Summary: Sanada 'saves' Yukimura and brings him back to Brotherhood. The next morning he visits the other mutant out of curiosity. And he thinks Yukimura is a girl. And Sanada is nice... kinda.

Sanada watched the other mutant crumble to the floor, unconscious. Their bones might be intact thanks to the uniform they wore. Making his way from the cell he'd been fighting with the other in he searched for the supposed survivor still in the building. His back was bleeding slightly, it wasn't a deep cut but it had torn through skin. It stung faintly as he picked his way through the corridor. There were so many dead bodies it was hard to believe there was a survivor. And if there was it wouldn't be hard to miss, mutant or not the person couldn't be in a good state. He stepped along the hallway, looking into the cells, searching for any sign of life.

The cell was cold. It had always been cold. The only reprieve came from the small window overhead, when the sun would shine bright enough to cast a warm patch on the floor. Yukimura followed the square of light as it moved across the floor daily, always returning to the corner at night, hoping to find some warmth in the juncture of the walls.

There was never any noise, never any other movement. Not since the last of the others had passed on. Not until just then, when Yukimura heard the click of the door, and heavy footfalls, and caught the motion of someone else, someone alive in the room. He lifted his head to look towards the person that came in: tall, strong, silent. And he tried to push himself to his feet, moving in some way to prove that he was still alive. Hope flared inside him that he might be able to leave this awful place once and for all, that the person that had come here was some sort of savior and not here to finish him.

He just caught the barest movement from the corner of his eye. Locating the survivor Sanada moved into the cell, making his quickly to the corner the other was propped against. Crouching he examined the other mutant. He pressed a hand against the girl's cheek, then checking for a pulse. He got up and found a bloodstained blanket, it was better than nothing. Wrapping the cloth around the other mutant he lifted her. "I'm bringing you somewhere to recover," he informed her quietly, making his way out of the cell. The other two would probably still be unconscious, he could leave without worry.

And a savior he was, Yukimura thought, as warm arms wrapped an old blanket around him and lifted him. He knew he couldn't be that heavy; he'd had so little in the way of nourishment since arriving at the laboratory.

Somewhere to recover, the voice said, the man's breath warm on the side of his face, and that was enough to let Yukimura know that it was okay to relax now, that he need not try to remain conscious. It was going to be okay.

Sanada went back to the medlab the next morning. The cuts on his back were fine, there was no need for extra attention but he was curious about the other mutant he'd brought back the night before. Tugging the brim of his hat down shielding his eyes. He was dressed in comfortable sweats, as if he was going out for his morning jog. Just a little detour to the medlab though, to sate his curiosity. He turned through the hallways, step brisk. Sliding the door to the lab open quietly he stepped in.

Yukimura had slept through most of the evening, waking occasionally throughout the morning for a few moments here and there only to fall asleep again. Sleep was safe, here; he didn't need to be on the lookout. There were still scientists, but they had left him alone, and he was very, very glad for that. It was during one of the waking moments that the door slid open and the same tall man that had carried him out of the laboratory came into the room he occupied, and he smiled -- perhaps he'd come to see him? Maybe now he could give his thanks! "Hello?" he ventured.

Sanada gave a soft grunt of acknowledgement. The doctor-scientists weren't around it seemed, leaving him alone with the girl. "You're stronger today," he said softly, walking closer to her bedside, examining her face curiously. Her eyes were completely blue, though where the whites of her eyes should be it was lighter. "How long were you trapped there?" he asked curiously, he wasn't sure what her mutations were but to survive after so many had already died, it must have something to do with it.

"I don't know," Yukimura admitted. "Months?" he suggested. It sounded about right. "But there were others around for most of that time." And there had been testing, and poking and prodding, and experiments -- whatever they'd done to most of the mutants there hadn't worked as well (if at all) on Yukimura. They'd left him alone after a while, but that also meant he didn't know most of what was going on outside his room.
Not until people started dying, anyway, and then it had been all too clear. But that was days ago....
“Ah,” he replied quietly. Sanada was torn between curiosity pushing him to ask more and his usual quiet reserve. “They’ll probably want to know what happened,” he told the girl, that is if they didn’t already know what happened. When Sakaki had given him the mission it seemed the man already knew a good deal of the details, he couldn’t help but wonder how much Sakaki knew and how much he’d omitted in the briefing he’d given Sanada.

"I'll tell them what I can," Yukimura offered. He was still a bit wary of this place -- he did not like the fact there were more scientists, and that he was being kept inside. He was almost glad that he didn't have very much information of his own to begin with ... but he wasn't above keeping anything that he didn't think anyone here needed to know. "Can I ask you ... where this is? And who you are?"

“You’re at Brotherhood, a school training mutants for a mutant supremacy movement. I’m… a student here,” he replied flatly in disinterest. “If you know something can speed up your recovery you might want to tell them,” he commented offhandedly, noting the girl’s reaction to her surroundings.

Sunlight, was Yukimura's first thought. The artificial lights inside the ... medical facility ... were better than nothing, but they were harsh and cold. He didn't really know whether being outside would accelerate his recovery or if he'd just prefer it, but ... it couldn't hurt to ask. He made a note to mention it to one of the doctors when they came back.

"I ..." Yukimura looked over at the tall boy again -- he really wasn't as old as he'd thought, now that he got a better look at him. His eyes were strong and sharp, but like the lights overhead, they lacked warmth. "I wanted to thank you, too, for ..." Saving me? "... getting me out of there."

Sanada glanced at her, staring for a moment at the thanks. “It was a mission, there’s nothing to thank me for,” he replied curtly. He tugged on his hat again, pulling it over his eyes. “I’ll be leaving now, rest,” he told the other mutant lowly. Turning away from the bed he headed out of the lab.
