Date: 7 Feb - Tuesday after the psi-kablewy when they both finally wake up.
Rating: G? Well.. onetinykiss, and a few rough words. :o
Summary: They wake, and there is discussion about the what/why/when of things. :D Ryoma has a cowpatch.

Ryoma's head hurt. It wasn't bad, really - just a dull, throbbing ache - but it still hurt and he was kind of cold. And stiff. And something was wrong, he realized, as he groped for consciousness, finally blinking in the deep yellow sunlight slanting in through the window.

It took him a moment to collect himself, still trying to think though the headache, but when he did, he realized a number of things at once. First, he was not at school - this was his bed, in his room at home. Second, he was not synched to Hanamura - there was no connection with her in the back of his mind, no telepathic shields keeping his power in check. Which must be why he was synched to Niou - who, as Ryoma realized third, was curled up - and actually asleep? - on the foot of his bed, with Karupin happily lying between his chest and Ryoma's feet.

He- Ryoma blinked again, and frowned. Fourth: there was no mind-link. He couldn't talk to Niou, couldn't feel him in the back of his mind the same way he couldn't feel Hanamura. Still frowning, he slipped out of the covers, crawling to the foot of the bed and shaking Niou's shoulder lightly. "Oy. Niou."

The phaser was completely dead to the world. It had been a risk he'd been willing to take (minimally calculated) – seeing as everybody and his uncle knew Ryoma could pass out for a week, no problem. He hadn't wanted to wait around so long feeling depressed. Waste of time.

It was the wanting that presented the danger, really – the last time he'd wanted to sleep like that, he'd woken up seven months older. Unlike natural hibernation, there was no externally dragging Niou back once his mind was on vacation.

Almost no. Ryoma had told him he had the ability to wake up exactly when he wanted, like setting an alarm on his internal clock. He couldn't do it yet, but had wondered, this time, if that could be set to an external feature. A voice, for example.

As it was, Ryoma's sleep-rough tones filtered down through the back of the phaser's mind, two words clunking around a little… that was his cue, wasn't it? That meant he'd have to wake up.

ugh.

The remains of that massive headache from last Friday were returning somewhat, forcing his brain back to functional. Tuesday, 4:29pm… He frowned slightly and stretched his neck a little, eyes still unopened.

Well, Niou had to've heard him - Ryoma didn't think the phaser would've moved at all if he'd been truly dead asleep. So at least he was waking up; Ryoma knelt beside him now and continued shaking, gently, to make sure Niou wouldn't just decide he wanted to go back to sleep. "C'mon, wake up."

As Niou stirred, Ryoma tried to figure out what was going on. Why were they here? And why wasn't he -

Oh. Shit. His father - now he remembered, finally awake enough to start thinking about more than just the immediate present. And he remembered fighting with his father, and getting fed up, and synching him...

And something bad had happened, he thought, hand stilling as he tried to piece together what must have transpired between then and now. But as hard as he tried, he couldn't think of any other reason for the present situation but one: they had kicked him out. Hanamura must've gotten fed up with him, and broken the link, and sent him home. But...

That didn't make any sense. Did it?

It didn't. Niou flopped over onto his back, legs dangling over the side of the bed. Even the winter sun was too bright, damn it. "…shit." He rubbed at his face, and squinted, eyeing Ryoma… who looked confused. Right. "What… is up." He had planned to say, What did you do? referring to the blinding light and goddamned painful headache and mindlink breakage and Shadow – but… that probably wasn't going to get them very far now.

"I don't know," was really the only answer Ryoma could supply, still frowning. In fact, he didn't know so much that he wasn't even sure where to start asking, assuming Niou had any answers at all in the first place. So he started with the most obvious. "You okay?" He supposed the longer Niou stayed asleep, the harder it probably was to wake up again. But then that begged the next question: "What day s'it?" The clock at the head of the bed said it was 4:31pm, but it didn't tell him the date. He shifted to sit cross-legged on the bed and rubbed one temple, trying to think, trying to come up with possible explanations, but he was coming up blank.

"…Tuesday," Niou said. He was more or less used to the concept of losing days, but having other people lose them at the same time was slightly creepy. He sat up, and pressed a hand to Ryoma's other temple. "You okay?"

Niou's hand felt warm. "Yeah, m'fine... I think." Ryoma was pretty sure he didn't look all that terrible, at least; and he just had a headache, but he was used to those. This one almost felt like a normal headache, anyway - the kind that might just go away with painkillers.

And he'd assume that it was only Tuesday of the next week, unless otherwise told. "You been sleeping there since last week?" And then he had to wonder - if that was the case, then where was his father, considering the last conversation they’d had? He'd been so adamant (without any stupid freaking reason at all) that Ryoma stop seeing Niou that he found it hard to believe that -

He suddenly had a very, very bad feeling. "… How bad was it?" He'd done something, all right, and now he felt like he didn't have the slightest clue what.

"You knocked Hanamura for six, for starters," Niou snerked, standing. He stretched. "Blinding flash of light. Electricity in the school went haywire <3" He'd killed a fair few random flickering lights and switchboards because they were pissing him off. "Something about ripping up the astral plane. All psionic powers are dead or defunct…"

Ryuzaki had seen it coming, but not its cause or timeframe. Niou grinned, but it wasn't much of a happy smile. "Nobody knows how long for, and you–" Cue poke in the side. "–are going to be stuck safely at home for that duration."

"Hanamura...?" Okay, so that was at least one reasonable explanation for waking up here that didn't involve being expelled. But now he was stuck here for no-one-knew how long? Ryoma scowled, trying to piece together what Niou had said with what he remembered. Electricity, fine, but ripping up the astral plane? Powers being dead?

"Shit." He made a mental note to never, ever even consider thinking about synching his father again. What he remembered wasn't pleasant, and he didn't want to repeat that experience. Ever. That couldn't be what his father felt like all the time... could it? Gold eyes tracked Niou's movements a moment before Ryoma asked, "Where's the old man?" And then... "Wait. So that means Shadow..." Oh, no. Okay, so Shadow hadn't been real, really, but...

"The kid grew random tentacles and dissolved into pixels," Niou said flatly, voice somewhat tired. Bunta's powers had also gone unstable. Everything'd happened at once – that, and the godawful light, which had nicely complemented the onset of a massive headache from, he assumed, breaking the mind link.

Nanjirou… Niou made a disgruntled noise and flopped back against the wall. "Your dad's not here, because you don't have shields. Your mum's hair went white with the both of you out of commission, y'know." Though it looked, amusingly enough, like she wasn't the only one…

"Oh," Ryoma said, feeling more than slightly sick at the mental picture that painted. It didn't sound pleasant at all, even for someone who'd really been an elaborate illusion all along. Niou didn't sound exactly thrilled about it, either. Trying not to think about that too much, he focused instead on the rest of what Niou'd said.

"Well, good," he said sourly of his father, much happier to have something else to occupy his thoughts even if this wasn't much better. "He deserved it." Though maybe his mother hadn't - it was probably bad enough with them both being gone, but if they'd both gone comatose, he imagined she would be more than a little worried. But he still wasn't sorry for that part of it - apparently extremely bad ramifications aside, his father could definitely do with a couple of days passed out cold after that.

But even through the bad mood, he noticed Niou was watching him with an amused little smile. He blinked, cocking his head, frowning in confusion now. "What's so funny?"

The phaser reached out to ruffle a hand through Ryoma's hair – one, because he could; two, just to make sure the patch of white strands wasn't dead and didn't fall out upon contact. It was about two inches, maybe three – towards the front and left (Ryoma's right)… amusing. Content that none of it was coming loose of its own accord, Niou sharply yanked a couple of strands free, holding them up for Ryoma's inspection, snickering. "Just like a cow <3"

"Ow!" Ryoma winced, feeling his scalp tingle with a tiny half-phase, but apparently not in time to prevent Niou from pulling a couple of hairs. "What'd you -" Wait. He actually looked, and realized the hair Niou was holding up was white. "Eh?" He glanced up, trying to see, reaching up to try and hold up the piece of hair Niou'd yanked it from; it didn't work - he couldn't tell, but his bangs at least were black. What the hell had happened? "Izzat the only spot?" Amused though Niou was, Ryoma didn't exactly want to look like a cow. Just great, now his father was giving him white hair.

The phaser chuckled. "It's the only spot," he affirmed. Even so, it was funny… though that made him sober a little. Inwardly. A grin popped onto his face as he replaced the loose hairs where they belonged on Ryoma's head, as if it were possible to reattach them
thus. "What'd you do to give yourself such bad stress-hair anyway?" The astral plane thing was big, he knew – as well as the fact it'd been Ryoma. He was still after the cause and its why, though.

"Didn't really do anything," Ryoma said - and it was mostly the truth, from what he could remember. He remembered arguing with his dad all too well, and he remembered synching him - but everything after that was kind of fuzzy. It had hurt, and he'd tried to get rid of the power that had been feeding off him - but that was really all he remembered. He was pretty sure that was all there was to it, though.

"Synched Dad," he said after a minute. "He was being an ass. We were arguing an' he wouldn't let me leave."

Suddenly he wasn't sure that the reason (because there really hadn't been much of one) outweighed the apparent consequences. "So psionics just don't work." It was more of a comment than a question, as he tried to think of what he could have done that would have resulted in that. He shook his head. "Didn't have a choice. His power was gonna... I dunno. There was too much." Way, way too much, for any human to handle. Not if they wanted anything of themself to be left in the end.

Niou chuckled again, but it was a little less mirthless again than before. "Bet he nearly died breaking his powers in, way back when <3" he commented of Nanjirou. That was as good a compliment or vocal admission of superiority the old man was probably ever going to get out of him. Pity the psionics weren't working for him to hear it either, over the kilometres that separated them. Really.

Ryoma was forced to agree. "Something like that." But then, if he were one to worry about his father he'd be more worried about his future. He'd probably had one hell of a time reigning his powers in when he was younger, but if he hadn't yet reached their full potential... Ryoma had to wonder if his father really had that much power, or if he only had the potential to hold that much power. Either way, he didn't like the idea.

But he wasn't one to worry very much about his father at this point in time. Though speaking of... "Wonder if Mom's home." He was kind of hungry; he cast a glance at Niou, wondering if the phaser might actually be hungry himself after sleeping for a few days. "You hungry?" He opened his door and stuck his head out, trying to determine if anyone else was home.

Nobody was – and Mrs. Echizen had left a note saying so. But it wasn't as if they couldn't cook.

Okay, so they couldn't cook (or Niou couldn't), but it wasn't as if there was no processed food <3 He poked around in the pantry for some chips or something. "Yeah, maybe a little…" But more than that, he really couldn't afford to lose any more weight for his height, else he'd end up looking more dead than he already did.

Presently, he figured the question should be asked: "…what were you arguing about?"

Ryoma went for the bread, figuring they could at least have sandwiches. There was lunchmeat and cheese in the fridge, so he threw two turkey sandwiches together. Pulling glasses from the cabinet overhead (it was still weird not to have to stand on tiptoe to reach them), he searched the fridge again for something to drink.

"He said I wasn't allowed to see you anymore and I said no," he stated simply, pulling the water pitcher out with a little more force than he'd meant. Okay, so maybe it seemed like a stupid reason to synch his father now, but that didn't mean he had the right to tell Ryoma who we was and wasn't to see. Ryoma wasn't twelve anymore. And he wasn't going to listen to his father on this one.

He poured water for both of them, careful not to knock anything over. Shit, it was making him angry all over again. He sighed, shoving the water back in the fridge. No use getting mad again now. His father wasn't here, and if he said the same thing the next time Ryoma saw him, it wasn't as though the answer was going to change.

…that was it, was it? Still? Niou couldn't help but be amused. He ran his hands down Ryoma's arms from behind as the fridge door slammed shut with perhaps a bit too much force. He gave the other a small squeeze around the waist. "You're such a teenager <3" – thought he knew better, could do better (fact that was usually true entirely notwithstanding)… but even as he said it, the thought presented itself that he'd have to prove Nanjirou wrong. Somehow.

Ryoma took a deep breath, holding it a few seconds before letting it go as his lips curved into a wry grin. "Oh, because you're not? You have another year t'go b'fore you're twenty." But all right - he felt a little better. He'd just deal with his father later. Much later. And his mother liked Niou - so she'd be on his side too. He leaned back a little, taking advantage of the fact that they were both the same temperature.

"Didn't mean to make a big deal outta it like that though," he said finally, torn between feeling justified and feeling just plain stupid. "Didn't think it'd rip up the astral plane or whatever - or kill Shadow." He'd been getting kind of used to the kid. Maybe. Or at least hadn't wanted him to disappear like that.

"… <3" Niou grinned, and nuzzled Ryoma's hair (right behind the white patch~). "He wasn't real anyway." Even if he'd been the most adorable and fun-loving droolbag to ever crawl the earth. Niou turned back to their sandwiches and eyed them with a little apprehension. "Yum~"

Not for the first time, but probably not for the last, Ryoma was glad Shadow hadn't been technically alive. Watching Niou eye their sandwiches less-than-fondly, he picked up the plates and set them on the table, followed by the water. "Try to contain your excitement," he said sarcastically, leading Niou over to the table before plopping down into one chair and eyeing the sandwiches himself.

... And realized he wasn't as hungry as he thought he'd been, nor did he really want to eat. He frowned - then glanced up, realizing it was probably Niou's fault. Or at least his metabolism's. "M'gonna lose weight an' Mom's gonna kill me," he muttered; nonetheless, he picked up the sandwich and took a bite. "F'I gotta eat then so do you."

"Yeah, yeah~" Niou chuckled, settling onto an armrest. Eating was a chore, in his books. Which wasn't good when one rarely got hungry. Leaning over, he took a bite out of the back of the sandwich in Ryoma's hands, winking. "Thanks <3"

Ryoma grinned a little, mood definitely lightened. "Well, it's this, or you could wait 'till Mom comes home an' declares we're both too skinny an' tries to cook us a three course meal." Though she might anyway, given they'd both been asleep for something like four days. It was going to be hard to explain to her that neither of them really wanted to eat all that much - at Christmas at least he'd been hungry enough to cover for most of Niou's not eating. He wondered now if the two of them would be able to finish both sandwiches, even between them. "You gonna eat yours at all, or just mine?" he asked, in a tone of voice that said he didn't much mind, either way

"Half of each," Niou snickered. Well, that would only be fair, after all – "Though it could be worth the scold for your mum's cooking <3" Mrs. Echizen was Wonderwoman, he'd long since decided, and possibly the best female influence (or, at the very least, the most normal) within a hundred miles of Ryuhana.

Ryoma figured he could maybe manage the other half of each, then. "She’d prolly be glad to hear you say that." He agreed, though - his mother's cooking was much, much better than anything he got at school, even if she liked to make American food more often than Japanese.

Another bite. "But I really hafta stay here until everything's okay again?" Well, it did make sense. He couldn't shield himself without Hanamura - if he tried to go back to school, things would get very unpleasant before he even made it to the dorms. He was just glad none of his neighbors were mutants. He sighed. "You can't stay here that long, though." It wasn't quite a question - he figured it was probably pretty obvious. Niou had classes at the university and a job at Ryuhana. And he'd already missed a couple of days.

"Mm~" Niou said, humming dismissively. He didn't care much for either – the money was handy, but nonessential; he'd catch up on the classes overnight. "You won't die <3 Your cat's here." Leaning over, he licked across Ryoma's lips, crumbs nonexistent and not made up. Ryoma seemed to come under some form of house arrest quite often. Though Niou knew the brat'd grown up isolated anyway – at school, and as an only child, one would think he ought to be used to it – that was precisely what he wanted to avoid in leaving. "We'll come visit."

Ryoma leaned forward to return the soft kiss, knowing he'd been right - he was going to be stuck here, and probably alone most of the time except for Karupin. Well, he'd suffered worse. It wasn't as though he didn't have things he could be doing, he guessed.

"'We'?" he echoed, eyeing Niou with a wry grin as he pulled back with a brief lick at the other's nose. "M'sure it'll be exciting, then." He eyed the last few bites of his sandwich before setting it down on the plate, not hungry anymore. It'd wear off when Niou left eventually and then he was sure he'd eat plenty. "I wanna shower or something." He hadn't had one in at least five days; he stood, putting the plate and mostly-eaten sandwich on the counter. "You wanna stay at least 'till Mom gets home?"

Why not? "But of course," Niou chuckled, shooing Ryoma off to the bathroom. "Can't leave the little prince unattended, after all <3" As a responsible near-adult, he would stay until Mrs. Echizen got back so she wouldn't have to worry about her only son.

Meanwhile, he would plan the party <3

"Well at least I can't exactly phase the house to death," Ryoma shot over his shoulder, thoroughly planning on staying out of the way of anyone with mildly destructive powers for as long as it took. He rather liked his house the way it was - standing. And he was more than used to being synched with Niou's powers by now.

At least he'd have company until his mother got home.

::seconds~:: Someday! :D;; When he's not going to threaten to send Ryo out of the country~<3

Actually, when that fiasco is over, Ryoma would like to have a talk with his father. About not letting his power eat him alive. <3 Maybe at the end of the month. ^_^

WELL. :x

He can't really help the powers thing. That's how Nanji will end up kicking the bucket.

Aw. But... preventative measures! It's like a chrinic health problem - there are things you can do to prolong your life and all, right? :D;;

If you could, let me know sometime when you plan on having him wake up and/or make more threats. XD;
