LOG - Yukimura, Tomoka, Kirihara
Nov. 22nd, 2005 01:11 pmDate: Backdated to 15th November, after the new Ryuhana squads were announced.
Characters: Akaya Kirihara, Tomoka Osakada, Seiichi Yukimura.
Rating: PG/PG-13 for light swearing and allusions to violence.
Summary: The students of Ryuhana have just been sorted in different team squads. Two boys and a girl decide to talk and see who they are and what they can do...
Whistling a pop tune under her breath, Tomoka got out of the girls bathroom in the first floor, her hands still kinda cold after washing them. Well, she has in quite high spirits today, since the training squads had been modified and she was quite looking forward to the upcoming lessons. Telling truths, she had some reservations about Nanjiroh since she had only talked to him once or twice, and had mostly seen the man taking care of the grounds - but, if her memory served her right, he was the one who easily "captured" Oshitari from the Brotherhood. So, a man like that shouldn't be fully underestimated... even if he hads the outlook of a perverted monk.
Hmmm... the members of her team were Akaya Kirihara, Seiichi Yukimura, Bunta Marui and Eiji Kikumaru. She had left a message for them in her journal, and currently the only ones who had replied were Yukimura and Kirihara. Since Eiji was most likely helping Oishi and Marui still didn't fully look okay after his latest black-out, Tomoka decided place to put too much strain on them. On the other hand, Kirihara didn't sound too thrilled with the whole new squad stuff... and Tomoka thought she knew the reason why. Not that she'd tell anybody about it, though.
But Yukimura... She had barely seen the youth once since he arrived to Ryuhana, and barely knew anything about him other than the fact that he looked frail for someone his age and kinda reminded her of the plants and flowers in the shop she worked part-time at. He seemed to be nice, though, and she was eager to know more about him. They'd need it, anyway; if they were going to team-work and all, they'd better know eveything they could from each other.
Few minutes later, Tomoka came into the rec room. She stared around looking for any signals telling her of the presence of any of her four teammates...
Akaya supposed he would always wake up late if he stayed over at Yamato's. Which was not always a bad thing, as he got more sleep this way, but when he had classes in the morning... damn it, he barely made it today. One thing that had to be said, the morning had been interesting. He used the man as a pillow and bed again, Yamato had his hand up the boy's back, under his shirt, and Luis claimed the small of Kirihara's back as her own. This was how the three of them woke up.
In great hurry, Akaya had to collect his things, tripping over stuff on his way and ran up to his room, to shower and change into the school uniform. "Barely" didn't mean that he was late of course, but it was a close call.
And now he was tired... these few hours (that usually would be enough) were too little. After a whole day of throwing up (Sunday), then a harsh training on Monday, and a late evening out. And he was annoyed as well... Not only Niou had stuck to the idea of Kirihara not being a male, but also that girl from his squad was scolding him... damn her. What was her name again? Osakada? Yeah, that was the girl who saw him in Yamato's room few weeks back.
He was not going there just yet, it was a lunch break and he was hungry and thirsty (the only indication that he was drinking yesterday). Let them wait, it was not like they couldn't meet any other day, anyway.
A youth with long blue hair and a slender frame. Another with cat ears and a tail. A tall redhead who liked to dress up as a girl. And a certain teenager with messy black hair.
Ten minutes after her arrival to the room, no sight of any of them. Ten minutes more, and she was going to scream in frustration.
Yeah, she was the youngest of the group and was most likely in no position of scolding them. But there she was, waiting for them while reading her book on photonic energy. The lunch break would be soon over and her teammates were simply all... well, POOF. Yamato had warned her that Kirihara'd be most likely late, but she had expected the others to be a li'l more punctual.
For the nth time, Tomoka wondered if pushing herself and the boys like that was okay. And for the nth time, the answer was I don't know. She was always up for action, and this was the perfect time to see what they could do to become stronger. But on the other hand, the last time she tried to fully push herself, she almost collapsed out of pure physical fatigue. Either one extreme or the other... with Tomoka Osakada, you could never have a medium.
Yukimura knew that he'd agreed to meet with Tomoka-san over the lunch break between academic classes and afternoon training, and had assumed (perhaps wrongly?) that she would want to eat during the meeting as well. There had been no trace of her in the school cafeteria, and after some time waiting, he decided to look for her elsewhere.
The library also yielded no result, but his search of the dormitory was far more successful: the girl in question (it had to be her) sat quietly steaming in one of the plush rec room chairs. Ah -- a temper. He could have surmised as much from the oscillations in her mood in journal comments.
With a soft smile, he approached. "I'm sorry," he said calmly. "I didn't realise we were meeting here. Forgive me for misunderstanding?"
Huh? That sweet, yet still boyish voice wasn't familiar to her...
Tomoka stood up from the chair, then turned and (thank whoever was taking care of her above) saw a blue-haired young man around her age. Just like in his user pic, he looked kinda frail, and Tomoka could only wonder what was his own bitter fairy tale (oh, she had that phrase stuck in her head after the meeting with Wakato-kun) like. But she would ask him later; she didn't want to mess up with Yukimura's mind upon barely meeting him.
"I ate and immediately came in here," she told him, and with a small wink she produced some rainbow-colored sparkles to welcome him, "so I'm the one who should be apologizing in the first place...," Tomoka briefly stopped, then smiled more openly, "Yukimura-kun. And no -san, eh, I'm either Tomoka-chan or Tomo-chan for the friends."
Coffee at the moment would be nice, especially if he was going to use his powers during the "meeting". But no, coffee was not Akaya's friend, even if he loved it, so he had to put up with some sugar only. He ate outside, like always, even if it was freezing.
Well now that he was finished, he could go and meet the other two for... whatever the girl came up with. He had no idea where they were supposed to meet, though. And first went to search in cafeteria (unknown to him, just like Yukimura did), seeing neither of the two there, he went to another place that came to his mind, which was the rec room. (Library was never an option, even if they were meeting there... Kirihara just wouldn't join them. Libraries were too silent for his mental health.)
Yes, that was the right choice. There was both Osakada and Yukimura there, engaged in a small talk. "Yo," Akaya greeted shortly and plopped down on one of the sofas. Damn, he wanted nothing more than just curl up now and sleep.
"Hello, Akaya-san," Yukimura greeted. The poor boy looked tired -- unusual, he thought; hadn't he mentioned something earlier about not typically running out of energy? He made a mental note to ask him about it later, then turned to Tomoka. "You had some ideas that you wanted to share with us?" he asked. "Or did you want to see if we could figure something out among ourselves, first?"
He paused, considering. The other two hadn't yet shown up, but they hadn't responded to Tomoka's journal entry, either. The group members that were here could always fill the others in later -- provided anything they discussed wouldn't be automatically overruled by Echizen-sensei. Of course, Yukimura thought with a private smile, there were five of them, and one of him, and if he proved useless, they were fully capable of carrying on without him.
Tomoka wasn't known as a great atrategist, honestly. She was, as very appropiately pointed out by An-chan, the type of person who would first act and then think. If she wanted to be helpful and protect her peers, she'd have to change that part of her that always brought trouble.
"Hmmm..., " she said thoughtfully. "We have barely spoken to each other if not through our journals, and I've barely trained with you people except for Kirihara-kun, since we were both in the Energy class before the squads were re-organized. So, if we wanna work out as a team, we should first know what kind of exact powers we have, as well as their pro and contras, and how we could learn to use them in synch. You know, our lives could depend on that at one moment or another."
She remarked her point with a very brief light flash. Judging from Kirihara's personality, the Ace of the group wasn't that much of a team player, and she had some troubles with teamwork, herself... and that would have to go.
Akaya twitched slightly at the use of "-san" at the end of his name. "No '-san' necessary Yukimura-kun. Really, I'm not old, duh." Then turning to the girl, he added, "I can start, if you don't mind." Well, fighting the Osakada wouldn't do any good, so better go with it, and end the meeting as soon as possible. "Basically I blow stuff up. Everything, except for living beings." He shrugged, pausing for a moment before continuing, "In more detail, my body's filled with some kind of energy that can blast inanimate objects. 's why I don't sleep much, have hard time focusing and such... or so I was told."
A yawn interrupted him, oops. Kirihara sent a slight glare at his two teammates, "What? Had a bad Sunday, harsh training on Monday, and went to sleep late." He was aware that just a second ago he said he didn't sleep much, but... "I get tired too, yanno."
"Well," Yukimura began, shifting a little. He wasn't uncomfortable with his power, but he'd never been directly asked about it in a situation where he could give a truly honest response. Hanamura-sensei had ordered him to the medical lab to determine what he did; prior to this, he'd always been told to lie and say he was sick.
That rarely worked, of course. "I work with plants." It was the most basic way of describing his talent; the lab had given him back a laundry list of capabilities he had that could be attributed to his mutation. "Hear them, feel them; they listen to me ... ah ... and according to the lab, I'm one of them, as well." He offered a small smile, moderately pleased with this information now that he could speak about it freely.
As promised to Yamato-sempai, Tomoka let Kirihara's fatigue pass. She wasn't exactly thrilled with it, but whatever; she wasn't in a position to protest, eh, considering her own fatigue some days ago. Also, she was very intrested in what Yukimura had to say...
"Then, I'm the one who follows," she said, when the blue-haired man was done. "The sparkles I greeted Yukimura-kun with and flash lights I used some minutes ago are part of my powers, you see... My body absorbs sound and released it as anything light, from harmless parkles to laser beams or photon pulses. You could say I'm a walking light show."
Kirihara watched the other boy with half-closed eyelids. Well, that was interesting. Though he seriously wondered how it was useful. "That's why you were so thrilled about the well lit room, huh? What about the winter then?" He asked, turning his attention to the girl, listening.
"That remains to be seen," Yukimura remarked, a bit wry. "I ... don't care to remember much of last winter." And didn't actually remember about half of it, thanks to his powers leaving him all but debilitated while the earth hibernated. He would leave it at that for now, and allowed Tomoka to continue.
She sighed. "I don't have much info about Eiji-chan other than him being a cat metamorph with all that it implies, and Marui-kun's power involving illusions and his dreams." She avoided the last part as much as she could, not wanting to allude too much to the redhead who was more an more mentally unstable as time passed. "So, we shall stick to ourselves until they're here... and this makes us a rather aggressive-skill oriented team, with Yukimura-kun having a more defensive and psionic power. While this info should be enough for us and Echizen-sensei by now, I'm sure we could get more out of it... like possible strategics and plans. What do you think, eh?"
Tomoka felt weird, talking in such an "adult" manner. And judging by the faces of her friends, it showed.
He slipped off his shoes and pulled his knees up to his chest, curling slightly, "We're still in training, yanno. I'm sure more stuff will come up... about our powers and such. So probably all strategics we make up now will change a lot in future. But oh well." Thinking a bit more, he added on, "My energy allows me to be a bit faster and more agile than average, as well... depends on who we're fighting or what we need to do, I can be in a hand-to-hand combat, as well as attack from long distances." With that he pulled out a box of playing cards he got used to carry around everywhere he went, and put it on a table. "One might think this shit's useless. But once 'charged' it's lethal... and I never miss." Akaya smirked.
Akaya's power seemed like the sort that would do far more harm than good, especially if he was provoked. "Not useless," he commented, "just dangerous." It wasn't really a warning.
"I don't know how 'useful' I might be in a combat situation," Seiichi admitted. "Frankly, between the other school and this one, all I've heard anyone talk about is fighting one another. And it won't accomplish anything." The reason he'd come here was that he thought it would be more tolerant -- that's what Hanamura-sensei had said when he spoke with her. But why were the students not acting in accordance with that philosophy? "Now, if we can focus our training on putting our powers to use in everyday situations, I think that's far more productive."
Tomoka untied her long brown hair, letting it loose over her shoulders and back. Yukimura had a point, but...
"Yukimura-kun," she started. "I can see the point you're bringing up. I'm not also exactly the type who enjoys fighting, unless I'm very pissed off... but this is reality. We all wish we could live peacefully, and that's okay... but you see, all of us are different, and some tend to think they're so much better, than they can go and impose their ideas on the rest.
She released some small pink and blue sparkles, and allowed them to dance in her palm as she continued. "I don't want anybody else to high-and-mightily decide what *I* want to do with my life. I have a voice, and I want people to at least hear me and know what's in my mind. I'll do it peacefully and calmly, but it doesn't mean I won't be able to defend my ideas when someone tries to force me to think like him or her."
Now, that was interesting. Akaya actually could fully agree with Osakada with this. "My point exactly." He said with a laugh. Really, he didn't care whether it was human or mutant, no one had the right to force him to live differently that how he wanted.
Then he remembered again what Yukimura said, "Unfortunately, my power is useless in everyday situations. Unless..." he snerked, "unless demolishing ruins can be considered an everyday thing..."
"And I don't really want to fight anyone, but I'm well aware we won't have the choice in the end... humans hate us, Brotherhood hates us... I'm not going to just lie and let them beat me when it comes down to it." He pulled one card from the deck - Ace of clubs - heh, small smile came to his lips, "and don't misunderstand. We might be talking about fighting, but only when provoked, we don't go on killing sprees at random."
"I see," Yukimura chuckled. Tomoka had to be given points for effort, if nothing else, but she was not going to be taking charge of this group as long as Seiichi was here. And Akaya ... well. He could deal with Akaya. "Don't worry," he said, sweet as honey, with a hope to draw their points of view together cohesively. "Nobody's going to be making any decisions for you while you're here. And," he added, "that goes for this group, too. We're in this together, after all.
"So," he continued, "the absolutely last people that we'll be fighting will be each other. There's no need to be defensive." They were still raw, he thought, but he could work with them. It wasn't even a matter of trying to calm either of them down; rather, it was getting all of them to work in concert. That in itself would be a challenge ... perhaps the key was compromise.
There was a sort of subtle challenge in Yukimura's words, Tomoka sensed. Maybe the older youth had some ideas of his own that he was *not* exactly sharing? Uhm, possibly. But Tomoka knew she wasn't the best at in-fighting, so she decided to let it alone by now. And he had such a big point about not fighting each other, that openly jumping against him for a single phrase and even *before training itself* wasn't a good idea, as well as very unjust.
She slowly tied her hair, but did so in a half ponytail a la Minako Aino/Venus from Sailormoon (no way she'd try doing the two ponytails without a mirror in front of her). "Okay, Yukimura-kun. Before we see how to exactly work as a team, no use discussing. And remember - no matter what we think, it's almost for sure that Echizen-sensei will be the one who'll decide if we fight or not. In a sense, that's why I asked you guys to come here: we should know who'll be working with, remember that..."
Eyeing his two teammates, Akaya tried very badly to keep himself from falling asleep. He yawned before saying, "So... what are we doing now?" Words slightly slurred.
He tried, he really did... but staying focused when your body wanted nothing more than just sleep was almost impossible in his case. Wait... it was completely impossible. Which was why, he was falling sleep now. Curled up on the sofa, face hidden in his knees.
"Huh? Kiri...?"
Tomoka turned towards the couch he was sitting in. And was greeted by the sight of a deeply-asleep youth, curled up on the sofa.
Hands on her hips, she sighed. "Huh, what's up with this guy...?" She had promised Yamato to be patient, yeah, but this was too much awell as horribly rude to both her and Yukimura. He could've just told her he was tired or sick through journals, then!
So, Tomoka slowly walked up at Kirihara, ready to wake him up with a blinding flash...
"Let him sleep," Yukimura interjected quietly. "We'll talk to him during class. There isn't much more to be said right now anyway." Deeply blue eyes carried the weight of the unspoken force behind his calm words. There wasn't much that could be said between the two of them, not when Tomoka had it in her mind that she would be the one leading the group.
Tomoka considered Yukimura's words, and the hand that she had raised slowly went down. No use wasting her energy when she didn't have her CD-player, the sound source vital for her powers, by her very side. And again, the girl had felt there was something about this guy... since Kirihara-kun was out, she would rather let him sleep by now and focuse on both training and Yukimura.
"Okay, then," she murmured. "I won't be held responsible if he misses training and Echizen-sensei gets upset, though... So, we better be going, Yukimura-kun. Maybe Marui-kun and Eiji-chan will catch up with us sooner or later".
She looked at the sleeping Kirihara for a last time, and few seconds later she and Yukimura left the rec room. It wouldn't be the best way to start their training with Nanjiroh Echizen, but they didn't have any time left to think of it.

Date: 2005-11-22 06:23 pm (UTC)I'm still amused every time I see Yuki referred to as a boy. XD; Of course, Tomoka doesn't know (nobody does) it isn't something Yuki's keen on sharing anyway.
(And yes, this on the edge of winter.)

... Actually, Yuki might not care. And that would be bad. Um.
XD!

Date: 2005-11-22 10:59 pm (UTC)And after the obvious initial shock, Tomoka wouldn't care; as long as Yukimura's her friend and teammate, she'd flash the living crap out of whover looked at him/her/whatever wrong. "Yukimura is Yukimura! That's all you need to know!". XD
