RP Log: Dan & Akutsu
Apr. 8th, 2007 12:18 amDate: Uh... Current-ish, I think. :D;; Basically anytime in the very recent past/future when Dan and Akutsu could have disappeared for two or three days.

Summary: Akutsu gets wind of a military base he wants to check out, and Dan decides he's coming with. :D;
"Yo, kid." Akutsu leaned up against Dan's doorway, hands jammed into his pockets. "You look bored as shit." Not that he wasn't bored as well. In fact...he was making some impromptu plans. That bitch Shiiba hadn't contacted him with anything for a couple of weeks now. And he was sick of waiting. He knew there was a military base not too far...it would only take him a couple of days or more to go check it out. But he figured he might as well let the kid know he was heading out for awhile so he didn't freak out or something.
"I'm gonna head out for a couple days", he said around his cigarette. "You okay to stay here and keep your ass outta trouble?"
Dan had previously been reading a book... but he'd gotten tired of looking at the pages, and had set it aside, flopping over on his bed and counting the irregularities in the ceiling. He was bored - but he blinked as he heard Akutsu-san speak, twisting around a little to see the older boy leaning against the doorframe. Gone? Days? Dan frowned a little, wondering if it was bad or good or dangerous. He wanted Akutsu-san to come back and keep him company soon. If he left... Dan really would be pretty much alone here. With nothing to do.
But... wait! Maybe he could come with! Akutsu-san might want company, after all. And if it was dangerous... well, that was all the more reason to go, right? "Where're you going?" he asked, twisting onto his stomach now, so he could face the door and Akutsu-san. "I am bored. Can I come too?"
"Out." Akutsu sucked in a lungful of smoke and let it out slow, eyes narrowing at the younger boy through the hazy cloud. Well shit. He didn't need the kid following him and getting caught. "You kidding? Ain't gonna be fun and games where I'm going, Kid. Checking out a place."
But the look on Dan's face wasn't convincing him that the kid would stay the hell put. Fuck. "...You go, you listen to every damn word I say. You don't go running off or doing some stupid shit that'll get you caught", he warned.
Dan frowned at first - he didn't expect it to be fun and games! He wasn't stupid! But then after a moment, Akutsu-san seemed to change his mind - and Dan broke into a grin, nodding and sitting up properly, pulling his legs beneath him. "Okay! I won't do anything - I swear. I don't wanna get caught again." Akutsu-san should know that! The last thing Dan wanted was to be a prisoner again - or to get one of his only friends caught. He still didn't know where they were going, but his initial guess at 'dangerous' sounded like it might have been right. "I'll do everything you say," he said, more quietly. "Are we going now? Should I get the image inducer?" That was the first step - being green was not the best way to stay out of sight.
The lab-created mutant nodded, sucking in another lungful of smoke. "Better grab it. Don't need any fuckers trying to grab you on the way there. We're gonna make a couple of grab-n-go stops first." He had some things he needed. Binoculars, for one. And another knife, just in case. Plus he'd have to make sure the kid ate...this could take a couple of days, maybe more if he found anything worth going after right away.
"Okay." Dan marked his place in his book, then closed it and set it on the small bedtable before going to the closet and pulling out his jacket. He then went to the rickety set of drawers in his room and opening the top one, pulling the image inducer out and strapping it onto his wrist, keying in the proper sequence and waiting a moment as the device set itself up, then turned green. The illusion should be in place now. He turned, cocking his head at Akutsu. "Is it on?"
Well..wasn't that fucking nifty? The kid looked like any other human kid now, right down to the pale skin and dark eyes. It made Akutsu want to twitch though...shit was just an illusion, right? He hated shit like that, anything you couldn't really smell or taste or touch...if he wanted to be raped, he'd prefer something shoved up his ass to having anyone fuck with his mind. But it protected the kid, so he shrugged. "Yeah, its on. Gotta tell you though, Kid...you look a fuckload better green." The corner of his mouth turned up, and he shoved off the the doorway.
Dan blinked, but... that was... really nice of Akutsu-san to say, he thought, ducking his head to hide the wide smile (and the flushed cheeks) that comment elicited. Akutsu-san might not like to see that. He just shrugged, and kept his eyes down as he headed towards the door. "W-well... it's better this way so I can go outside. You lead. I'll keep quiet, I promise. You can count on me!"
Stubbing out his cigarette carefully so that he didn't start in on some damn coughing fit, Akutsu reached over as Dan approached and ruffled the kid's hair. Well shit...the kid must be growing on him or something. "Yeah yeah...lets not get mushy or anything, Kid. Let's just get the hell outta here."
Dan nodded, but he secretly thought that he liked it when Akutsu-san ruffled his hair. It felt nice, even if it just proved that he really was a kid, while the other was nearly an adult. But that wasn't important right now - he needed to be Akutsu-san's right-hand man! And keep him out of too much trouble. And obey orders. It was kind of like being in the army. Maybe!
"Okay," Dan agreed, trying his best not to be mushy, letting the other precede him since presumably Akutsu-san knew where he was going. "I don't think they'll miss me too much..." He didn't have any tests scheduled. And if they were gone too long he would contact Inui-san and tell him he couldn't make his tutoring session. And if he couldn't contact Inui-san, he'd apologize next week. It would be all right.
"Keep your head down", Akutsu growled, crouched between bushes no more than a yard away from the US military base. His eyes, aided by the binoculars thanks to Dan's proximity, tracked the guards passing by each time, silently timing it in his head when they changed shifts. Eventually, he passed them over to the younger mutant, who had a better view of the other guard tower from where they were hidden. "You see anything different up there yet, Kid?"
Dan took the binoculars, putting them up to his face and looking, taking a second to find the guard tower, but it soon came into focus. "It... just looks like they're bored, still," he said - the guards, depending on who was on duty, were sometimes talkative, sometimes bored. Dan was trying to keep tabs of them in his head, making up names for them, like "Hat Guy" and "Beardy" and "Sunglasses," but it was hard after a while, sometimes the same guards didn't show up twice for a long time. "There are two just talking to each other, they're not even looking around. The third looks like he's... looking at the building?" He handed the binoculars back.
"Just sitting around with their thumbs up their asses", Akutsu confirmed, smirking slightly. Shit, it'd be a cake walk breaking through the outer perimeter. Wasn't much too it, just a fence, some trip wires to the perimeter alarm, and a bunch of bored dumbasses sitting around picking their noses and probably swapping bullshit stories about getting laid.
Fuck, he was so tempted..."Think its time to get a little closer, see if we can't find out what's inside", he told Dan, dropping the binoculars around the other's neck and ducking behind him to start slinking through the brush behind the trees. They'd circle back around to the front and watch for any trucks going in or out.
Dan nodded - he slung one arm through the binocular strap, so he was wearing them more like they were a bag, which made it easier to crawl behind Akutsu-san without making much noise. The other boy was much, much better at sneaking, but Dan was small and if he was careful he could move without making much noise at all. He stayed low to the ground as they crawled around the perimeter a bit and towards the front of the complex, where there were gates and a small guardhouse with only one guard, which sat beside a road that led up to and through the closed gates. Dan settled himself once they'd stopped, trying to get comfortable but stay as low as possible.
They were close enough to the guardhouse that Akutsu could have smelled the guard had Dan not been right at his elbow. As it was, he could see him well enough. And the road. Motioning Dan to stay put and keep down, he crept a little closer, slipping around bushes until he felt the effects of Dan's powers dissipate. He could smell plenty then, from what smelled like gunpowder, to the sickeningly sweet bubble gum the guard was chewing more that a few feet away.
Dan watched as Akutsu-san crawled a little farther ahead - he wasn't sure for a moment why, but then he thought that maybe Akutsu-san wanted to get a better look. With his powers, too - he was a good hunter and tracker when he had his powers, but bringing Dan along damped them. For the first time, Dan wondered if maybe he shouldn't have asked to come. Maybe Akutsu-san was safer without him... He bit his lip, telling himself that he was here now, and that he just had to do his best to stay out of the way, and help however he could. Right now, that meant staying silent, and staying put. And waiting for further orders, as it were.
Licking his lips, Akutsu crept even closer, eyes darting towards the entrance doors as a covered truck came out. Didn't look all that imposing..or smelled like it either. Smelled like shitty prepackaged rations. He could just creep to the guard, take him out with the knife, get his uniform...but one glance at Dan behind him had him nixing the plan. He'd already gotten more information this way that what that bitch Shiiba had given him. But what he really wanted to know was if there were prisoners kept here.
Guess he oughta try and find a way in for just a minute or two. Usually he found a way to just burst in and cause a lot of damage but this kind of shit could get ugly...and get back to the wrong people. Fucking hell, what had he been smoking when he agreed to get mixed up with this Brotherhood bullshit? Now he had to take more responsibility than just himself, and it was pissing him off.
Sneaking back, he leaned in towards Dan and murmured as low as he could in the kid's ear. "Gonna see if I can't get inside for a sec...watch the guard. It looks like he's going my way, distract his ass...throw a rock or something."
Dan blinked - was that really smart? - but he finally nodded. It was why Akutsu-san had come here in the first place, right? It would be stupid to come all this way and do all this work and just leave without ever getting inside. "Okay," he whispered - he'd do his best to keep a lookout, and distract anyone that needed distracting. He hoped Akutsu wouldn't be long - and that he'd be careful. Dan couldn't get back home on his own - there was no way. And he couldn't go in after Akutsu-san if he was captured, either - that was also impossible. So he had to trust in the other's skills... but maybe that wouldn't be so bad. As long as he was far from Dan.
"Be careful," he whispered, then shifted a bit so he could watch the single guard better. He would keep the best lookout possible!
Timing was everything if you weren't just going in apeshit and slashing bodies indiscriminately. Akutsu watched the perimeter cameras, holding his breath as he slipped past one, then the other as the guard stared boredly out at the road. Crouching low, he avoided another and crept through the entrance, nose and ears alerted for any sign of guards or personnel inside. For a military base, it was pretty fucking bare compared to the others he'd been into before. He was able to get quite a ways in without coming across anyone, but he pulled out his knife from his boot anyways. Just a quick look around...then he could get the kid the hell outta here.
Dan watched as Akutsu slipped down the slight hill and into the perimeter. He breathed a sigh of relief as the other boy disappeared from view - but it was premature, he realized as only a few seconds after that the guard suddenly looked up, like he'd noticed something, and stood. Oh, no! What if he had noticed- what if he was going to go after Akutsu-san - and hurt him? What if he shot him? It was Dan's job to keep Akutsu safe - no matter what. He glanced around frantically - spotting a rock, he grabbed it, and threw it directly at the soldier.
It actually hit - miraculous as that may have been - but now Dan had another problem. He'd gained the guard's attention - he lurched in the direction the stone had come from, and while he wasn't after Akutsu-san anymore... now he was after Dan. Dan scrambled to turn around and run - he's lead the guard far away, and hide... that would work...
Meanwhile, inside, Akutsu wasn't liking the smell of this place. Weapons and rations and contraband were nothing new...but this place smelled like death. A lot of it. And some of it was definitely not human. Every instinct in him screamed to get the hell out of there, and he flattened himself against a wall as a trio of soldiers stopped and proceeded to bullshit amongst themselves. Fuck. They were blocking his damn way! He kept himself as still as he could, hoping that the kid was keeping himself quiet and out of danger.
Dan, meanwhile, was stumbling his way up the hill, trying to look back only sparingly, as that would let the guard catch up with him, and Dan was not going to be caught. He looked around, frantically, for someplace he could hide - someplace he wouldn't be noticed... there! There was a big tree, over to the left, with a branch just low enough for Dan to grab. He could try and climb it - hide in the branches, it had enough leaves....
He risked a glance behind him - the guard was on his tail, but Dan could lose him if he detoured. He sidetracked into another stand of trees, darting between them, hoping to get the guard confused. When he couldn't hear the man's stumbling anymore, Dan beelined for the tree he'd seen, scrambling up the branches as quickly and quietly as he could, biting his lip as he scraped himself hard enough to sting, but he kept climbing - and turned off his image inducer, hoping his skin might actually hide him this once.
Akutsu was debating whether or not he should just take the soldiers out. He could do it, no doubt about that. But then there would be bodies and he just didn't want to take the time. He was starting to itch to escape this place. The stink of it...he had to get out. Just then, a walkie talkie buzzed and the three double timed it out the entrance door. Akutsu experienced a feeling of dread. Had they found the kid? He followed behind, knife ready. But the three simply met up with the other guard, panting and gesturing out into the thick nest of trees and vegetation. Dan was nowhere to be seen.
Moving stealthily away, though, as soon as the men departed to scour the area, he put his nose to work and tracked Dan down silently, pausing at a large tree and waiting for the soldiers to pass by.
"...Come on down, Kid. We're blowing this place like its a cheap two dollar whore."
Dan had seen Akutsu-san coming from a long ways off - he could see a lot from up here, also including the fact that they were in the clear for the moment. He... didn't quite get the reference (he didn't understand a lot, sometimes, when Akutsu started talking about whores or girls or women or things like that - but that wasn't important now!) but he nodded and began making his way down, hissing quietly this time at his scrapes, but finally he was at the bottom, doing his best not to land in a heap at Akutsu-san's feet. "Did you get what you wanted? Are you sure? I could try to make them chase me again!"
Secretly, Dan hoped he wouldn't have to do that. He didn't know if he was cut out for this sort of thing, though the thought made his eyes sting with shame.
Akutsu's response was immediate. He bopped Dan over the head a little less than gently with his fist. "You fuckin' nuts? We cut it close, now we're leaving. Ain't going back into that place...not without taken 'em all out first", he growled. Keeping his hand around Dan's arm, he lead the other away, all too aware that it was like navigating blind for him when he couldn't smell his way out. There were a few other close calls after that; too fucking close, but keeping Dan perfectly still helped conceal them from the soldiers hunting them. After a few minutes, they could breathe easy, knowing they were out of immediate danger of being caught. Akutsu elbowed Dan a little. "Better turn on your makeup, Kid."
Dan winced as Akutsu rapped him on the head - it didn't hurt too much, but it was definitely harder than usual. He just nodded, silently agreeing that he'd like to get out of here, and the sooner the better. He was all-but-dragged along behind Akutsu, who had a rather tight grip on his arm, and would yank him along until he would dive behind some brush and hold him down, fingers digging into Dan's arm and telling him he'd better not so much as breathe too quickly or loudly. His heart was pounding in his ears, but the soldiers didn't seem to be able to hear that, thankfully, and finally, they were safe.
Dan blinked and nodded at the request, keying in the proper code again. "T-there. That should look okay now." He rubbed one elbow a little, where he'd banged it on a tree branch, and shifted from foot to food. "Wherever you want to go. I'll follow, desu."
Akutsu just grunted. "Taking you home", he managed before leading the way back to civilization. Dan looked all right, apart from running into things here and there. And he didn't complain, which earned him a lot more respect from Akutsu, something that wasn't the easiest thing to acquire. Halfway to the bus stop they'd arrived from, however, he simply stopped the other mutant. "Climb on...you're too damn tired. Don't need you stumblin' into traffic", he said gruffly, jerking a thumb at his back as he crouched down.
Dan blinked tiredly - he'd been stumbling along silently beside Akutsu for a while now, his little chase and climb having taken more out of him than he'd thought. Being cooped up inside for years definitely did absolutely nothing for one's stamina... not to mention Dan was small and scrawny by default. He glanced up at Akustu-san with a bit of surprise, though, as the other offered to carry him the rest of the way.
He couldn't ignore the small smile of thanks that slipped across his face, but he knew Akutsu-san didn't like mushy things, so Dan only nodded, before climbing stiffly onto the other's broad back, marveling at how strong the other boy felt underneath him. Draping his arms over Akutsu's shoulders, Dan closed his eyes and rested his forehead against the other's shoulder, not wanting to chatter and annoy him.
Shit. This'd probably be easier if Dan wasn't blocking his powers. Still, he had enough endurance to carry the kid onto the bus when it came. Dan was a light little shit anyways. Slipping into the seat beside him, he kept watch, growling in his throat softly at anyone who so much as glanced at the kid the wrong way. It took another walk carrying Dan, and another bus, but they finally made it back to the mansion without incident.
Dan had started to drift on the last "ride" home, but when the movement underneath him stopped he realized they were back at the mansion, finally, and he wanted a bath and a nap and maybe then some food. He shifted against Akutsu's back to let the other know he was okay and could walk on his own, now. "You can put me down now - I'm just going to go take a bath. Heh... Maybe Akutsu-san should do the same. You must be tired after carrying me so much." He didn't mean to be a burden. But he was still really, really glad Akutsu had brought him with. "Are you ever going to go back?"
"Not with you Kid", Akutsu tossed back. "I go back, there's gonna be bodies. Lots of fuckin' bodies", he murmured, more to himself as he dropped the younger mutant back down to the ground. Immediately he put a bit of distance between them and lit up a cigarette from the partially crushed box in his pocket. "...Did okay, Kid.", he said as he walked inside. It was as close to a thank you as he normally got.
Dan frowned - it wasn't safe to go alone! But then he supposed it might be, for Akutsu, in the end. Though he decided he wouldn't think about that for now. He was pretty sure Akutsu-san wouldn't go back for a while. So maybe Dan would be able to think of someone else to go with him instead, in the meantime. He blinked, slowly, as the other walked inside, but slowly, he broke into a grin. He'd done okay? That was a relief. He was glad Akutsu-san hadn't yelled at him, and that he'd appreciated the company. He found it in himself to stumble up the stairs, the warm feeling of a job somehow well-done floating him up the stairs to the bathroom.
