Summary: Shishido spots another student out and about on campus in the middle of the night.
If the height of the waxing moon were anything to go by, then it was midnight. Or close to, he thought, standing on the slant of the roof and staring up at the sky. Though, midnight or not…either way, it was well past curfew.
And the dorm roof was technically closed.
That hadn't stopped Yukimura Seiichi from finding his way up to it. It was one of the advantages of not having a roommate at the moment, really, and another of his mutant ability: slipping out his dorm room window in the middle of the night without disturbing another, and then lifting himself up almost effortlessly to the top of the dorms. The night was cool; however Seiichi had thought to slip on his jacket and a pair of jeans, even a pair of socks, before climbing onto the window ledge.
His t-shirt left a bit to be desired in the chilly November breeze. But he was fairly certain he'd live through the experience. And it was far better to be chilled then stay inside the dorm when he'd woken up feeling the edges of his power slipping his control. He didn't have to worry about tossing his roommates belonging all over the room with his ability; at the same time, he hated to sleep when his power felt like it was going to escape its bridle.
The headache had eased since he'd woken. It was now, nearly an hour later, nothing more than a slight pounding behind his eyes -- easy enough to soothe with a couple of aspirin he kept stashed in his dresser. He yawned, stretched and ran his fingers through his hair.
Maybe he should go back inside.
Shishido wasn't in the mood to head straight back to the house he currently shared with Ohtori and Kite. The burden of dealing with a side of his mate that hated him as well as constantly being around Kite who made him feel such mixed feelings was taking a larger toll on him than he would have imagined. While he would have preferred to perch on one of the taller business buildings downtown, they were out of the way and it would have taken more time than he had right now. Instead he settled on heading to the dorms building. A poor substitute to the height he typically enjoyed but one that would still work as a thinking place.
Launching from the ground, large majestic wings moving behind him he headed towards the roof of the dorms. Nearly where he thought was a good thinking place he spotted someone else already on the roof, undoubtedly using it for much the same reason. But if it was a student, he'd have to go over there and tell them to get back to bed. It seemed to becoming quite a bad habit he was developing. Maybe he should start wearing a blindfold around campus after class so he'd stop seeing the delinquents running around. What happened to campus security is what he really was wondering as he landed on the roof a few feet away from the youth he didn't recognize.
"Hey." Shishido called out in a friendly greeting though he wasn't feeling overly cordial about his thinking time being cut into and his space invaded. Even if he were the invader.
Yukimura tensed at the sound of someone else on the roof, turning his attention away from the night sky and towards the unfamiliar voice. In the dim moonlight, he could make out the man standing in the shadows being him. A man with...wings, if the two shapes arching over his head were anything to go by.
Well, it wasn't like he hadn't seen that before.
He just hadn't seen that on this campus before. And Yukimura was fairly certain he'd have noticed someone walking around with wings. Still, he was only a little wary -- if the other had meant to harm him, he doubted that the encounter would have started with a greeting. Smiling, he slipped his hands into the pockets of his jacket.
"Hi," he replied in return.
"Stargazing?" Shishido asked as he moved closer to who he assumed was a student. He doubted the teen was; they were too close to the city to really make out the stars but it was an opening and he figured he should try to take a better approach this time than he did with that Shiraishi kid.
Yukimura gave a soft chuckle and shook his head. The stars were barely visible, with the streetlamps from the city casting a glow that obscured the other points of light. "Moon-gazing, perhaps?" he offered, though it was far from the truth. "But…not really."
The telekinetic saw no point in hiding what he was doing. Yes, it was after curfew…but. He was clearly busted, even if he didn't know the person standing on the roof with him.
Lying just seemed kind of useless.
Shrugging, he smoothed fingers through his hair and glanced back up at the sky. "I woke up with a headache awhile ago and thought the fresh air might do me some good."
Shishido liked this guy already; he was straight forward and didn't give him any lame-ass excuses or try to suck up. That didn't mean he could just let him hang out here by himself though, at least not until he was sure the guy was safe. "Pretty dangerous spot in the middle of the night for getting fresh air." At least for someone without wings and night vision and as far as he could tell this guy in front of him had neither.
There was probably no arguing that, and maybe, had Yukimura lived anywhere but in Winchester for a handful of years, he might not have even ventured out to begin with. But the roof had always been his get-away place; the few other fliers at the school knew to leave him alone with he sought refuge on the peak (and he offered them the same respect).
"Honestly? There's no need to worry," he assured the stranger, digging deep into the pocket of his jacket. He pulled a small, keychain-sized, but bright, flashlight and held it up. "I did come prepared."
"A flashlight?" How the hell was that dinky little flashlight supposed to protect anyone? Clearly this guy was never in the boy scouts if he thought that was being prepared. "Should I assume you have a few other tricks up your sleeves besides that?" God how Shishido hoped so, if not he was writing Ryuhana faculty (besides himself) off as being more useless than the dinky flashlight.
A few?
Yukimura chuckled softly, his shoulders shaking a bit with effort to contain himself. "I've got...a few," he assured. Quite a few, if the truth were to be told, but he wasn't going into the myriad details. There were some things that everyone on campus didn't need to know. His power, though, wasn't one of them. And since the other's ability was at least partially evident, Yukimura could at least share the same.
Shifting his concentration to himself, he lifted himself up a meter or so from the top of the roof. "This one comes in pretty handy." He shrugged, keeping himself steady mid-air.
Shishido blinked as the teen in front of him started to rise from the roof. Now that was a cool party trick. "I guess it would be." Well at least he wouldn't have to worry about the guy breaking his neck. "So what's your name?"
Yukimura nodded as he slowly lowered himself back down, careful of his footing on the rooftop. The edges of his headache stung at the exertion; not so badly, however, that he wobbled or lost his focus as he steadied himself. Going up was the easy part, after all. Going down?
Was just a bit more difficult.
Once he was settled, he glanced back up at the winged mutant. "Yukimura Seiichi," he answered, reaching up to tuck some of his stray hair behind an ear. Or Scion, he added mentally. It wasn't necessary to introduce himself with his codename anymore; his Japanese classmates could pronounce 'Seiichi' just fine -- and the majority still called him 'Yukimura' regardless. "Yourself?"
The descent wasn't as smooth as the ascent, Shishido noted as he watched the other, prepared to grab him in case his powers didn't hold up and he tumbled off the roof or something. Given more training though, he imagined that Yukimura would be able to move more than just himself that little bit if his guess about his powers was correct. Some people had such cool powers, not that he didn't like his... well like his now, there had been a minor adjustment period needed to get used to wings. But he was letting his thoughts drift. Focusing he smiled at Yukimura and moved to sit down near him, careful of his wings. "My name's Shishido Ryou, I'm part of the night staff." He'd say trainer but that always made him feel like he was taming lions or something.
Ryuhana had a night staff?
Well...that was a surprise. Logical, but a surprise, Yukimura decided. "That might explain why I don't remember seeing you," he mused. "Though...staff, huh?" The telekinetic grinned and rolled his shoulders.
"I suppose that this is the point where I start wondering just how much trouble I'm in for being up here, isn't it?"
"I help train the group of students who share nocturnal tendencies with me. And I tend not to stick around here much besides then." Though he seemed good at running across people running around despite that. "And I'm too tired to go yelling at you now that I know you aren't about to break your neck." Shishido said before letting out a wide yawn and stretching both arms and wings out. He wanted to just go cuddle with Choutarou and read historical fiction but there was such a high chance that going home would just add to his headache.
"I wasn't planning on breaking anything," Yukimura agreed. That was why he'd come out to the roof after all -- save for the slight, very small possibility that he might somehow manage to hurl himself off it. There was no point in bringing that up though.
He hadn't lost control like that since he'd started training.
"Thanks for the concern though," he smiled. "I was just planning on heading back in away and trying to get some more sleep."
"It's sort of my job to be concerned and stuff." Shishido said leaning back to look up at the sky. It was really too bad he couldn't see the stars properly here; he'd have to drag Choutarou to the mountains or something once he was better to get away from it all. But since he was here now he might as well try to do everything damn awesomely. Even if that meant putting his needs and wants aside to be a good teacher type person.
"Before you go though... do you do this often? You know, get headaches and come hang out on the roof?" That didn't seem normal to him, not that he had much experience with the super mind type powers but it shouldn't cause pain or anything while sleeping right? He really hoped it wasn't a reoccurring thing and he wouldn't have to ask Hanamura about it. That would be really uncool.
"Mmm...sometimes," Yukimura answered blithely. He had been having more headaches since coming back to Japan and attending Ryuhana, but that was probably due to the differences in training. It wasn't that Yukimura didn't think training here was appropriate -- for most people.
But with what he planned on doing after he graduated? It was hardly enough of a push.
So sometimes, maybe, he pushed himself a bit harder on his own. It wasn't like many people here tried to keep him in check. And he'd still gotten power-related headaches, even at Winchester. "It's actually not as bad as it used to be," he deferred, giving the other an unconcerned shrug. "Just part of being a psi, really."
"Times like these where I'm happy I'm not one. But you know, if it gets too much you should go see the docs and get a day off or something." Shishido suggested, glad to hear that whatever was bothering Yukimura was improving and not getting worse. "And I guess I should let you get to bed." He should probably chastise him or something but it's not like the guy was that far away from his room and he also understood the need to get some fresh air and peaceful moments every now and then.
Yukimura just shrugged. "Every power's got its ups and downs, though," he mused. Psionics just…got headaches. Or at least he did. "And yeah, I've done that a couple of times already. They know it's an issue for me, but other than letting me sleep or giving me aspirin, there's not much they can really do." He'd tried stronger medicine in the past, but all that did was make him feel spacey while his control slipped. Which, he had learned, was not a good combination.
"Mmm, yeah, I should. Thank God I don’t have class tomorrow," he chuckled softly. He could at least sleep in an hour or more, if he really felt like he needed it.
Focusing his power, Yukimura steadily lifted himself away from the roof and over the eaves.
"I guess it does. And sleep well." Shishido said as he watched Yukimura float down to his room. It was a bit weird to see someone hover above the ground like that without wings or any sort of device but it was still pretty impressive. When Yukimura was out of view he let out a long sigh and stretched back on the roof ignoring any protest from his wings being squished against the hard surface. He just wanted a few minutes to himself to think and relax before heading home. Staring up to the sky he listened to the night sounds and the soft muffled noises of students who were still awake in the dorms.
Eventually, when he was sure he could face Choutarou and Kite for another day, he stretched and headed home. Giving the window he assumed was Yukimura's one last look as he flew off to his lover.
