Summary: Saeki talks to Oshitari about Kite's trial inclusion in the HFC, and Oshitari brings up Saeki's memory problems.

"Yuushi," Saeki said, paying full attention to Oshitari now. "Kindly repeat the last bit about some trial member?"

"...I made Kite Eishirou a trial member." Yuushi said it matter of factly, despite his lips tightening in displeasure.

"... I know you don't do things without a reason, babe, but I'm not getting it," Saeki said. "Either he's in, or he's not." The last he'd heard, the HFC wasn't a DVD or book club. What was Oshitari thinking? Saeki sighed, turning over onto his back and staring up at the ceiling of their room, looking at pale white. It was boring, so he closed his eyes. "You're not making him a full member?"

"I may, if he can prove he's of any use to me at all." Yuushi set aside his journal, bookmarking his page with a piece of velvet. "If not, I suppose I might toss a coin and see who gets to...remove him. Between you and Akira, I imagine", he drawled, tossing his lover a slight knowing smirk.

"I don't know the man, but anything for you, babe," Saeki said, stretching. "Come here," he beckoned.

Unfolding himself from the chair, Yuushi sauntered over, a bit tired, but he wasn't about to let on about that. Just another reason for his lovers to steal away his laptop and set his schedule back by days. Standing over Saeki, he raised an eyebrow, hands tucked into his pockets. "Yes, Koujirou?"

Saeki reached out, pulling Oshitari down. "What, can't a cat want a hug and cuddle?" He raised his eyebrows, but didn't really allow Oshitari any choice in the matter. If Oshitari wanted to get up and go back to the computer when Saeki wanted to cuddle, Saeki was going to do something about some power cords. He nuzzled Oshitari. "Run it by me again, babe. You don't trust him, so I'm pretty sure he's not exactly prime material. And you're letting him in to use him. Fuji, I presume? You sure you can keep Kite in line if he's in cahoots with the White King?"

"Cats are notorious opportunists", Yuushi remarked in return, but allowed it, letting himself relax in Saeki's arms. "I am not exactly thinking of just throwing him at Fuji...but it would be helpful to have someone there to fill in the blanks Ryou leaves when he speaks of the white side. Besides, at the time this situation with Ohtori was full of unknowns. I couldn't risk allowing him to kill either Ryou or Akira or attack anyone else. This Kite is a decent babysitter, if nothing else. So far."

"Babysitters normally get paid in cash, not memberships, and unless you're really good at hiding something from us, babe, I doubt you lack the money," Saeki said. He stroked Oshitari's hair and nuzzled him.

"I've never hidden the fact that I want Fuji under my thumb from either of you. I have cursed this alternate dimension again and again in my mind. For taking you, and taking the Fuji that I trusted. I won't be satisfied until I know what he's planning." Yuushi allowed the nuzzling and the stroking, curling his own fingers around Saeki's neck, shifting until he was comfortably entwined around the transmorph. "Kite Eishirou can either be the perfect pawn in our little game...or he can leave the board entirely. In pieces, if need be."

Purring, Saeki snuggled close to Oshitari. "I just hope you know what you're doing, babe," Saeki said. "I don't like this. We have no guarantee he's not a double, and anything that goes out when it shouldn't is going to cause us all a whole lot of pain and trouble. Cats hunt rats, they don't tolerate them."

"We have Ryou and Ohtori-kun. He doesn't seem to be the type to forget the past and move on. So he'll stay, and show us what a good little pawn he can be." Lounging on his cat lover was comfortable as always, and Yuushi let his eyes slide shut, just enjoying the feeling of the other around his body. He wasn't intending to use Shishido or Ohtori...other than dangle them in front of Kite if the other should start to fall out of line. It was hardly foolproof, he knew, but his desire to checkmate the White King was strong enough to let him take chances.

Besides, just because he didn't exactly care for the impression Kite made on him at first, didn't mean he couldn't overlook it if he could use him to his own ends. Absently Yuushi stroked Saeki's chest, tracing nonsense patterns with his fingertips.

Saeki was quiet for a while, enjoying the touch of Oshitari's fingertips. So easy, to just forget that one was constantly plotting, planning, scheming just to stay two steps ahead. All too easy. "How much does he know, babe, and how did he find out?"

"He knows as much as Shishido-kun and Ohtori-kun know, I assume." Yuushi moved a little, a darkly amused look on his face as he looked up at his lover. "Apparently he received some sort of temporary telepathy from the friendly neighborhood secret laboratory that kidnapped him. Interesting, don't you think? It was one of the first things he threw into my face when he contacted me." He chuckled, a dry and dark sound. "I believe we were stolen by the wrong labs."

"So the labs are doing instant-telepathy now? Can I get some?" Saeki asked, frowning as he met Oshitari's eyes. "I really don't like this now, babe. Too convenient. Maybe I'm being a suspicious bastard, but I've never heard of labs giving powers instead of taking them away. Would be very useful to know just which lab this was, and why they're giving powers to mutants who already have them to begin with. Why give something like telepathy to a mutie you don't know? And of course, he made sure to tell you." Saeki nuzzled his lover, breathing deeply. "My instincts are screaming, Yuu. Be careful. We can only protect you so far, and you know neither of us have mental powers."

"Which would be why I haven't bothered to meet with him directly", Yuushi replied, giving his lover a bland look. "Let me be the paranoid one, Koujirou. You'll find I'm much better at it. Despite your excellent instincts..." He bent his head, dropping a lingering kiss on Saeki's lips, fingers curling around the back of his neck.

Saeki knew when Oshitari wanted him to back off, and let it go for now. "Don't get yourself killed, babe. I didn't come back across some weirdo dimension for that." He gripped Oshitari's head, holding the other close while he kissed (properly--what was all this touching thing about? KISS, dammit) back. It was frustrating to watch on the sidelines, sometimes, but sometimes Saeki wondered if that was all he could do. He tried to tell himself not to think about it. In that way lay madness, and he needed to avoid that for Kira and for Yuu. It was difficult enough figuring out who and what was what universe.

Damn. When Saeki kissed him like that, Yuushi's thoughts tended to scatter. Normally that didn't matter to him, as it realigned his thoughts into...other activites. But his lover had reminded him of something he'd been suspecting lately, and was now distracting him.

Still, he kissed back, and only broke off when they both needed the air. "It's difficult to recall what we were talking about when you do that", he managed, unclenching his fingers that had wound themselves into Saeki's hair. When his pulse leveled back off, he studied his lover a bit, running the pad of his thumb over the other's lips. "Are you having any difficulties, Koujirou? Perhaps in knowing where you are?"

It was a guess on his part, and even as busy and distracted as he was by other things, it wasn't as if he'd missed occasional slips, omissions and lapses that weren't at all usual for Saeki. And sometimes he mentioned things that had never happened. In their world, at least. So much for his hope that he was the only one suffering private mental issues.

Caught. Well, it wasn't as if his lovers were blind or deaf. "It's not serious," Saeki said, nibbling on Oshitari's thumb. "I know where I am, I know what universe I'm in. Maybe some small bits aren't quite aligned right, but I"ll figure it out in the end." He wasn't exactly having a lot of trouble keeping the universes straight lately, but anything back past a few months was hazy. "Seem to have lost a chunk--not lost, but they've been put in the same drawer as the one on the other side. It's not a big deal. It doesn't affect anything. Help me to practice some logical thinking and deduction, right? Sorting this world from the next? Cause and effect, and all that jazz, hey?"

Maybe it was a big deal, and maybe it did affect things, but Saeki didn't want Oshitari to worry about him. "On the other hand, I remember stuff about the people I met while I was there. Not much, but pieces. If any of it's useful, Yuu ... Any of it." He wanted to help, to do something. Keeping an eye on Ohtori was one thing, but it smelled strongly of babysitting.

"I'm sure it could be. But that isn't what concerns me." Yuushi frowned, a momentary surge of irrational jealousy shooting through him. For Koujirou's sake, and the well-being of certain anatomical parts of himself, there had better not have been any instances of his lover mistaking him or Akira for their 'other' selves.

Still, he took a breath and let it out. They had covered that much before already, and it was time to move on. "Is it really not such a big deal? I know Ryou and I were frustrated and confused for quite a while, having memories that were not our own." It was a moment of understanding that let Yuushi give Saeki's face a tender caress. "If you need us...need our help, Koujirou, you have but to ask. There isn't anything I would not do...for you."

"Then what's the problem, babe?" Saeki asked, making sure he said it lightly. It was important not to seem worried, and really, when one thought about it, having one's memories mixed up might even be a blessing, especially with this new mind-reader in their midst. All the better to give Kite mixed-up or wrong information, then, and make him doubt the veracity of anything he DID see. Heh.

Saeki reached up, capturing Oshitari's hand in his own, bringing it down and meeting the other's eyes. "I know who I am, I know who you and Red are. Everyone else I can place. It's just who did what or who's doing what--or whom, haha--I may have some trouble sifting through. But I'll get there. Pretend I got the old-man's memory disease early, luv, and you'll get what I mean."

The offer of help was touching, but showing weakness in front of Oshitari or Kamio--not physical or powers-related, but actual mental/integrity weakness--felt like anathema. Saeki dismissed the idea before it even had a chance to say hello. He wasn't THAT far gone. So it was a little worrisome not having the right memories. So sometimes he had to stop and try to retrace who was loyal to who, who was on speaking terms with whom, what faces to avoid, which to trust ... but that wasn't something Oshitari or Kamio could do for him.

If it came down to it, Saeki would just fall back on his instincts. He'd always done so, and always would. The only two people in the world he could trust implicitly were his two lovers, and even if his memories were shaky, his knowledge of who they were wasn't.

So Saeki shook his head, smiling at Oshitari. "Let me try and deal with this on my own, babe. You've got enough on your plate without me shoving my ghosts on you. Besides, I just need a memory pill, not a shrink." Though it was always great to know they cared. "If I ever need it, though, I'll let both of you know, immediately. And I'll always ask if I'm at all uncertain. Promise."

How like Koujirou, Yuushi thought. Always stubborn, always preferring to do difficult things himself.

How alike they were.

Letting his head drop down onto Saeki's broad chest, Yuushi listened to his heartbeat for a moment. "Good", was his only comment.

Momentarily surprised, Saeki was a little slow to respond. No argument? No pushing? But then he leaned his chin on Yuushi's head, keeping quiet. There was no point in Oshitari pushing if Saeki wanted Oshitari to stop worrying, right? "Thanks, babe," he said instead, giving him a squeeze.

Though he certainly wanted to talk to Kamio about this as soon as possible. They'd be keeping their eyes open, if nothing else.
