Dated: Last weekend, most likely Saturday.
Setting: What starts as an innocent outing has a sudden twist, which prompts another power upgrade for Oishi.

"Anybody thirsty?," Oishi asked, staring back at the three younger teens (his sister, Kaidoh, and Kaidoh's younger brother Hazue) who were walking next to him. It looked this spring would be warmer than other years, and the heat in the air constantly reminded them of such a thing... Lucky for them, there was a big drink vending machine not too far from the four kids, so getting something cold and fresh would be cakewalk.

"Uh huh. Me, Syuu-nii!," Natsuki said quickly, raising a hand and then staring at her boyfriend. Hazue stared back and then shook his head, telling him he didn't need anything to drink for that moment.

"And you, Kaidoh?," he asked, staring at the older boy who had come with them, armed (sort-of) with his image inducer to hide the bones sticking out of his body. "You want a drink?"

Kaidoh thought a moment, then nodded a little, fishing in his pocket for money so that Oishi wouldn't have to pay for both drinks. He handed over his change, giving the other a smile in thanks. "Yes, please. Um, whatever you're having." He didn't mind, so long as it was cold; the air was warm for spring, and it was clear it wouldn't be spring much longer.

He watched and waited with his brother and Oishi's sister as the older boy went off to buy their drinks, unable to help glancing down at Hazue and Natsuki for a moment. He actually liked going out with his little brother; when Oishi'd asked him along for this afternoon, he'd wanted to come as nothing more than a brother, not a chaperone. Hazue and Natsuki didn't need chaperoning, but at least they didn't seem to mind having their older brothers along for a trip to the movies.

Oishi got the money that Kaidoh handed him, then he and Natsuki headed towards the vending machine. Slipping some coins inside, the healer stared at the panel showing all the options. "Calpis... Pocari... Ponta... Coke... Juice..."

"One Pocari for me, Syuu-nii, please?," Natsuki said. Oishi nodded quietly and got a can of cold Pocari for her; after he got it for her, she thanked him sweetly and went towards Hazue. Oishi himself stayed there, pondering if he should choose a simple fruit juice (and *which* one; orange, pineapple, strawberry) or a cold green tea. And there was Kaidoh's own beverage, too; he had said he'd be okay with whatever Oishi wanted, though...

Finally purchasing two peach juices, Oishi got them from the vending machine. But when he was getting ready to put his own can in his pocket and then go give the other to Kaidoh, he heard screeching noises and screams coming not too far from them.

"What...?"

The next thing he knew, a car crash happened right in the crossroads located not too far from the bus stop and the vending machine.

It all happened so quickly. One moment Kaidoh was standing on the sidewalk with Hazue and Natsuki, and the next, a car came skidding around the corner nearby and slammed into the car stopped at the light. Kaidoh barely had time to blink before the two cars crumpled into one another - and then everything stopped, as people turned to see what had happened not ten meters away from the spot in which they were standing.

Kaidoh couldn't tell if the people in either car were all right - there wasn't any movement from within them, but they might be trapped or unconscious or just not able to move yet. Kaidoh glanced nervously between his brother and Oishi-san, then back to the cars; he was pretty strong, maybe he should help - and Oishi was a healer, he could certainly help, if someone were hurt. Kaidoh took a step towards the cars, glancing at his brother and Natsuki. "Stay put - "

"But Kaidoh-san...!" Natsuki, always hot-headed, wanted to go there too. However, Oishi quickly turned towards her.

"Stay put, Natsuki," he ordered his sister, but then he had an idea. He quickly pulled out his cellphone and put it in the girl's trembling hands. "I need you and Hazue to call the clinic people if things go real ugly. Don't fail me in this, please."

She looked at him a little angrily for being left out, but then her hands tightened around the phone and nodded. Oishi smiled reassuringly at her and Hazue, and quickly said "I'll be right back, I hope" before he followed Kaidoh and went towards the cars. He had to help the people involved, make sure the ones already helping out were doing it right, maybe see if he could use his healing powers in addition to his first aid skills...

Hazue didn't outwardly protest, but the look he gave Kaidoh said that he wanted to help as well - but Hazue wasn't even a mutant (thank God) and he had a higher chance of getting hurt. In fact, even if Hazue had been a mutant, Kaidoh didn't think he'd be any more likely to let him go. It was too dangerous.

Nodding to Oishi-san, Kaidoh approached the two crumpled cars - no one else seemed to want to get close, though a few people had stopped to watch. He could see now that at least one of the drivers was awake and moving, tugging at the door - which seemed to be stuck. Well, there was one way to get it open - grimacing, Kaidoh reached down to where he knew a larger piece of bone stuck out from his forearm. Giving it a quick yank, he pulled it free (which probably looked awfully strange to anyone else, as it would have looked like the bone appeared from nowhere) and tried to wedge it in between the door and the body of the car - he'd pried open doors like this before, but never a car door... at least, he thought, the bone wouldn't break. The driver watched, blinking at him, as though wondering what was going on. Kaidoh hoped they were all right - and not frightened of him.

Almost at the same time, Oishi had reached the other car. The driver was a girl not much older than himself, who also didn't seem to be ultra seriously injured (at least from what he could see), but he still had to get her out and properly check on her.

It also seemed that Kaidoh's example had given others people some courage to actually do something and not just stare agape. When Oishi tried to help the woman to open the door, a construction worker from the building in the works located very close to them was coming to them, bringing a slender metal bar. Using it as a lever, they managed to open the door, and soon they were pulling the woman out as carefully as they could.

"I'm a medicine student, let me check on her," he told the man. The worker nodded and placed her on the ground so Oishi could examine her. Weak pulse, blood loss from an open injury on her forehead...

"Can you hear me?," he asked her, taking the young woman's hand. She stared at him vaguely and squeezed his hand just a little; that was a good signal, but they still had to contact the people of the clinic, and since this was a public place full of people he wasn't able to fully use his powers.

Still holding the girl's hand, Oishi decided to take a risk and carefully began to pump just some bits of healing energy into her body, enough to keep her a little more stable without others seeing the golden light that was his trademark as a healer....

"I called them already, Syuu-niichan! They're coming and will be here in 15 minutes!," a voice came from not too far. He turned towards the souce of the voice; yes, his sister was standing at some distance with his cellphone in her hands, and Hazue was next to her. Good. But Oishi had a bad feeling about what would come next...

Kaidoh watched as a construction worked came to help Oishi-san open the other car; then he had to focus on getting the door in front of him open. It didn't take long - just a little more force and it came free, and Kaidoh tossed the piece of bone under the car before helping helped the young man behind the wheel out of the car. He seemed dazed, and was eyeing Kaidoh more than a little warily, but he didn't seem too hurt. "I'm here to help," he told the confused driver quietly, and after a moment of wary consideration, the man let Kaidoh help him out of the car.

Helping him to walk carefully a meter or two away from the cars, Kaidoh glanced around for Oishi - he was no healer, but the other was, and even if this man seemed fine, it was best to have someone look over him.

But just as they took another step, there was a sound, and just as Kaidoh glanced back, he saw the back of the car that he'd just pulled the driver from erupt into flame - and it sounded like it was going to do more than that, any second now. If the gas tank was starting to burn, it wasn't going to be long before it exploded - Kaidoh pulled the man around before him, pushing him away, trying to make sure he was between the driver and the car. But Oishi was still nearby, and Hazue, and Natsuki. He had to get everyone away. "E-everyone, move!"

Eyes going wide, Oishi almost panicked at that. An explosion, just what could do everything even worse... But as he always did when nervous, he bit his lip and tried to think of something to move the injured woman more or less safely...

The answer came when a second construction worker made his way there, bringing another metal pipe. Oishi stared at the man, and as his patient of sorts squeezed his hand a little more, he took a decision.

"Lend us your long-sleeved jackets, everyone! And the pipes! We can build a stretcher!"

Soon, it was done, and with Oishi's guidance they scooped the injured girl on it. Natsuki took off her short-sleeved jacket (Hazue and Oishi had used their own to build the stretcher) and covered the woman with it.

"They should be here soon...," she murmured. Oishi nodded back at her as the two workers started to move the stretcher away and he stood not too far from them, his back towards the burning cars, still trying to direct the action until the ambulances were there and Kousaka-san's team (Kousaka was the ambulance driver who was staying tonight at the clinic, and his telekinetic powers would be invaluable) could take full control...

Kaidoh worked on helping the man to safety, as Oishi-san and some of the construction workers fashioned a makeshift stretcher for the other driver. He kept glancing nervously back - they might not have much time, and he didn't want anyone near those cars if they exploded. He finally stopped at the curb a good number of meters away from the cars, helping the man to sit down on the sidewalk as Hazue came over, glancing up at his brother before looking down at the man.

"You should get farther away - " Kaidoh started to say, when suddenly chaos erupted - the tank on the car finally blew with a deafening noise, and Kaidoh only had a split second to realize it and try to move between the eruption and the driver - and his little brother. He saw Hazue's eyes grow wide a split second before he felt heat - and then something slammed into his back. Kaidoh didn't know what it was, but it hurt, and he blinked dazedly as his legs gave way; Hazue was yelling something, and the driver was staring at him open-mouthed, but Kaidoh couldn't hear much. He hit the ground, realizing slowly that the image inducer had been damaged - probably why the man was staring at him. But the only thing he could really think about was how much he hurt - and how much he wished his healing factor would do something about that. And soon.

Once the heat subdued a little and he was able to think straight, Oishi opened his eyes and tried to recall just what the Hell happened. His back hurt, the heat in the air was MUCH higher as a whole, his ears were ringing with the noise and the screaming. And one of these persons yelling and panicking was his sister, who already was crying in hysterics.

"Syuu-nii! Kaidoh-san and Hazue-kun need help! Please...!"

One glance in Kaidoh and Hazue's direction was enough to make him gasp in horror.

"Please keep her safe until the ambulance comes," he told the workers (luckily the side where they were was somewhat less affected by the explosion itself) and rushed towards his friends' side. Hazue seemed to not have any serious injuries, and the same went to the man next to him, but Kaidoh... oh, damn. Not only his cover was blown, but his injuries were the most serious ones out of everyone.

"I'll take care of him," he said, ignoring the dumbfounded look on the driver's face. Not caring about anything else but his sister and the Kaidoh brothers's safety, he and the other two kids started to pull Kaidoh away from the others, who luckily were too busy tending to themselves or the drivers to notice them.

Kaidoh felt about ready to pass out as Oishi-san and Hazue started pulling him away from where he'd fallen, followed by Natsuki - but even though he wanted to just go to sleep and not wake up until he felt a hell of a lot better, he also felt wide awake and blinked dumbly he tried to get his legs to move and help, but it didn't work so well. His ears were still ringing - he could hear again, but he was having trouble making out what he was hearing. Hazue kept looking down and saying things, but Kaidoh was having trouble understanding him. Was he in shock? He couldn't really think straight enough to figure that out, but he was trying.

He must have gotten hit with something from the explosion - that was the only conclusion he could come to; at least, he mentally added, Hazue, Oishi, and Natsuki seemed all right. That was what mattered - and he'd be okay too, once his healing managed to kick in. Right?

But it still hurt an awful lot. And then some; starting to get dizzy as he was pulled along, Kaidoh closed his eyes, hoping that if he just thought about breathing in and out, it might distract him from how much absolutely everything hurt.

"Look there, Oishi-san," Hazue suddenly said. "There's a small empty corner some feet ahead, we might be able to hide Aniki there..."

Healing. It was still risky to use his powers at full capacity. But Kaidoh's injuries were *extremely* serious, judging by his slow reflexes and how he was losing blood. Kaidoh's healing factor surely wasn't enough to keep him safe, and Oishi wouldn't even think of letting him go into medical shock.

"Okay. Please cover me up so I can heal him."

They reached the corner and immediately after that Oishi forced Kaidoh to lay on his stomach, trying to assess how serious the situation was. Natsuki and Hazue surrounded them, blocking any possible witnesses from sight, and trying to see if Kousaka's ambulance was anywhere on sight.

This looks bad... possible second to third degree burns, blood loss, and that metal shard on his back... I know Kousaka-san is gonna bitch about it but can't afford to wait, I'll have to pull that out or I won't be able to properly heal him.

Oishi steeled himself and grabbed the piece of metal that was pretty much impaled on Kaidoh's back. "Don't look if you can't handle it," he told the younger kids, and using both hands he pulled it out. Kaidoh's whole body shuddered, and Oishi knew that such an action had caused Kaidoh an enormous pain, yet he bit his lip again to not start crying or screaming; Natsuki had covered her face with her hands and Hazue had looked away, and that was hard enough.

"Be patient, Kaidoh... I'll clean up a bit and I'll heal you...," he murmured as he used his own handkerchief to wipe a little of the blood away. After that, he sighed and placed his hands on Kaidoh's back, summonng his healing powers; a soft golden glow surrounded them and started extending to the injured areas of Kaidoh's body.

Oishi could've sworn that Kaidoh's bone growths were bulkier, now that he could see them clearly, but he had no time to think about it - all that mattered was healing his friend, the person he once was barely able to keep alive yet not protect from the government scientists...

Lying on his stomach wasn't so bad, Kaidoh thought - of everything that hurt, at least that hurt the least. He couldn't see much from here - Oishi-san and the younger kids had dragged him around a corner, and there wasn't anyone here. Unfortunately, that meant Kaidoh had nothing to concentrate on except the sidewalk under his nose as Oishi gave a sharp yank behind him - that hurt more than anything had ever hurt in Kaidoh's entire life. It was very, very hard not to yell, but he didn't want to in front of Hazue. He had to be strong... Hazue had to know it would be all right...

But now Kaidoh really hurt, and his mind began to fog over and all he could feel was pain; keeping his eyes open was a struggle, but he was determined to win. But slowly, slowly, something began to soothe the burns on his back. He didn't know what was happening, or what Oishi-san was doing, but it was helping, and he couldn't help the small sigh of relief as the pain began to very slowly, bit by bit, recede into something that wasn't nothing, but definitely more manageable.

"Oishi... san?" he finally managed to ask; it was still hard to speak, but getting easier. He didn't want Oishi to overtire himself - if he could only just keep going a little longer, Kaidoh's healing would take over, he was sure.

"Don't talk," Oishi murmured. "I'm taking care of this, Kaidoh. Save your energies, it's my turn to help now."

Pouring more willpower and focus on the golden aura that was healing both the open wound and the burns on Kaidoh's back, Oishi did his best to use his power on him. It wasn't the first time, of course, but this one was critical... he had healed Kaidoh (and Rin) formerly at the labs and under surveillance of the same who used them in experiments, apparently without intention to let them die unless Oishi rebelled against them. Here, however, only the shaky cover offered by two children was shielding them from being attacked by anyone... it could be the construction workers, the bystanders, the police...

And then, he noticed that his golden aura was starting to fade away, since Oishi was at the limit of his physical capacity. No, not right then, not when he needed his powers the most... no...

Kaidoh fell silent at the command, even though he wanted to protest - he only needed a little help, Oishi should go see if other people were hurt. Kaidoh certainly hoped no one else hurt like this. It might be getting better, but that didn't mean he was ready to get up and do much of anything right now. He finally settled for lying still, trying to concentrate on his breathing once more, and wait for Oishi to finish.

Too soon, it felt like the power soothing his burned skin was starting to recede. Kaidoh told himself it was good that Oishi was stopping now, to conserve his power - he'd need it for the people outside, after all. Even if Kaidoh still felt like he wanted to die. He risked speaking again, still forcing the words out through gritted teeth. "I'll be... okay... thanks...."

"No... I can't stop...," Oishi murmured as he closed his eyes, heroically (or foolishly, others would say) trying to keep his fatigue at bay. Mariko-sensei and the other clinic staff weren't there to stop him, also; without their guidance, Oishi felt that he *had* to save Kaidoh at all costs, since he was the one more severely wounded in the place and Oishi himself felt he had a debt with the youth he wasn't able to protect.

But at a certain moment, Oishi felt the most intense pain he had ever experienced in his life. The skin on his back had felt hotter from some moments before Oishi noticed his powers losing strength, but right then, his whole back felt like it was burning, the pain becoming more and more intense as seconds passed.

But right after Kaidoh had said it was okay, Oishi almost fainted after the pain hit him hard. He vaguely heard his sister and Hazue screaming that he had started bleeding all of a sudden and his aura had changed. So, he slowly opened his eyes, biting his lip to not start yelling in pain...

And Oishi saw that the golden healing aura had turned into a brilliant sapphire blue.

Kaidoh was about to protest again - Oish-san *had* to stop, he was starting to sound exhausted - when suddenly, in a rush... everything felt better. He blinked, cautiously sitting up, just as Natsuki screamed something and Hazue's mouth dropped open. Oishi-san was sitting slumped behind him, glowing a faint residual blue - and bleeding pretty badly from an open wound on his burned back.

Kaidoh only stared in shock a moment - he had no idea what had happened at all, but he felt fine and Oishi-san was not - he scrambled to pull Oishi into a more comfortable position, making sure none of his bone growths (... which were heavier than before, dammit) were scraping the older boy. He opened his mouth to ask just what Oishi had done when he heard a familiar -and very welcome - sound from around the corner.

"The ambulance is here!" Hazue called, right on Natsuki's heels as the girl sprinted over to her brother. Kaidoh wanted to tell her it would be okay - but he had no idea what had happened. As she fussed over her brother, he glanced up at Hazue, who was looking pale and confused, but otherwise all right.

"Can you go get them? Bring them here - I don't want to move him," Kaidoh asked - he didn't know anything about medicine, or how to move an injured person. "Tell them to hurry!"

Hazue nodded and was gone, running around the corner to bring the paramedics here. "It'll be okay..." Kaidoh whispered, not sure if he was talking to Natsuki or Oishi or both. But he hoped he'd be right - Oishi had saved him, somehow. He had to get better so Kaidoh could thank him!

Kaidoh seemed to be fine. That was good, or so Oishi thought once he could think a little more clearly. But he was still in so much pain, and everything was fuzzier as seconds passed...

Oishi vaguely nodded at Kaidoh, closing his eyes again immediately after that. He wanted to stay conscious anbd not worry his friends anymore, but it was hard. He could hear his sister sobbing, the people fussing around them, and later the voices of Hazue and another person.

"Oishi-kun? You hear me?," the other voice spoke. Yes, he knew that man... "It's me, Kousaka. We'll scoop you up on a stretcher. Mariko-sensei is at the clinic and she'll heal you and the others. We'll see the rest later."

Oishi opened his eyes and nodded, then allowed Kousaka to help him. He then stared at Kaidoh, Hazue and his sister, smiling. "I'll be fine...," he murmured and then closed his eyes again, trying to save his last reserves of energy.

Kaidoh glanced up as Hazue returned with a paramedic in tow - he seemed to know Oishi-san, and Kaidoh slid out from beneath the older boy to let the medic work. After a quick glance, the man instructed Kaidoh and Hazue to help him place Oishi on a stretcher - they were going to bring him and the other injured to the clinic so they could be properly cared for.

Kaidoh nodded, and took a position close to Oishi-san's head, determined to be as careful as possible. He wanted to ask the man if he knew what had happened - how Oishi-san had healed him, only to become injured himself - but now was definitely not the time. He'd ask him - or Mariko-sensei - later. Right now, they had to get Oishi and the other injured people the help they needed. There would be plenty of time for questions (and calling Ken and his parents) later.
