Summary: A rather grumpy Ryoma has to go to medlab, and runs into Yukimura while he's there.

It was really too bad Sakuno had to go to class, Ryoma thought, as the doctors shooed him out of the examination room and told him to wait for a while. They looked just as confused as he felt - but really, no matter what their insistence, there was something kicking him from the inside. And it was distinctly unpleasant.

The medlab, strangely enough, was not really well-designed for sitting and waiting. Probably because the student body was small enough that no one really had to wait for medical attention. The only chair he could find was sitting right outside the room he used to stay in - and there was someone in it now, though he didn't recognize the power. They felt sick, though - their signature was weak, diluted. Whatever - not his concern, he thought, dropping into the chair beside the doorway.

... a guest. Another someone to talk to. There weren't many of those in medlab. Yukimura eased himself out of the bed (not that he was confined to it, but it was the most comfortable piece of furniture in his tiny room), and peered through the curtain separating himself from the makeshift waiting room.

The visitor was young, with short black hair that looked a little green in this light, and very, very pregnant. Seiichi couldn't recall having seen her before. "Well," he said, leaning slightly on the wall, "I don't believe we've met."

... Oh, shit. Whoever it was wanted to talk to him. Ryoma glanced up, taking in the thin frame, pale skin, dark hair. Strange eyes. He couldn't tell if...

And put two and two together. "You're Yukimura," he said, even as he really wished they would have let him stay in the examination room. He had no desire to be seen by anyone else - Sakuno had been nice about it, at least, but still - but it was apparently already too late for that. And here, even, was the possible reason he was like this in the first place -

Though... no. It wasn't. Because he hadn't synched this person before. Not even accidentally, or he'd know. So there went Hanamura's theory, and he was right back to wondering how the hell Bunta might had managed to pull this one off.

"Ah, so they have told people I'm back here," Yukimura said, laughing. He was beginning to worry they'd forget about him again, just the same as he'd been forgotten at the Brotherhood and at the lab before that. He waved a pale hand in front of the boy's -- because it was a boy, obvious pregnancy notwithstanding -- eyes, calling attention back to himself. And he settled himself on the floor, half-kneeling in front of the thoroughly occupied chair. "I suppose I don't have to ask why you're here," he said, "but I'd guess that" -- with a finger pointed at the guest's bulging abdomen -- "is part of your mutation?"

"Actually, no," Ryoma replied, eyeing Yukimura warily as he knelt on the floor, apparently not going anywhere for the moment. "Hanamura thought it was yours, but it's not." He sighed - whoever's it was, he wanted it to go away. And if he hadn't synched anyone, then what the hell was it? He shifted uncomfortably in the plastic chair.

"Mine?" Seiichi echoed. It was true what they'd told him -- that some aspect of his mutation directly affected his reproductive system -- but he hadn't mentioned that to anyone else, and besides, how was his mutation going to get into another student?

Unless ... "Oh -- you're Echizen," he said, realisation dawning. "The one who can borrow other powers. Did you -- ah -- maybe someone else's, then?"

"Yeah, m'Echizen," Ryoma confirmed unhappily - at the moment he rather wished he wasn't. He shook his head. "S'not anyone else's powers either - an' it's not me. Think it's maybe Bunta's fault, but he won't admit to anything." Sighing, he shifted again.

"So what're you here for, then?" he asked, wishing very much to turn the conversation away from himself. "You feel sick." There was no way he could tell what was wrong without synching the other - but he wasn't a doctor and it wasn't his job. They probably already knew, and if they'd needed him he was sure someone would've asked when he'd gotten back, so there was no need for him to try to do anything. He was still curious, though - all Hanamura had told him was that Yukimura's reproductive system had changed, and might be responsible for Ryoma's current predicament. He knew what the other did, in a broad sense, but not why he would be sick. Though maybe the overcast skies outside had something to do with it, if Yukimura was tied to plant life...

Yukimura's amusement turned cloudy. "So you can tell?" he asked, moderately intrigued. He supposed there was something more to the boy's power than just borrowing, then, if he was speaking like a telepath.

He wondered for a moment how best to describe just why he was being detained in the medical lab when he didn't even understand the complexities himself. "For observation," he explained with a shrug. "I think they're afraid I'll wither if I spend too much time out there." He indicated the window with a tilt of his head. The slate-grey sky certainly looked unkind.

Ryoma shrugged. "Yeah, but only 'cause your power feels weak." He studied the other, but a visual inspection wouldn't tell him nearly as much as a run-through with his powers. Which he did not want to do at the moment. "M'sure there's some way around it - not everything dies in the winter. You still eat?" That would probably make a big difference, really. And he hadn't heard anything about Yukimura not eating, so he'd probably be fine even if he didn't feel like he was in top condition.

A state which Ryoma could sympathize with, at the moment. "They gonna let you out soon? Sucks having to stay down here." He knew that firsthand.

"It does," Yukimura agreed with a sigh, uncurling on the floor to stretch his legs momentarily. "I suppose I'll be let out when they've decided I'm no longer in danger. But you know, I don't think they've considered the possibility that leaving me alone in here is doing more harm than good." It certainly had been the case at any of the other places he'd been kept for 'observation'. "They know what's 'wrong' with me, after all."

Another frustrated sigh, and he settled against the wall. "I don't eat," he said. "Much." He didn't talk about how he missed it, or about what happened if he did try to eat -- it wasn't pleasant. "I was living on the third floor, and I hear a rumor about a greenhouse -- wouldn't that be nice, if it were true! -- and An-chan (the weather girl, I'm sure you know her) said she'd do what she could to help, but she had headaches just keeping a single plant content." He glanced up at Echizen (what was his first name? Ryou?). "I don't see why I couldn't just stay in my dorm. There wasn't anything wrong with it."

"They don't know what they're talking about half the time here," Ryoma said flatly. "Last time I was in here they had me on 24-hour monitoring an' it was pretty obvious what was wrong with me." He had to admit, the doctors here often seemed much more interested in exploring the problem, rather than fixing it. He could see how that might be interesting for them, but it rarely made any of the students any happier.

"So that's why they put you on the third floor." More sunlight in the corner rooms - it made sense. "Hn," he said, thinking now. He hadn't really ever synched An properly, even in training, but... "Could try instead of An, but it'd only be for a little while." He sighed, not even sure why he was offering. But he had nothing to do while he was... like this, anyway. Though it felt like he was going to explode (or something) if this didn't... solve itself. And soon.

Ugh. He didn't want to think about that.

Yukimura wasn't sure what the difference would be. Anything Echizen did would surely have the same effect as An's attempts. Unless he was suggesting that the two of them trade off in tending to him ... "Would you?" he asked. "I'd really like any reprieve from this -- as you said, being stuck down here isn't any fun. It wouldn't have to be long, either, just enough to get me back up to my room; there's a heat lamp up there, and better light, and I think if we could convince them that I won't perish on the way back it just might work."

"... Yeah." Looked like Ryoma would be helping out after all. Well, he'd been the one to suggest it in the first place, he supposed. "It's a five-minute walk, what do they think's gonna happen?" Apparently the doctors here were even crazier than they had been last time.

"Not gonna do it like this, though," he said - he was going straight back to his room when they were done here. Yukimura could last another few days down here, until this whole ordeal with Ryoma was over. Because given the way he felt (and what Fuji seemed to think)... it would be over soon. "I c'n talk to her when I'm better though. C'n do a better job than she can." Supposedly - though it would likely cost him a headache in control as well. But he really did think it had to be worth getting Yukimura out of this place. He seemed nice enough, at least. And he hadn't made fun of Ryoma's... condition. That earned him points.

"Thank you," Yukimura said, and didn't call Echizen on his claim of supremacy in power control. It would remain to be seen, after all. "Do you think you'll be ... better ... sometime soon?" He was very anxious to get out of here, with or without a doctor's consent.

"Better be better soon." Ryoma did not want to take much more of this. Not that he really knew anything about how this was supposed to work, but there had to be a reasonable limit... Of course, as far as he was aware, these things normally took nine months. But nothing about this was normal, so who knew, in the end? Besides, if this threatened to take nine months, he'd kill himself before then.

Just then, one of the two doctors who'd examined him approached, a strange look on his face. "Echizen-kun, we have the results of your tests..." He looked pretty thoroughly confused. Just great, Ryoma thought, shifting again to get up. He glanced back at Yukimura. "I'll let you know when I c'n help," he said.

"Please do," Yukimura said, and stood, offering a slight bow to both Echizen and the doctors. "And it was very nice to meet you. I hope next time will be under better circumstances." He turned to slink back into his makeshift room, behind the curtain, but paused before pulling it aside. "Good luck," Seiichi added, then returned to his bed.

Freedom! And soon, at that! What a lovely idea, he thought.
