Summary: Inui finds his specimen, Rin gets rid partly of the soreness~.
By some miracle or other, Rin retracted the claws on Sunday. Or rather, sometime during the night, when he slept. It was annoying how it happened when he was the least conscious. How? What? Why? These few other things nothing happened, and when he most wanted it when awake, nothing happened either. And then... when asleep (on a chair no less, he refused to sleep in the same bed Ryoga and Luis slept in when he could so easily kill them), completely unaware of anything happening to his body. Though, when he woke up, that wasn't his only problem. There was something worse bothering him. It was the soreness, now it was more of a striking ache actually. Slightest movement shot sparks of pain up his arms and like that he had to survive whole training session, without even blinking an eye when the pain was becoming unbearable.
Then again, years after years of dealing with pain, cuts and all the like, keeping his face straight when in pain was much easier than for a normal person.
And then, when finished with everything, Rin remembered the other teacher's offer of help. Inui Sadaharu right. And why shouldn't he take the other up on the offer? At this point in time the blonde was rather desperate. Which was why he made his way to the man's office, easily finding it with the man inside.
Inui Sadaharu was, indeed, housed within his office, which was well-furnished but still somewhat bare-- he either didn't have the time to properly personalize his space, or he just didn't bother to. He was at his desk in front of the computer that was provided to him by the school, which had a much smaller device attached to it-- a personal digital assistant that also doubled? tripled? quadrupled? as a phone.
He seemed to be rather busy, long fingers tapping rapidly at the keyboard, but he couldn't ignore the sound of the door opening for the first time. Pausing, the man turned his head to glance at the newcomer through his square spectacles, and he had to keep a faint smile from spreading over his lips. The blonde man at the door was a stark contrast to the ragged, almost sickly specimen he encountered at his previous facility. However, it took a moment for him to place a name to that face-- Hirakoba Rin. Yes, that was the name he never learned.
Pulling his hands away from the keyboard, Inui rose from his seat to face Rin. He was a very tall man, at least over six feet in height, with an average build. He had a very professional appearance to him, wearing a stark black suit with matching tie.
Inui allowed a polite smile to cross his features. "Welcome," he greeted, absently noting that the blonde used to have longer hair. "May I help you?"
Rin rubbed at the knuckles of his right hand, where only yesterday there were three long metal blades sticking out. He smiled then, in a greeting, muscles of his face more used now to that expression rather than a scowl or anything else. "Remember your offer to help with the soreness?" One hand rouse, forearm exposed, to indicate what exactly he meant. There was nothing visible on the outside, but just that mere movement was enough to make his eyebrow twitch. That was the only outward sign of pain.
"Ah, and I'm Hirakoba Rin," right, he forgot to introduce himself first. Like usual. There were always more important things to say than his name.
He took a moment to regard the older man. Noting certain things like the scent, or details which usually people either didn't see or didn't notice. There was something familiar about the man, but he couldn't quite place the exact reason. It was just a feeling, impression, very vague and probably not something he should pay attention to. These kind of things never turned out true.
"Today it's exceptionally bad," and he should probably explain why, though now that the claws were back in his forearm, explaining would sound hilarious again. And no, Rin didn't like to sound hilarious.
Inui blinked, as if he were trying to remember the offer, but when Rin finally introduced himself, his smile grew slightly more accommodating. "Ah, so you're Rin," he replied, recalling that this one liked being addressed by his given name. At that, he stepped around his desk and strode up to the blonde, extending a hand. "Inui Sadaharu. It is a pleasure to finally meet you, Rin," he greeted the other as sincerely as he could. "But I'm sorry to hear that we have to meet under such circumstances."
Shaking hands was painful too, but he forced himself to do so, just to not seem too rude, though in all honest he would rather not have to. "The pleasure is mine," Rin said with another eye twitch, "When circumstances change, perhaps we should try to acquaint properly?"
Inui nodded in agreement, noting the way the blonde's eye twitched. "Please, have a seat," he indicated the chairs placed before his desk. Leaving Rin, he went over to his desk to fetch a pencil and a small notepad. "I hope you don't mind me taking some notes," he said cooly, sitting down in the seat opposite of Rin's. He scribbled something inside, then glanced up again at the blonde. "Now, first, let us find the source of the problem. I believe you've said that this soreness first started several weeks ago, and that you knew the cause. Do you care to elaborate on that?" he asked, pencil poised on the lined paper.
There was a long pause after that question was posed and Rin was seated in his chair. No, he refused to run the risk of being stuck with the claws out again for few days, so he'd just have to explain. "From here," he pointed to his wrist, "To here," he traced a finger up his forearm to the elbow, "Metal claws-blades-things," God only knew how stupid he felt at the moment, "Both forearms, three on each. Can't say how thick or wide." And then the blonde fell silent, pondering if there was anything else to add. If he said everything he could. That was it, everything that had to do with the soreness. If the man had any questions, Rin would try his best to answer them. "That'd be all I can explain."
Inui watched intently as Rin indicated what exactly the problem was, and he had to consciously keep his face blank, neutral. He noted everything in his pad, finally letting a brow raise to display curiosity. "Blades? If I remember correctly, you didn't mention anything about blades in your self-introduction. Are they not part of your mutation?"
"As far as I remember, all through the 19 years of my life, I, as in my mutation, have never had anything to do with metal," Rin said, dead-pan, "Besides, I know it's them, they were doing something to my bones too," the blonde continued, a slight frown appearing on his face, "But I don't know what."
"'Them?'" the scientist asked, though he already knew the answer.
"Them," a smile now again, but this time somehow nasty, stretched his lips, "Human scientists, who like to play God." Oh, how Rin wanted to make them pay for the suffering. Make them suffer just as much as he did, now and before, and these few times the drugs stopped working a little too early.
"I see," Inui replied neutrally, cooly as he noted Rin's reaction. "Yes, the incident was harsh on our kind, but I had no idea that they would go so far as to alter us, if that is what you're implying," he said sympathetically. "It must be a painful memory; I'm sorry to have brought it up."
"Painful?" Rin tilted his head slightly, eyes looking up at the ceiling for a moment, "Yeah, it was quite literally painful." Then he looked back at the man in front of him, the angry feeling never leaving his eyes, even though the muscles of his face were relaxed and there was still a smile on his lip, "It's not a problem, you had to know if I want you to help me." At this point in time he was more angry about it rather than depressed. Not as much, anymore, but also still miffed at his hair being cut in the process as well. What did his hair ever do to anyone? Damnit.
The older man nodded slightly, unfazed by the seething look. "As said before, I'm not an official medical professional, but I will do what I can." At that, Inui placed the pad down on his desk, and dragged his chair closer to Rin. He took the blonde's arm surprisingly gently, examining his skin for only signs of scarring. "You've said that you have claws. Does that mean they are retractable?" the scientist asked as he began to lightly press along his forearm with his thumb to check for any abnormalities.
"Yes," light golden eyes followed every movement of the other man's fingers on his forearm, "I've had them out, since ahh, Thursday," Rin continued speaking, explaining further, "Only today morning retracted them. 've almost no control, what-so-ever, over them, though." He rolled one shoulder in a shrug, "And I'm guessing that is why it's aching more," a wince and a soft hiss escaped the thin lips, when Inui stumbled upon an exceptionally sore and sensitive patch.
Inui wanted a glimpse of those claws, to see how well they fit their new host body, and to perhaps have a demonstration performed-- but he had to be careful not to seem too eager. "No control? I see..." he murmured, slightly disappointed, but he then figured that Rin's body was still adjusting to the foreign objects-- if the soreness of further irritated by the retraction of the claws, then the mutant's muscles did not grow around them yet, he figured.
He noted the area on the forearm where Rin was most sensitive, and let his arm go for a moment. "Please rotate your arm and wrist; I wish to check your mobility."
Rotate? Rin wanted to cry at that, but he did as he was told. First wrist, few full turns, then elbow, same, then the left wrist and elbow. It brought pain, a lot of it, and this time he couldn't hold his expression neutral. Even a soft hiss escaped him, as his eyes shut tightly from the sensations. At this point in time, the blonde mutant really hoped Inui'd be able to help him, otherwise this would be useless, and he'd be very, very upset. "Anything else?" he sighed, sinking into the chair, while his arms stilled on the armrest.
Inui took up his notepad again, scribbling into it. It was obvious there was still pain, but it didn't seem like the rods were placed too high or low in the arm-- if they were too low, Rin wouldn't have been able to rotate his wrists, and if they were too high, bending his elbow would've been a problem. Inui did not feel any unusual bumps either. If only he could see them fully unsheathed... that was the most important part in seeing if they could extend all the way without causing problems, but it seemed the other mutant was still how to control them. Inui could neither ask him specific questions about what happened when they were unsheathed-- he wasn't supposed to know how they worked, after all.
Inui frowned slightly while staring at his pad, as he found he couldn't ask anything more of Rin without being too suspicious. Thinking for a moment, he then asked, "Your mutant ability is accelerated healing?"
The blonde nodded, and cracked his neck, "And sharpened senses and enhanced strength and agility and all this stuff," nothing shiny, nothing spectacular. But something he lived with his whole life, and that little time he spent with the inhibitor collar only assured him he would never ever want to exchange for something else. Besides, it allowed him to live a relatively normal life up until now. Which was more than good. "I guess the healing factor was what they wanted," he shrugged.
Inui nodded slightly. "Yes, that's a reasonable hypothesis if they risked putting foreign objects into you. And you said that they did something with your bones as well? Could you explain? Or do you not know."
"I'm not sure," he started, "I haven't seen what exactly they were doing, when I woke up, and I'm not masochistic enough to cut myself to check what the fuck is up with my bones," he tilted his head slightly, the short strands of blonde hair brushing against his nape, tickling the skin there. "I'm only assuming it may be something like the claws as well." Right, but his thoughts often took him to different places and perhaps he should explain what he meant, "I mean, something to do with this metal."
Yes, definitely something with his bones. Something interesting, but Inui couldn't say a thing, only nodding his head. "And it would be difficult to determine exactly what was done... have you gone to the clinic to take x-rays? Assuming they have that sort of equipment." Inui shook his head-- he should've looked into that.
"I'm new here," Rin shook his head, "I don't know that much about this school yet. Dunno if they have x-ray here." He actually didn't exactly know where the labs were, being there only once and never being interested to go again. Because why for?
"Then I would suggest that we find out," Inui said, giving Rin a slight smile that might've been sympathetic. "In the meantime, you wish for relief. Since your muscles seem irritated by the claws in your forearms, and I neither have the knowledge nor authority to prescribe you medicine, the best thing I can offer you is a massage with a topical ointment to relax yor muscles."
Perhaps he would try to find out if they had x-ray here tomorrow. For now, "Massage?" Well, Rin was sure it'd hurt, but he also was hoping it would help in the end. Relax the muscles and let them get used to the blades. "I guess that sounds as good as anything," it never hurt to try. Or rather, in this case it'd literally hurt, but this was better than nothing.
The scientist nodded, leaving his chair and placing his pad back down on his desk. "So you're new here as well. What made you come to Ryuhana Gakuen, if you don't mind me asking?" Inui said, hoping to make conversation while he worked. While they were talking over the school journals, Inui had already decided on what to do should Rin ever seek help for his soreness, and as such, Inui had gotten the muscle relaxant ointment beforehand. Taking it from his desk, he also used a hand sanitizer to disinfect his hands before sitting near Rin again. He squeezed some of the ointment into his hands, rubbing it between them to warm it up before he took Rin's arm and began digging lightly into his muscles.
"Lack of a better place?" Rin winced slightly at the touch, but soon enough the pain became duller and more bearable, "I was fired for not showing up at work, during the lock down. I think parents are during the process of disowning me. Was kicked out of the second apartment, the first one was blasted to smittens, and I really couldn't live at the Echizen household for too long." He hissed again, but didn't pull his arm away. His mind was chanting that it'd make the soreness go away, it'd be better after this, it had to. "This is one of very few places where mutants are welcome. I'm lucky I didn't get kicked out of the university." Or at least he thought he wasn't. No notice has arrived or anything. The thought made him a little nervous, and Rin made a mental note to call his professors when he was out of here.
"Yes, it's convenient that a place like this exists for us. We're very lucky." The ointment had menthol in it, giving it a minty smell that would hopefully soothe. His thumbs worked gently into the muscles where the tender parts were.
The menthol smelled nice, Rin decided. Refreshing. "Yes, it is," the pain was still there, but less sharp. It was becoming more like the soreness he felt all these other times. Not this ache from today's morning. "Though I don't think I can stay here forever, or too long. Suffocating."
"Suffocating? Do you care to explain?" Inui asked politely as his long fingers worked up his forearm to his elbow. Vaguely, he thought he could feel the metal rods through his prodding.
Rin laughed at that. "Nothing important or interesting," he smiled, "I like to live on my own." After so long, one got rather used to it. To the freedom it brought. Though right now, the blonde didn't think he could go anywhere without his roommate. "Or well, with my roommie," he shrugged with one shoulder, "Here everyone knows you and... I never lived in dorms, so I guess I'm not used to it too."
The older man smiled. "Neither was I, when I first attended university. Students had to live on campus in the dorms their first year. I have to say I almost hated it; my roommate and I were so different. Polar opposites."
Well, that called for a wide grin, "Huh, I think you're speaking from my roommate's perspective. I could tell he wasn't pleased with my company at first," funny how things changed over the time. "But I'm too charming to be hated for too long~," Rin winked in amusement, laughing at himself. And he'd flick his hair away from his shoulder, was his hair long enough for that, and so his free hand stopped in the middle. "Damn, still not used to this hair."
"Perhaps your roommate got used to you," he suggested, smiling faintly. Inui tilted his head. Ah yes, he had much longer hair before. "Was it cut too short? If you are not satisfied with it, I hope you did not tip the hairdresser."
Of course, when the matter of his hair has been questioned further any other thought escaped his mind, "Pff, if a hairdresser did that he wouldn't get paid at all." Rin frowned, "The scientists did it," he shrugged, pouting a little, "I still can't make out what made them cut it."
"Hm. If they had worked with your skull, you wouldn't have any hair at all," he chuckled softly.
... "EIW," okay, that wasn't a mental image he wanted to have right now. Though then another thought appeared, "Strange. Why did they do everything, but not the skull?" To leave themselves an opening to kill him? But could he be killed that way? Huh? He still didn't know the real extend of his healing abilities.
"I don't have an answer to that. However, perhaps they didn't have the means to," he shrugged. "It's hard to say. But at least be thankful you have your hair," he grinned.
"Yeah, I guess," he nodded, before twirling one short strand by his neck, "Why did you pick Chemistry, Inui?" A change of subject, the other one didn't exactly please him. The thought of ending up bald... was not fun in a least.
"I seem to have a natural talent for it. And the subject always interested me. They say that Chemistry binds all the sciences together; understand Chemistry and you'll have an understanding of the others." He paused, moving over to the other arm. "Though, I suppose that sounds boring to most. It helps that my ability is related to it as well."
"How so?" He didn't find it interesting before, to find out other people abilities, but now -- the extend of things people could do -- was genuinely fascinating. "If you don't mind me asking, of course."
"No, not at all. So far, from what I understand, I can alter substances. When my abilities first manifested, I had inadvertently changed my glass of milk into water. Things of that sort. I suppose it's helpful in the lab if my supply of a chemical has been depleted." There was more to it, of course, but Inui didn't want to reveal it all.
"Hmm, sounds useful," if you were into this kind of thing, "You smell of chemicals too." And it wasn't just that normal scent one got on their clothes or hair when working in a lab. It was distinctly different and specific.
At that, Inui's brow rose. "Ah, I do? I hadn't realized. I suppose I've been working in the lab for too long." In the back of his mind, he wondered if this chemical smell would be a problem.
"I don't think it's the lab," Rin wrinkled his nose, quietly breathing in, "But I could be wrong, of course," he knew he wasn't though. But there was no use in pursuing the matter further. The talk quite effectively got his mind off the hands on his forearm, the pangs of pain they brought, and when he focused on his body again, there was no pain anymore, just the soreness, but less than what it normally was. Much less. He moved the arm which was not being massaged currently, and was glad to realize he could move it easily. The muscles stretched smoothly, moved around the blades, "I think this massage is working."
The scientist nodded, deciding he shouldn't pursue the matter any further at the moment. "Then perhaps this is enough for now. I suggest doing this once a day if the pain returns frequently. Otherwise, I'm glad I could have helped," he nodded his head, removing his hands from Rin's arm. "If you'd like, I could give you the ointment."
Once a day? Would Ryoga help? Or would he have to do it himself? Or bother the man here again? Well, he'd have to find out tomorrow, "That'd nice," Rin smiled, while checking again and again his wrists and elbows again, moving and stretching the muscles, "Thank you." It was quite amazing, not perfect, but good enough. With time the ache'd certainly disappear completely. "Actually, thank you very, very much. If you'd ever need anything from me, just drop me a message~. So I can repay <3."
"You know that's not necessary," Inui smiled, filing the I.O.U. away. "I'm just glad I could help. And should you need anymore assistance, you know where to find me."
"Yes, I do," Rin nodded and stood, "If such need arises, you can expect me back," though somehow he had this feeling Ryoga would help. And perhaps even without complaining too much. Or was that hoping for too much on his part? "Thank you again," the blonde gave a short bow and with the ointment turned to leave. Really, he woke up today in pain and he'd be sleeping with it more or less smoothened. The day couldn't be any weirder. Or evened out. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly good either... perhaps he should say neutral. But neutral was good in the end.
