Summar: Yuuta decides to head over and visit Ryoma at the library. There's much cuddling, talk about dying Ryoma's hair, potentially living together when Ryoma graduates, and Yuuta discovers that Ryoma has empathy.

Yuuta wasn't sure what he was thinking, but there he was, standing in the library on a Saturday night. Sigh, the things he did for his... uh, boyfriend? Yeah, he was still getting used to that. Anyway, dodging the tables littering the large expanse that was the library floor, Yuuta headed to the back where all the journals should be piled up. Peeking past a shelf, Yuuta peered around and easily caught sight of a mop of white hair, just peeking over the top of some books.

All right, so maaaaybe some library time wouldn't be so bad after all; just the sight of Ryoma made him smile for some reason.

"Careful. All those books could swallow you up."

Ryoma felt Yuuta enter the library, but figured the other would find him soon enough without any help - "the back" could really only mean one place, after all, but he had to bite his lip to keep from grinning as the other approached. He couldn't exactly explain it, but having some company, which was usually exactly what he did not want, wasn't such a bad concept right now. Maybe it was just who the company was. Or something.

He glanced up over the stack of books he'd piled on the table, trying to keep a level face. "Well, you're pretty good at fishing. F'you didn't let the couch eat me, I should be safe, right?"

Yuuta rolled his eyes for the show of it, but he couldn't wipe that smile off his own face as he approached. "Seriously. And you're lucky I brought your bait." He pulled out a can of grape Ponta from behind him, and in his other hand was a bag of gummy worms. Not exactly healthy stuff, but it was all that Yuuta could rummage up under such short notice.

Ryoma couldn't help an amused snicker at the (appropriate, then) snack - he hooked one ankle around a nearby chair and pulled it over closer so Yuuta could sit. "I see you were plannin' t'go fishing," he said, shoving his notebook out of the way. Work could wait. He wasn't exactly hungry, but he wasn't exactly not. There was always room for Ponta and a few gummy worms - especially when the books were boring enough to put him to sleep. "S'lucky f'r me," he said by way of thanks, this time letting a bit of the smile through.

"Very lucky. Never know when I'm gonna lose you though. Because, yanno, you're so small," he grinned teasingly as sauntered over and sat next to Ryoma. And because he was suddenly in a good mood, Yuuta leaned in closer and pecked Ryoma on the cheek.

Ryoma wrinkled his nose at that - "I am not," he protested - he hadn't been "small" since at least last year. His growth spurt might've been late, but it hadn't been absent, thankfully. "An' I won't be f'you keep tryin' to feed me," he added... but he really did appreciate the effort, he supposed. It wasn't his fault he wasn't ever hungry - or that he was too tired to eat half the time. The face he was making disappeared at the quick kiss though - the smile turned a little more genuine, and he opened the can of Ponta and took a swig before leaning over shoulder-to-shoulder and offering it to Yuuta.

"Nah, if I keep trying to feed you this crap, I'll probably stunt your growth instead," Yuuta said with a soft laugh, accepting the can of Ponta and taking a sip himself. As Ryoma leaned against him, Yuuta swung his arm around Ryoma's shoulders, bringing him closer against him. "Of course, I've been plannin' that all along... can't have you be taller than me."

Ryoma snickered and grabbed the can of Ponta back to take another drink. "S'just coffee that stunts your growth... think I'm done growin' though. You're safe. Prolly." He hadn't put on any height for a couple of months now - the doctors down in medlab figured he was as tall as he was going to get. It was better than spending life stuck at 151cm, but in Ryoma's opinion he could've done with being a little taller... He grinned a bit mischeviously, glancing over at Yuuta as he settled against him. "Could make myself look taller though... What'd you do f'I was taller?"

Yuuta gave his boyfriend an unamused look. "Probably cut off your shins." But then he grinned back, lightly drumming his fingers on Ryoma's shoulder. "If you did that though, wouldn't I be missing you every time I try to kiss ya?"

Ryoma snickered again, rolling his eyes at both ideas. "Well, only 'till you got used to it." He gave into the impulse to press a quick kiss just beneath Yuuta's ear; it was stupid, really, the way kissing someone else could make you feel nice, but it still seemed to work. "You'd haveta get used to it eventutally, right?"

"Meh, probably," Yuuta finally consented, smiling a bit at the show of affection. "But I like the way you are. And not just 'cause I'm taller." Not that he was really that much taller, but the thought still held; he wouldn't have Ryoma any other way, as mushy as that sounded.

Ryoma grinned at the answer, though he sighed again after a moment. "I dunno - I'd like my hair back." Maybe it was vain, but it had been bothering him lately.

"It's not that bad," Yuuta said, twirling his finger lightly into the white strands. "Was kinda weird at first but we all got used to it, obviously."

"Heh... well at least it didn't fall out or something. But s'kinda hard to... y'know. Pretend I'm normal like this." Granted, it was pretty impossible to pretend he was normal, well, ever. But it was a nice thought sometimes. "Could make it look black, but it'd take too much concentration." He sighed but left that subject there - Yuuta hadn't exactly come down to the library to listen to Ryoma complain about his hair, he was sure. "S'not important." He settled a little closer, slipping one arm around Yuuta's waist.

"Sure seems important enough for you to mention it," Yuuta murmured, stroking his hair. "Why don't you dye it? Shouldn't be too hard," he suggested, glancing over.

Ryoma nodded a bit; "Thought about it... s'just a lotta work too. It'd grow in white an' look stupid f'I didn't redo it every coupla weeks." He couldn't help a bit of a laugh - that sounded like a stupid excuse. "Everything seems like a lotta work, mosta the time. S'stupid, anyway." He wasn't tired (well okay he was. but not enough to go to sleep), but it was nice to have someone to lean against.

Yuuta shrugged slightly, careful not to disturb Ryoma too much. "I can help you, if you want. Would probably be easier to have someone do it for you anyhow." Granted, he'd never done anything like dye and style anyone's hair before, but it shouldn't be too difficult, right? Yuuta scooted in closer to Ryoma and kissed his cheek lightly. "I wouldn't mind helping."

Ryoma glanced up a bit at that. "Really? Maybe... 'Least you'd know f'you missed a spot, right?" The idea of help somehow made a dye job sound much easier, though. "... Unless you just wanna dye a pattern into it without telling me," he joked.

Yuuta laughed. "Maybe you shouldn't be giving me ideas," he said, nudging the other mutant. But the thought of doing a pattern of his name on the back of Ryoma's head did amuse him quite a bit. But that'd give everything away... which reminded him of something.

"Oh, uh... we might have a little problem. I think my brother sorta knows about us..."

Ryoma just grinned a bit - he was pretty sure his hair would be safe with Yuuta. But the grin faded a bit as he glanced up - that was... maybe not so good. Even if Yuuta had said he didn't believe all the shit Fuji'd been saying about Ryoma... well that didn't change the fact that it was pretty clear what Fuji thought of him. "... Is he pissed?"

"Actually... no, not really. At least, he said that you were okay." The answer from his brother surprised Yuuta, but that didn't mean it wasn't good news, sorta. "I guess his opinion changed when you helped him rescue Taki."

"... Huh." Ryoma thought about that a moment. "Well... he did say he'd stop sayin' crap f'I helped him... S'not why I did it though." That would have been just plain stupid. Taki was all right - Ryoma hadn't wanted anything to happen to him, whether he got along with Fuji or not. "S'he okay now?" He'd... kind of left Fuji to the doctors at the medlab. And hadn't really spoken to him since.

"...He said that? Well, I guess if he promised that, he wouldn't be saying anything about you at all... so it must've really meant something to him when you helped." The way Yuuta figured it, his brother wouldn't be handing out compliments to anyone just because he felt like it, especially Ryoma. "But he's doing okay. He said someone knifed him, so he's got a sling now..." Just the thought of his brother injured made Yuuta frown a bit; he was still a little irritated that he wasn't taken along on the mission-- he was sure that he could've covered Fuji's back.

"Either that or he was just so desperate he didn't care that it was me comin' along," Ryoma said quietly, not looking up for a minute. "S'more like the crazy guy threw a knife at him - I didn't think he'd recover so fast from bein' blinded. Shoulda done something else." But no, the freaking crazy had to either recover faster than he shoudl've - or he'd just thrown the knife and gotten lucky. Either way, it didn't change the fact that assuming he'd done enough hadn't... turned out favorably in the end.

Yuuta sighed. "It sucks you didn't take me, but you guys did the best you could. You shouldn't beat yourself up over it." He touched Ryoma's chin, tilting it up so he'd be looking at him. "My brother'll be okay."

Ryoma sighed, but nodded a little. "Yeah... figured he'd be fine. S'just... it sucks. Just 'cause I c'n do... whatever doesn't mean it's enough, s'all." He made a face. "Well m'not planning on any more rescue missions. But I'll let you know f'your brother comes up with any more. I'd just as soon stay here."

Yuuta nodded slightly. "You're just one person, so yeah, don't beat yourself up over it, okay? But thanks. For helping him out." He smiled appreciatively and lightly kissed his boyfriend's lips. "I'd rather have you help him than anyone else."

The face Ryoma was making didn't last long under Yuuta's kiss, however brief. "Yeah... well, guess that's where you're different from him," he said, grinning just a little. "Guess that's why I like you better'n him, maybe." The fingers around Yuuta's waist curled into his shirt a little, and Ryoma shifted up to give Yuuta a kiss of his own. "S'not the only reason though."

Yuuta's gaze softened as he was kissed, and he returned the action, deepening the kiss just a bit. "What other reasons?" he couldn't help but wonder aloud, murmuring against Ryoma.

Ryoma grinned a little wider now; "You just like hearin' why you're so great," he said, blinking open eyes that had falled shut. He shifted enough to face Yuuta a little better, wrapping his other arm around his waist. "You treat me nice," he said simply - it might've sounded simple, anyway, but it was a lot more than that. "An' you're warm," he chuckled softly, rocking forward for another soft kiss.

Yuuta chuckled into the kiss, both arms now settled over Ryoma's shoulders, holding him close. **Only two reasons?** he wondered to himself. "There's gotta be more to it than that," he guessed between kisses.

**Well d'you really want 'em all?** Ryoma asked, not willing to break a kiss over the question when he didn't have to. **I'd sound like some stupid poet or somethin', listing off reasons an' you'd just laugh at me.** Treating him nicely was pretty much the embodiment of it, anyway. "You're not bad t'look at, I suppose," he added out loud, once they'd broken apart again. And having someone to be close to... really was nice. Ryoma hadn't realized how lonely he was until he suddenly hadn't been anymore. It sounded stupid when he thought about it that way, though.

"I wouldn't laugh," Yuuta said, sounding a little indignant. **Out loud, that is.** And he smirked at Ryoma before touching his face again. "But you're not too bad yourself. You're fun to be around, you don't take shit from me, and well..." he paused, thinking for a moment. "I like seeing ya a little happy, I guess." And Yuuta glanced downward, feeling a little stupid for saying something so mushy like that-- Ryoma was always sitting alone by himself, looking so unhappy. Yuuta was already kicking himself for not doing something sooner-- at least sit with him at lunch or whatever. Small things like that.

"I'd hear you anyway," Ryoma replied, but then he paused, studying Yuuta a moment. He could tell the other felt... bad, was what it felt like. For not doing something sooner? "Hey -" He frowned, biting his lip another moment in thought. Finally, though, he shifted again - from his chair into Yuuta's lap, wrapping his arms around the other's neck and resting a cheek against his shoulder. It was stupid to try and say what he was thinking in words; he carefully let just a bit of it out so the other could feel it - he liked Yuuta - and liked being close to him and liked talking to him and hell, even liked shoving him around when they got stupid.

Yuuta... wasn't quite sure what he was feeling. They weren't his own... maybe? He'd never think about himself like that, so they couldn't be his. Were they Ryoma's? That warm, almost bubbling feeling. And Yuuta couldn't help but genuinely smile, wrapping his arms tightly around the other's waist. With a soft sigh, he closed his eyes, relief washing over him, ebbing away that tiny part that felt a little guilty. "You're making me feel all mushy," Yuuta murmured, stroking his back affectionately.

"Hmm," Ryoma hummed contentedly - that single motion seemed like it could pretty much make anything better. He grinned a little, despite himself; "You started it," he accused, murmuring against Yuuta's shoulder. He could feel that the other was relieved, though, and that made it worth it. It wasn't anybody's fault Ryoma had been alone except his own. And he'd deserved it. But at the moment he didn't care what he deserved. He didn't want Yuuta to go away, as simple as that. "S'good you don't feel guilty anymore though." He brushed a few fingertips along the back of Yuuta's neck, as though in reward.

"...You knew?" Yuuta asked, the feeling of guilt and perhaps a bit of shame resurfacing; Ryoma wasn't supposed to know. "Those were your feelings I felt. And you can do the same with mine..." he stated the obvious out loud, frowning just a bit. "Guess I can't do any lying to you, huh?" he said jokingly, but his feelings were still unsure about this new discovery-- it could be potentially embarrassing or worse.

Ryoma frowned, feeling guilty himself. "... No, s'my fault. I'll shield," he said quietly, doing just that - it wasn't fair at all to pull something like that. Just because he could didn't mean he should - and screw it all, he should know better. "Fuck... I didn't mean to. I keep doin' that." It happened with frightening ease, the way he'd just... started using powers without even thinking about it. It wasn't right, and he didn't like doing it. And prying into someone's privacy like that was wrong no matter which way you looked at it. "... Won't do it again."

Crap, he got him upset. And he probably felt or heard all that was in his head, too. Yuuta frowned, hugging Ryoma close. "Nah, it's okay. Just sorta caught me off guard, you know?" He rubbed his back in hopes of soothing his boyfriend, if only just a little. "I'm not mad or anything."

"Yeah, well... still shouldn't. S'not very fair, when you can't. You gotta have some stuff you keep to yourself." Ryoma still felt bad, but if Yuuta said he wasn't mad... then he wasn't mad. "I'm not doin' it now; like I said, though. I'll shield. I just... never had to, before." He'd just never spent long enough around anyone whose thoughts he cared to hear to not intentionally block them out.

"Meh, I said it's okay. Don't worry about it." And to prove his point, Yuuta pressed a kiss to the top of his head. "So you can hear everyone's thoughts and feel what they feel?" he asked curiously.

Ryoma sighed, but nodded in response to the question. "Yeah... well I mean, I mostly shield it out. I don't usually wanna hear what the rest a'the world's thinkin' an' stuff. Would you?"

Yuuta shrugged. "Can see how it could get annoying sometimes. And sometimes there are things you probably wouldn't wanna hear about anyway. But... that's kinda a cool power," he smiled. "If I had that, I'd know what would piss someone off, right?"

"Heh... guess so. " Ryoma paused thoughtfully, fingers tracing a little lower down the other's back. "You're lucky t'have just one, though. S'a good one too, y'know. S'not so hard to control, once you got the right idea." Powers like that seemed far and few between, most of the time.

"You think so? It's easy to light stuff on fire, but it took a while for me to learn how to, yanno, control fire and shit like that." And Yuuta nearly gave up on the whole familiar thing, which was really just molding the flames into a shape... but it was damn hard to keep up. "But I guess all that training sensei made us do was worth it, in a way."

"Well s'better than a lotta other ones." Ryoma shrugged - besides, Yuuta with any other power just seemed weird. "An' yeah, I guess he does know what he's doing sometimes... but he's an ass f'r not lettin' you on the team." Ryoma frowned, remembering how he'd distinctly not gotten an answer the one time he'd asked. "He's either got a stupid reason, or he's just stupid."

"I have a feeling it's a stupid reason, 'cause he's given me a bunch already," Yuuta sighed, also reminded of his predicament concerning X-Prime. "I'm not sure what's up with him."

"Yeah... he wouldn't just keep tellin' you no f'he was bein' stubborn or something. I dunno." Ryoma frowned and shifted on Yuuta's lap, settling against him a little more comfortably, hands slipping down around his waist. "I don't get him. Gonna be glad t'leave next year." It still seemed too far away... but only one more year and he could stop freaking training. And start freaking sleeping.

Yuuta nodded slightly. "Yeah, that's pretty cool. I wonder what 'm gonna do next year. You know, if I don't get on the team." He paused, then glanced down at Ryoma. "On second thought, it doesn't look like it's gonna even happen," he frowned, feeling faintly angry. "Gonna have to find something else to do. I can't stay here all my freaking life."

Ryoma was silent a moment, thinking. Finally, though, he said what he'd wanted to say before he'd thought about it anyway, speaking quietly. "... You could come with me. I mean... m'just gonna get an apartment somewhere. A roommate might not be so bad, though."

Yuuta paused, blinking at Ryoma, surprised at the offer. "Roommate...?" But his surprised look shifted into a small smirk. "Y'sure we won't kill each other?"

Ryoma shrugged a little, grinning a bit himself. "Well... I mean, f'we haven't killed each other by next year, s'not as likely that livin' in the same apartment'll be any worse, right? You don't gotta... it was just an idea. I dunno f'it'd be any better than you stayin' here, anyway."

"Oh, I'm sure it'll be tons better," he smiled. "Won't have to train or deal with sensei anymore." And he'd be close to Ryoma, which was fine by him. "I wouldn't mind rooming with you," Yuuta then confirmed, giving his boyfriend a small nudge.

Ryoma grinned a little wider, and nodded. "Heh. Then the offer's there, f'you wanna take me up on it in a year." All he had to do was make it through one more year. He could do that. But it would be so much easier with a nap... Ryoma settled against Yuuta's shoulder yawning and wrapping his arms around the other's middle just a little tighter. "Hope y'won't mind wakin' me up in ten minutes either," he said quietly. Maybe if he didn't phrase it as a question, Yuuta'd be less likely to refuse.

Not that Yuuta was going to refuse him anything like a nap-- he understood the importance of sleep, after all! "Ten minutes? I can do that," he said, gaze softening just a little. "Still got that stupid report to do."

Ryoma sighed, but nodded just a little. "Yeah... still got tomorrow to work on it." Ten minutes won't be enough, but it's better than nothing before he has to get back to work. He yawns again and closes his eyes. "You don't gotta stay after that f'you don't want..."

"Don't got anything else to do, so I might as well stick around." He poked at Ryoma's shoulder. "Hurry up and nap so I'm not waiting forever."

"M'goin', m'goin'..." Ryoma chuckled tiredly, but soon his amused expression slipped into neutrality as he fell asleep not half a minute later, arms going limp around Yuuta's middle.
