Summary: Yukimura visits Ryuhana; Kirihara gives him the tour.
It hadn't taken Yukimura very long to figure out how to sneak out of the campus -- estate, really -- they called the Brotherhood. (He still wasn't even sure if that was the name of the school (though it didn't look like any school he was familiar with) or the organization that it housed, but that was sort of beside the point, wasn't it?) Sneaking back in didn't seem to be a problem, either, since the security system seemed to recognize him. How friendly -- it knew he belonged here!
After his first and second excursions, exploring the areas immediately surrounding the main buildings and the neighborhood, he decided it was time to take a look at that other school he'd heard mentioned. He'd already been given directions, so he hoped it wouldn't be too hard to find.
It was chilly, but the sun was shining, so he decided to walk. Walking was better than taking a crowded bus, anyway; it would be cramped, and people would stare at his eyes. He didn't like that. This way he could watch everything, and -- of course -- absorb the sunlight much easier. When he got to the other school, though -- he could tell what it was from the big sign with the school crest outside; dragon + flower = Ryuhana -- the gates were locked and certainly did not recognize him.
Well, Akaya's job with the remains of the classes building was done. There was nothing more that needed to be blasted, which simply meant that he wouldn't get much sleep anymore. He was restless, a bit too much for his own sanity, and probably for the people's around as well. Another thing was that... some people got wrong ideas about him and his senpai. Just what the hell made them think this way, anyway?
Whatever. Kirihara needed some fresh air, and exercise to not blow his whole room up. That would not be funny, no, not at all. That's how the boy found himself near the school gates, making up his mind to go to the city first, contact lenses in place (he did not enjoy people staring).
He almost missed the person standing there, looking with interest at the school, or rather the school gates. "Hello," he greeted uncertainly, "need any help?" Not like Akaya could help much, he was just... curious. The person (he wasn't sure about the gender) looked a bit strange and... fragile.
Yukimura looked up at the sound of a voice floating through the gates. "If you don't mind," he said. "I'm trying to meet a friend here (well, actually, probably several friends), but I can't seem to get in." The gate was probably locked for a good reason, Seiichi thought, but he wasn't a threat, so there wasn't any reason that he shouldn't be allowed in.
Of course, a gate couldn't know that. "Do you think you might be able to open it from that side?"
Well, there weren't any problems with opening the gate from the inside, naturally. Ryuhana was not a prison, well, not most of the time, anyway. Akaya turned the knob and let the other in. "Dorms are that way." He pointed to the building behind him.
He wouldn't butt in who the boy (he decided to go with that) searched for. No need to be nosy, like some people (stupid Americans).
"Thank you!" Yukimura smiled, and started towards the building that the other boy indicated. It was so nice here, with so many trees! There were trees at the Brotherhood, too, but they weren't as comfortable as those planted here.
Ah ... but then he backtracked, and turned to look at the boy who'd let him in again. He was just a little shorter, with unruly curly hair and ... hm, something about his eyes seemed strange, too. Not his natural color, maybe? Seiichi decided not to ask about that just yet. "What's your name?" he asked instead.
Akaya was just about to leave when the other asked for his name. Well, it wasn't as if he was in any hurry, "Kirihara Akaya, you?" When he got a closer look at the other, he just... blinked and stared. Just what the hell? But he snapped out of it as fast. He didn't like people staring at him, so why was he doing the same at another mutant. Especially since he, himself, had some freaky eyes staring right back at him whenever he looked in the mirror.
"Oh!" Yukimura said, forgetting all about going to the dorm building. "You're the one I'm here to see. Well," he added, "one of them. But you were the first!"
And Akaya-san was blinking at him -- well, of course he was, he hadn't even introduced himself yet. He was probably confused; after all, Yukimura was sure that strange people didn't just show up at school every day. Or maybe they did ... he'd have to ask. "I'm Yukimura Seiichi," he said genially. "I talked to you on my journal. You were the one who had ... trouble seeing things, weren't you?"
Well, no, it wasn't as if Kirihara considered Yukimura strange, just was slightly surprised that the boy came all the way to Ryuhana just to meet him (and some other people). "Oh, well, hello then," Akaya said, puzzling over the "seeing things" comment. His eye-sight was perfect, so just what the hell the other mutant meant? "Probably, whatever you mean by that." He shrugged.
"I mean you said looking at things was boring," Yukimura pointed out. The other boy looked too stubborn, with his face set like that -- it would probably stick, Yukimura thought absently, and suppressed a laugh. "Or maybe that you were impatient?"
Both were probably equally true. "Come on," he said, taking Akaya-san's wrist -- gently, of course. "Why don't you take me on a tour of your school? I've never been here before, after all. You can show me how you see things first, and then we'll trade."
Akaya raised an eyebrow, and shrugged again. He didn't have anything better to do anyway, so why not? "Sure." Might as well work on his patience a bit.
He forced himself to slow down, from his usually fast stride, as he walked, pointing to random things, giving brief descriptions. Just like brief were the moments he paid any attention to them. It was a rare occurance for something to catch his attention for longer than one minute (at max!). Which was why he didn't really read books (though that one he read when he stayed the night over in Yamato's room the other day, was kind of interesting, he actually read it whole, then again, it was short, he didn't have anything else to do and he couldn't move).
Kirihara stopped for a longer while next to what was left of the classroom building. "This was the classroom building. Nothing interesting, 'cept for the music room." He made a face, his amp was there at the time (though, thank God, or rather his senpai, for getting his guitar back!) so now he had to buy another one. Duh.
Yukimura had followed along with eager but pleasant attention, still thinking that Akaya-san moved far too quickly for him to actually stop and take notice of things, but he supposed that would come later. The campus was really very nice, he thought; clean and well-groomed, and the growing things were so much happier here than at the Brotherhood. It was like light, he thought, and freshness, whereas the other school was far too dark and stale. He couldn't understand how anyone could possibly live like that, especially if they were given the choice between the two.
But they'd rounded on a ruin, a collapsed collection of brick and rubble, and Yukimura's eyes went wide. He was going to ask, in softly shocked tones, what had happened, or if anything actually had happened or if it was meant to be like this, when he got an explanation before the question could escape his lips.
The classrooms. Former classrooms, rather.
He asked anyway. "What ... happened?"
What happened? Kirihara shuddered at the memory. Earthquakes were nasty things in his opinion, like... really nasty. He sighed, "There was an earthquake. Unnatural, from what I have heard." He didn't feel the need to know more than that. " 's all I know." Akaya was slightly surprised to see the other boy so shocked upon seeing well... this.
An earthquake ... centered on one spot, like that? It didn't make sense. None of the other buildings seemed to have suffered as much disturbance, and the trees, though mildly distressed, weren't in any pain here ...
But 'unnatural', he'd said. "Someone ... did this?"
Someone had to have, Yukimura thought. It ... wasn't impossible; he'd known of people who could do much more than level buildings. And he spared a thought for those that had been harmed by those people, then turned to Akaya-san. "I'm sorry," he said quietly. "Are you ... alright?"
"Heh, well... surely. Otherwise that would be impossible." Akaya said, pointing to the ruin and dormitory. Whoever did this, was aiming only for classrooms. But hell, Kirihara didn't care, no one was hurt, so whatever.
The quietly asked question was not something he expected to hear. And what the heck was Yukimura apologising for? He frowned, "Don't apologise, it's not like you did it." Even if the boy said he did,
Akaya wouldn't belive. Because... just... no way, it was impossible. "and I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" He shrugged. This particular building wasn't something he was really fond of, well, maybe except
for the music room, but playing in his own room wouldn't be bad. Just that... music room was soundproofed while his room not.
"Doesn't it hurt?" Yukimura asked, concerned. Although, he thought, maybe 'hurt' was the wrong word ... not if this boy was as insensitive as he claimed. "Or ... bother you?" Certainly, this was the sight he needed to teach; he'd only hoped that he'd be able to do so with an emotion other than pain or sadness.
... "It was just a building. No one was hurt, so what is there to be bothered about?" Kirihara started feeling bad, for not feeling bad for the ruin... what the hell? He would surely get a headache... soon.
Yukimura bit his lip ... clearly, this wasn't working. Best to change tactics. Instead of answering, he wrapped his fingers around the other boy's wrist and tugged him in another direction. "Show me something else," he requested. "Like where you live?"
At this point Akaya decided that Yukimura was... weird... (weirder than Yamato? Uh... Nah...) Well, anyway...
He pointed to the dorms again. "It's where everyone else lives." And just to not be totally rude, he added, "can show you, if you want."
"Show me everything," Yukimura asked. "I want to see how it's different." Which was the best way of saying that he wanted to see if he could discover the spirit of this place. So far it was definitely one of the brightest places he'd seen yet.
Except for home, he thought, but there was little chance home was as he remembered it. Everything had changed just as he had ....
Weird, definitely but, anyway. "Yeah, sure. Come on." He turned around and started walking again, expecting the other to follow. "I haven't been around here for long yet, can's say much about it." He sighed, noting that Yukimura was slightly behind, not keeping up with him, so he waited in front of the entrance of the dorms building.
"Sorry for being slow," Yukimura apologized, catching up to his makeshift tour guide and following him inside. "I haven't gotten as much sun as I'd like to, lately~ I'm much faster than this usually, I promise."
He'd considered taking Akira-san's advice and stealing away from the medlab when his doctors weren't looking, but he really hadn't wanted to get in trouble, either. But the doctor hadn't even shown up today, so after making certain he wasn't coming, Yukimura just left.
He had a good enough idea of what he needed to regain his strength, after all, and any number of medicines or nutritional supplements wouldn't help. But that was neither here nor there.
The dormitories looked just as one might expect dormitories to look: like teenagers lived here, and in close quarters at that. It looked nice.... fun, too, maybe. But after they rounded the corner, the hallway seemed to open up -- it still looked lived-in, but brighter, newer, cleaner ... Fresher, Yukimura thought absently. "You like it here?" The question mark was kind of an afterthought; he didn't see how anyone couldn't like it here....
"I suppose you can say that." Was Kirihara's answer, "I don't mind it here. Though my own room back home was much better. I still need to make sis bring the rest of my stuff." He elaborated a bit. Acoustic guitar, some more clothes, stacks of DVDs and the most important thing... the files with his music notes... A thought of just where he was going to fit all of this never crossed his mind, he wanted his things close, and that was that. "Hmm, dunno what exactly do you want to see..." he asked, stopping in the common room.
"I want to see what it's like here," Yukimura said. "Do you think they'd let me sit in on a class?" Oh, if they even had classes anymore; he couldn't know if they did without classrooms ... "Or stay in one of the rooms? ... Maybe with someone, like you? I don't know anyone else yet ..." He had no idea if it would even be at all similar to what he'd heard of the Brotherhood. No classes meant nothing interesting, dark hallways meant no sunlight.
These hallways were so light. And if the plants were happy, so would he be. "I might like to stay," he stated simply.
Kirihara could just stare at the boy, "Well..." what should he say? "I think you would have to ask the headmistresses." Though no way in hell he was going to take part in this talk. He used to stay away from the witch as far as was possible. So yeah, he might show Yukimura where to go, who to talk to, and then... hightail and maybe leave the boy some info as to where to find him later, if the other needed him that is.
"You really want to stay?" Akaya asked.
"At least for a little while," Yukimura clarified. "Just to see how it is. Even with the ..." He paused, searching for a comfortable way to describe the condition of the classrooms, "... damage, I can tell it's a lot better than where I just was, and a lot better than where I was ... before that." He knew he had to stop thinking of the laboratory, but it hadn't been all that long ago, just a few days; and he must have been there for ... months, maybe, before things really went wrong.
He shook his head; it was silly to keep thinking about things like that. It would only hold him back. His expression brightened again. "Do you think they'd talk to me?"
Akaya regarded the other boy for a moment. The changes in expression caught his attention, from smiling to sad and back to happy. Well, whatever was the cause, he wouldn't pry. He, himself had some things he would rather not talk about with others. "Why wouldn't they? You should always try, I think." He answered with a shrug. If you didn't try, you wouldn't know.
And there was a sentiment that Yukimura agreed with. Hope went with that, too, of course -- if he'd managed to get out of the lab, then certainly he could stay here. It was all about attaining goals no matter the setbacks. Even really big setbacks.
"I'll do more than try," he stated. "Can you tell me where I might find them?"
"In the offices. Hanamura's slightly creepy, so better talk with Ryuzaki." After that Akaya gave Yukimura some basic directions, though he could just take the boy there, but... He asked to "tell" so Kirihara did "tell". Which saved him from seeing the pervy sensei. "And good luck, I guess." He added at the end.
Yukimura frowned a bit -- what happened to the tour? -- but suspected that Akaya-san just wanted to stay here for now. That was fine, though; the directions he gave were detailed enough that he could find the offices in question on his own. And if he didn't, he thought, well, that was just an excuse to come see him again. "Thank you," he said. "Maybe you'll be seeing more of me soon."
With a wave, he turned and set off down the hallway.
Kirihara watched the boy leave and shrugged. Well, he wouldn't mind that. Yukimura seemed nice enough, weird but nice. Kinda like Yamato-senpai, but at the same time... not really. The idiot he had for a senpai was weirder. Most definitely. And Yukimura was well, maybe not nicer, but didn't tease him from the start.
Akaya stood in the common room for a while, before he remembered what he wanted to do before meeting the boy. Oh yeah, the city. So he made his way to the school gates again to take a long stroll...
