Summary: An and Sakuno take a break from the rescue efforts to fluff and talk about the fish.
After coming back to Ryuhana and having dinner, Sakuno placed their dishes aside, having eaten in their room. The fish were swimming around their little plastic tanks, all looking rather confused, well, that was normal at least, before they were blobbing around. Turning back to her fiancee, Sakuno managed a smile to ask "How are you now, An?"
Eyes darker than even their normal stormy shade, An shrugged. This is just a nightmare, her mind kept screaming, it's not real. But it was, and she was losing her friends because of it. Their own faults though, for causing this mess then not caring. "Better, I guess. Still wanna use the brotherhood as lightning conductors though."
"Yeah... I don't-. Um, some of them are helping though, thankfully. Do you know where I put the fish-food?" Blinking, Sakuno glanced about, hoping to distract An, at least for a moment. When she didn't see it (even though she knew where it was, Sakura was guarding it on the desk), she reached out a hand for An's, squeezing it and not letting the slight static shock bother her, she was used to her ways, as tingly as they were.
"Fish-food? By the hamster cage?" Squeezing the hand back An leaned against Sakuno, so very tired now. Anger takes a lot out of a person after all, especially anger against people you trusted. "Things are just going to get worse, aren't they? Not just with humans, with them too." It wasn't easy to cope when your world came crashing down, after all.
"Oh, okay, must have missed that..." Sakuno really wasn't good at white lies, snuggling up to An, she used her spare hand to brush An's hair out of her face, untangling it gently as she went, they both had had a very rough day, An moreso because the people behind this, her friends seemed to be happy over all the carnage. "It will, sadly. But we're stronger then them, we have love, not hate so there will be peace one day, humans and mutants and animals will get along eventually and we'll be there to see it, I promise. ♥"
"Thank you, 'Kuno," It was nice to see someone who could still be idealistic in the face of all this, even nicer to know it was the person she was going to be with forever. It was just a pity she didn't think she could believe that herself anymore. "Maybe one day there will be peace," but not while we're alive, or even the next generation. Not that she'd tell Sakuno that bit, let her have her illusions for a little bit longer.
"No maybe about it, there's always peace after war." Squeezing her hand again, Sakuno took a deep breath, collecting herself then smiling, she was to be the strong one tonight, An seemed to be losing hope and that was a sad thought. "Come on, the fish needs us now. Who do you think wouldn't mind one of these little guys?"
"Mm," glancing at the fish An gave a small smile, nowhere close to her usual ones, but what was normal any more? "I don't know, has anyone asked about them yet?" Let's talk about the fish to make Sakuno happy. It was a pretty obvious ploy, Sakuno was never the best at hiding her intentions, but An appreciated it anyway. It really was time to calm down, she didn't want her powers going haywire and causing more damage after all.
"Not yet, I think most of them are still out helping but maybe Suki or um.... We can go ask around, maybe? Someone would want one or two, two for each or something, I don't want them to get lonely, maybe I should've gotten the rocks for them but I didn't think of that..." Finally pausing, Sakuno realised she was rambling, shaking her head at herself, she got up, moving to the fish without letting An's hand go.
"We can see if we can get some rocks when we go back, if you want? And we can ask people while we're out if they'd want a couple of fish. Maybe some of the people who're at the hospital right now?" Letting herself get tugged over to the fish tanks An watched them swim lazily, seemingly over their ordeal now. "And we can always keep a couple ourselves."
"That sounds like a good idea, they both do... We'll ask around tomorrow then who's left over, we'll keep. ♥ I think they can stay here for now though, we need rest then we can go back tomorrow, grandma said I could help some more at the mall with my power so um. But I have to go to the hospital in the morning... We can work it out tomorrow, you need your rest too with your powers so you can use them and everything." Sakuno was mostly musing aloud, gathering her thoughts for what can be done and offering distraction, tired now, it was beginning to not make as much sense but she wanted to keep An company until she too, was tired enough for sleep.
Dragging Sakuno down until they were sat on the floor, An nodded, wrapping an arm around Sakuno's shoulders and just holding her close. This comfort was what she needed right now, this knowledge that Sakuno was there, safe and whole and hopeful. "Yeah, tomorrow," too tired to bother fetching a blanket she wrapped them both in a little pocket of warm air, hoping it would hold until they woke up in a few hours. It wouldn't do to be too cold to help in the morning.
