Summary: An exhausted Ohtori meets the AU Kite for the first time in the NV...
Having settled in nicely at his apartment finally, Kite Eishirou decided it was time to head out for some groceries. He wasn't going to get too much. Just enough to cover him for a couple weeks. He went around the local places, picking up things here and there. He had finally gotten to the little fresh fruit and veggies stand, picking up some mangos and bananas. When he turned to pay the lady for the fruit, he stopped dead as if someone had frozen him solid. It was like a dream. A very very vivid dream seeing the boy standing before him again. He wasn't sure what he should do. He blinked a moment when the elder woman in front of him asked him if he was ready to pay for the fruit. He nodded, paid quickly and began to walk away as if nothing had happened.
Choutarou didn't know why the hair on the back of his neck was standing up so much, he was too tired to carry much of a charge so it had to be something other than his mutation. Frowning deeply, he turned and paid the older woman at the counter, giving her a small smile and having a short chat about how often he came in to buy those sweet little grapes for a lover that the old woman hoped to meet, she was sure it was a nice young woman, no doubt. Finally saying his goodbyes he left the small store and froze again in the doorway, rubbing the odd feeling of skin tingling and standing hair again. Something just felt wrong somehow...but what was it.
As he made his way out the door, he swallowed hard, pushing back tears of joy and tears of pain. He was happy to see the man he loved alive and well again but at the same time... it hurt so much knowing this wasn't his lover. This wasn't HIS Ohtori Choutarou. The thought still lingering in his mind he looked back at Ohtori briefly, eyes revealing his sadness, before forcing himself to walk home. Once he was a little ways ahead of the silvery haired mutant, he shut his eyes a moment and whispered to himself before opening them again as he continued onward to his apartment. "Chou."
He was momentarily distracted by the almost sad look the man in line infront of him had given him, he could have sworn he'd met the man someplace before, he was sure he had. The silvery haired boy continued his walk, looking horribly confused, making his already sleep deprived face look all the more lost than usual. He didn't notice the walk light changing to a stop, and he continued right into the busy intersection, failing to hear shouts as the exhaustion finally had started to affect his mutation and to a greater extent, his hearing. A loud horn blared, it was just enough to alert him to look wide eyed at the vehicle bearing down upon him.
The moment Kite looked back at Ohtori again, it was to see the boy beginning to walk into traffic. In that split second, Kite dropped his groceries, ran full force after the silver haired boy. The moment he reached Ohtori, he was diving with the boy in his arms, scidding on pavement to the sidewalk. He had managed to save the man he loved. That thought alone was enough to lighten his spirits a little. He groaned and just laid on the ground a minute before looking at the boy he was still holding. "You alright?"
He felt an impact, he thought for a moment that he had been hit by the truck, but when he blinked at his rescuer he blushed a bit and squirmed to try and get upright quickly. It was the strange man that had been looking at him earlier. There was something earily familiar about this scene, sprawled on a hard ground, in someone's arms like this. He froze, his heart racing about a million miles per hour. "I-uh...yeah...are you? I mean- thank you for saving me...."
Kite just nodded and attempted to sit up, groaning a little. The marks that would have been on his body, were gone and the pain was subsiding faster now that he was no longer on his back. "Yeah I'm fine and I wasn't about to let someone get killed because they're half asleep." He smiled and chuckled a little before slowly rising to his feet. He then brushed himself off before continuing. "You need to be careful not to go out when you clearly haven't had enough sleep. You could get seriously hurt or even killed that way." He then looked and noticed the bag of grapes were squished all over the middle of the road where Ohtori would have been had it not been for Kite. "I'm Kite Eishirou by the way. And you are...?" He smirked as he looked at Ohtori curiously.
"I uh- I'm so sorry for troubling you." He was up and bowing his apology quickly before paling and looking at the smashed puddle of grapes where he had been moments before. He shook his head and tried glancing back to accept the lecture on road safety. "I'm so sorry...you didn't get hurt right? I weigh a lot. I uh- I couldn't hear anything and I'm sorry." He was red cheeked and looking about ready to cry from his tired state. "Ohtori...Ohtori Choutarou."
Kite just smiled warmly at the boy and nodded. "It's fine. Everything's alright. Come on. Let's go see about getting you some more grapes and me my groceries that I dropped back there." He then friendly wrapped an arm around the boy's shoulders and when the light turn for them to be able to cross safely, Kite lead the poor boy back across the street to the little fruit and vegatable stand. The elder lady that owned the place had seen the whole thing from a distance and was already working on replacing all of Kite's and Ohtori's groceries, giving them both more than they had originally bought.
Once they both had what they needed once again, Kite turned to Ohtori and smiled warmly. "You wanna come by my place for a little bit? You can rest a little and it's not far from here."
He blushed and offered a small smile to the elderly woman as he was handed the bag of grapes, quietly thanking her and attempting to pay for all of the destrpyed groceries. He hated the idea of taking charity and he probably did have enough. His family was pretty well to do, and living at the Oshitari compound had some perks.
"I should- go....my- my housemates will be worried. My uhm- boyfriend too..." It was much easier to admit gayness than mutancy any day of the week, not that there was any shame in either as far as he was concerned.
Boyfriend? I figured as much. He nodded and refused to let Ohtori pay for anything. "How far away do you live from here? Because if it's too far then I don't want you walking alone in the state you're in right now." He smiled again and continued. "Tell you what, you follow me to my place real quick so I can put this stuff away and then I'll walk you home. I'd feel better knowing that I was there to make sure you stayed safe than not knowing if you made it alright or not. Please. Allow me that much if you will."
"A bit away-" He looked around the town and sighed, "a pretty long way, actually." He deflated and rubbed his eyes, wondering if he really looked all that bad. Perhaps he shouldn't be alone, and in spite of a creepy feeling about the man, he felt safe enough for now. If need be, he could easily defend himself. "I uh- I guess I could do that much, Kite-san. Thank you."
Kite smiled. "Good and don't call me 'san.' Just Kite please. The 'san' part makes me feel old or something. I've never really liked being called 'Kite-san.' I've also never really been one for formalities. Growing up in a loving family and in Okinawa no less, one gets too use to informality." He winked and smiled as he lead the boy to his apartment. "So, what's your man like if you don't mind my asking that is."
"Oh- okay Kite." It was tough not using formalities, it had taken a very long time for Shishido to convince him to call him by his first name. He helped carry the older man's groceries a bit, following with a sluggish walk and his head down all the way into the apartment. "Ryou is ...well, he's an amazing person. He's really sweet- I guess I just hate being trouble for him." Between his deafness, his bad history, and now this sleep deprivation, he was a burden. "Do you have someone, Kite-sa- er....Kite?"
Just listening and trying to help keep the boy awake with conversation, Kite just smiled and nodded as they entered the apartment. Only when they were beginning to put away the groceries and Ohtori asked him about his love life, did Kite's smile fade a little. His eyes saddened as he paused in an attempt to stop his mind from thinking too long about the lover that he lost. After about a moment, he sighed and spoke quietly. "I did. He died not long ago. Wrong place, wrong time, and without warning was shot by the police. I found him not long after this happened and he had already been bleeding too long for me to really get him help. The hospital was too far away and he ended up dying in my arms." He then cleared his throat, swallowing hard in his attempt to hide his tears. He then turned and looked at the Ohtori with a small smile. "When I first saw you in the little market, I thought it was him but then I knew better. You look like him, although, his eyes were a lot sadder than yours. He grew up with a rough family life, never knowing real love and happiness until he met me. I loved him dearly and I only regret that I was not able to do more for him." He sighed and turned away again, returning to putting away his groceries. "I try not to think about it too much. So anyway, what are your housemates like?"
"I'm so sorry..." He couldn't imagine losing Ryou, he probably wouldn't have been able to recover in any sense, particularly if he had died like that. But there was something horribly wrong- in the dreams- he'd been shot and someone other than Ryou was there. He suddenly felt a bit dizzy, and had to put the grapes on the counter. "My housemates- are....nice people...very strange though. I like them a lot, it's like having a great big family."
"Thank you." Kite bowed his head a moment before turning to smile, happy the boy had moved to the subject change. "That's good." He then looked at Ohtori wryly. "You alright? You look like you're about to fall over. Why don't you have a seat on the couch a minute and rest. I'll finish up here and change shirts really quickly."
"I'm fine. Not like I've been sleeping much in weeks, so it's not likely I'll fall asleep. Might sit down a minute." He slowly moved back to the couch and curled up against the side of it, relaxing on the comfortable pillows and just resting his eyes. He'd intended to just relax, but soon fell asleep, draped over the arm of the couch and breathing deeply.
Kite nodded and hurried in putting things away before rushing into his room to change. When he returned, he found the boy out cold on the couch. Smiling with a soft sigh, he carefully moved the boy to a more comfortable position. Although in doing so, he caused the boy's phone to fall out of his pocket. He thought for a moment and decided to go ahead and call this Ryou person. When he heard the familiar voice of his Ryou on the other end, he was a little shocked. After hearing the second 'Choutarou?', Kite cleared his throat and proceeded to explain everything to Shishido Ryou.
"I swear to you, I will have him back home as soon as he wakes up. I don't want to risk him getting sick or something from his lack of sleep and I'm sure you don't want that as well. Don't worry. The moment he wakes up, I'll make sure he calls you. I swear. Goodbye." With that he hung up the phone. He was certain Shishido was worrying his head off now but it wouldn't kill him to worry. From the sounds of things, this Shishido Ryou wasn't that much different from his Ryou. Worrier and slow to trust someone he hadn't even met.
