Date: Thursday (which would be today, I think) after classes.
Rating: G, of course.
Summary: Dan and Sakuno go for ice cream!

It was towards the end of class and Dan was anxious for it to end. At first he had remained attentive and interested in what was going on, but it became duller as it neared the end. That was the reason for the random doodles covering his piece of notebook paper. The little creatures and blobs bordered the notes he had neatly taken.

The teacher announced that class was over. Eagerly Dan stood up and in the process, knocked down his chair. Embarrassed he moved to pick up his chair and while doing that Dan bumped into his desk. The loose leaf papers fluttered down from his desk. One by one the books slid off his desk and onto the floor. He blushed at his clumsy movements with the teacher staring at him oddly.

Not really sure where her new classes were up too, Sakuno had taken way too many notes in an effort to catch up on her first day. When the teacher announced the class over, she slid her books and rather full notepad into her bag and made sure she pushed her chair in before heading towards the door, only pausing when she saw someone’s chair hit the ground out of the corner of eye.

Turning, she hurried over to help the other student who’s books had just taken a tumble (because helping was, of course, the right thing to do). After collecting several of them and then arranging them neatly, Sakuno held them out with a smile for the boy to take.

He had picked up the chair just in time to see the girl approaching him. Dan, not knowing what to do, went to grab some of his books from off the ground. This reminded him a lot of his time at his old school. He had a reputation for being the clumsiest kid, which was no surprise considering how many times accidents he caused every day.

Dan looked over to the girl who had started to pick up several of his things. A large smile slid onto his face when she offered his things to him. "Thank you! I appreciate the help." Dan said as he gratefully accepted the items. He placed them on top of the small pile he had gathered. "I haven't seen you before. Are you new here?" He asked as Dan realized that she didn't seem very familiar.

"It’s fine, you looked like you needed the help." Her smile brightened in response to his as she handed his things back. Taking a small step back, she watched him finish putting away his stuff before nodding in response to his question, her gloved hands unconsciously fiddling with one of her plaits as she answered properly. "This is my first day in class, that’s probably why you haven’t seen me. Um, I’m Sakuno, by the way. You are?"

Dan shoved the loose pieces of paper into a random folder for now. He always ended up going through his folders and reorganizing them anyway. "Sakuno? Oh really?" Dan turned to her. "You're that girl who's a girl!" He exclaimed without thinking. "We talked on your journal, diary thing. I'm Dan! Nice to see you in person."

"Oh, yes! I remember, I’m that girl who’s a girl." Giggling a bit, she continued. "Niou-kun did say you were short, I should’ve put it together. It’s nice to meet you in person as well." With a smile (and a slight blush that seemed to follow her when asking things), she offered - "Um, are you busy right now? We could do something if you like?"

He nodded enthusiastically. "Wow, you remember me!" He sounded almost amazed by that. "Oh, you met Masa-chan? He's nice, isn't he? You're nice too." It seemed like the end of the class had brought out a burst of energy from the small boy or perhaps it was meeting Sakuno. Dan got easily excited. "No, not at all. Doing something together sounds terrific! You know, you're like the first girl here I've really talked to."

"Of course I do, and yeah, he’s very nice, he showed me where the cafeteria was and everything." Sakuno grinned at the sudden energy, amused by it (and Dan in general, he reminded her some sort of puppy and so short!). "That’s good, um. Where do you want to go exactly? I don’t know where there is to go around here. And hopefully I’m not the last girl you talk too." Giggling again, she hitched up her bag on her shoulder, waiting for his answer.

Dan slipped his possessions into his bag and closed it with practiced ease. "Hm, let's see. There's an ice cream place nearby the school we could walk to, my treat. Or we could go to the cafeteria and get something to eat or we could go outside and um... sit?" He slipped his backpack over his shoulders as he considered more options. "I can't really think of anything else. I never really looked around this place before." Dan paused for a moment and nodded. "I hope so. My parents told me to get married one day." He said with a grin.

"Ice cream sounds good but um. I’m not sure I should go out of the school, I don’t want to scare anyone..." Biting her lip, she weighed up the choices that he gave her. "We could get it then go outside and sit? Is there much of a garden or anything? I’ve yet to look, I used to like gardening before..." Dan mentioning his parents hope of his marriage distracted her from sinking into her thoughts, thankfully and she giggled at that thought of him in a suit next to some anonymous taller girl.

"Scare anyone? But you're not scary." He distorted his face into a silly expression for Sakuno. "Scary people are like that and go around making weird noises like this. Ufufufu." Dan attempted to imitate the laugh that Hanamura-sensei often did, but mimicking wasn't a strong ability of his. "That sounds like a good idea. I'm sure there's a garden-y place somewhere." Dan smiled as she mentioned gardening. "Really? What type of gardening? Flowers? Veggies? Wait, um... Topiaries!"

She laughed at his example of scary and shook her head, plaits bumping into her as they swung. "No, I’m um. A different kind of scary. You know, my power and everything. I become invisible and um. It tends to scare people, well. It did at my old school." Taking a moment, she pulled off one of her gloves to show him her missing fingers (they tended to stay that way a lot, annoying things). Pulling it back on, she smiled when he said there might be one, then giggled again. "Um, just flowers and veggies mostly, nothing too exciting."

"Oh, different? Really?" He stared at her hand. His mouth made a little "o" as he looked at the spaces where her fingers should be. "It did? At my old school the other students thought I was just really weird because I tried to tell them that something happened. They never believed me when I said I saw real live dinosaurs." The other kids just thought he was crazy while the adults thought he had an overactive imagination, which could have been true. "But flowers are exciting. The way that they start out real small as a seed then they become a lot bigger when they become pretty flowers." Dan grabbed Sakuno's hand without warning. "C'mon, I'll lead the way. I think I know where I'm going."

"Yeah, I think it’s more scary because you can see it or something, the other students got really scared..." She glanced at him when he mentioned seeing dinosaurs, her curiosity kicking in as her eyes widened. "Oh, wow! Dinosaurs, were they really big and stuff? What were they like? And yeah, that’s what I like about flowers too, it’s like you raise them into the pretty things all by yourself!" Sakuno startled a bit when he grabbed her hand but relaxed quickly with a smile, she didn’t mind him at all, definite friend material with the whole not minding her thing. "Sure thing."

"Oh, but I think they would be more scared if you had huge fangs and big sharp claws and you wanted to eat them." Dan remarked with his completely random imagination. "Yeah, they were really big! They were bigger than even Ohtori-senpai! The ones I saw had really long necks and were eating leaves. It was kinda cute, I guess. Like an elephant cute sort of cute." He walked down the halls while holding gently to Sakuno's hand. "Flowers smell really nice too."

"I’m sure I’d be much more scary that way!" Her mock-growling were soon drown out by her giggling (being around Dan seemed to have affected her brain somewhat). "That’s so neat! I think I’ve seen drawings of them in books before, they were adorable but I forget their name, that must have been awesome seeing them like that." Falling into step with him as he led the way, she swung their hands lightly. "One day, I’ll show you my flowers, they smell really nice. Having a lot of them in one place makes the air smell really nice like those bunches of flowers you can buy but only better."

"But I like you like this so don't get any fangs and claws, 'kay?" He laughed softly. "Yeah, I got lucky. Some of the other dinosaurs scare me like the T-Rex ever since I saw that movie with all those dinosaurs." Dan glanced towards Sakuno and smiled. "I'd be really grateful if you did! I bet they'd be the prettiest flowers I'll ever see! Oh, the entrance." He looked up as the entrance of the school came into view. Dan pushed open one of the doors and held onto it for Sakuno to pass through.

"I’ll try not too." Grinning at him for a moment before shaking her head when he mentioned those movies. "I hate scary movies like that! But I read in a newspaper a while back that scientists thought that T-Rexes ate grass too so they’re not really scary after all." Sakuno returned his smile, and then nodded. "One day, I’ll show you them then. Hopefully my mama remembers to water them while I’m here." Murmuring her thanks when he held the door open for her, she stepped outside, taking a few more steps then grabbing his hand again when he caught up, they set off again.

"Sometimes I get so scared that I have cover my ears and close my eyes. Eh, seriously? Grass must taste good or something, I suppose." Dan looked over at the lawn and tilted his head to one side. He'd never tried grass before..."Maybe we could ask if we could have a little garden here too. You'd like that, right?" He looked at her to see her reaction. It wasn't an absurd idea for once.

"Me too! That’s why we should try watching, um comedies instead or something! And yeah, the grass back then must have been yummy because a lot of dinosaur liked it. Maybe it was sweet or something?" Sakuno blinked at the thought of grass tasting like candy and glanced at the lawn as well. Mentioning the garden, she turned her head to face him suddenly, eyes lighting up at the thought. "I could ask my grandmother or something, she teaches her! We could grow pansies and daffodils and stuff, oh! And lots of yummy vegetables, that would be so neat!"

"Oh, I love comedies! I like to laugh. I bet it was really sweet except the type the T-rexes had. The type they had was sour so they were always grumpy." Dan smiled again at her expression. "Yeah, your grandmother's Ryuzaki-sensei, right? That sounds like a lot of fun!" He looked forward to see where they were. "I think I see the ice cream place. Up ahead with that sign!" Dan said while pointing to a pretty, pastel pink sign hanging over the sidewalk.

"Laughing is always fun." Sakuno laughed at his explanation about the T-Rexes then nodded in response to his question, "well, I don’t really know her well so I’m not sure yet but Niou-kun did say she was nice, I think." Looking at where he was pointing too, she didn’t even get nervous about being seen in public (or not seen as the case usually happened to be), Dan seemed to have the ability to make her relax quite a bit and she liked being around him like this even if she hadn’t even known him properly a few hours ago. "Ice cream! What flavour are you getting, Dan-kun?"

Dan grinned, happy he had made Sakuno smile. "I'm sure you'll be able to get to know her here. If Masa-chan says she's nice then I bet she is." He picked up his pace as they got closer to the ice cream shop. "Hm, what flavor?" He looked down as he considered his choices. "Um... I think I'm going to get strawberry. What about you?"

"Yeah, hopefully. I have lots of time to get to know her and everything. And um, Niou-kun seemed to have good judgement, I think." Nodding at his choice in ice cream as they got closer, she considered what she might have... Hmm. "I think I’ll see what they have, I like honey ice cream and things like that but I’m not sure they’ll have it."

"You're lucky your grandmother does something so exciting! Mine, well they just watch tv, cook, clean, and make me get stuff for them all the time. Not that I mind or anything." He looked up at the pastel sign to make sure that it was an ice cream shop. One could never be too sure. "Honey ice cream? Never tried that one before. It sounds really good." As soon as they reached the entrance to the ice cream place, Dan pulled open the door for them and held it open like before. "After you." He said politely before giggling.

"Yeah, I’m not sure it is that exciting, she seems like a normal person, just um. Old and still working or something... And that was a bit mean. Um, my other grandmother knits me sweaters! That’s always nice. And you have to try it one day, sometimes it even has little bits of honey-comb in it but that’s only at the really special places." Giggling, she dipped her head toward him as he held the door for her as she entered the shop, quickly glancing around the interior then making her way to see the choices up close.

"But she works at Ryuhana and I bet she's really smart and um knows a lot! Honey-comb? Seriously?" Dan was tempted to try the honey ice cream. It sounded sweet and he did love sweet things. He followed Sakuno into the building. He took a moment to take pride that he had been able to find the ice cream shop without any trouble. Dan shivered at the sudden drop in temperature. The air conditioner or something was probably on.

"Okay, those things are probably true because she’s a teacher and everything. And yeah, you should try it!" It didn’t take long to find that they did have honey flavoured ice-cream there and Sakuno turned to point it out to Dan, blinking a bit when she noticed his shiver. "You okay, Dan-kun? Um, that’s the ice cream there if you do want to try it." Pointing to it to go along with her words.

"I'm fine, Sakuno-san. It's just a little cold in here." In fact Dan was sensitive to cold and hot weather. Actually he was probably sensitive to a lot of things because the weather like his feelings. He didn't like to admit it, but some of the stuff the kids at his old school had hurt him a lot. "Yeah, I'm going to try it! If you say it's good, it probably is."

"Okay, it probably is cold in here because of all the ice cream and stuff. But I think I’m wearing too many clothes to feel it, gloves and stuff are good like that." Flashing a smile at Dan, she glanced towards the guy behind the counter who seemed to be waiting for them. "Okay, two honey ice creams it is then." Glancing back to Dan, she continued - "After this, we can go check out the garden unless you want to get back. Um, do you have enough money for them? I’m happy to pay for myself regardless though."

"It wouldn't be so good if your ice cream melted right away I guess." Dan replied as he started to stop shivering with his body growing used to the cold temperature of the place. "Yup, I do. It wouldn't make a very good impression if you had to when I said it was my treat." He dug out the money from his pockets and placed the correct amount on the counter. Dan was thankful that his parents had been generous enough to give him some money before leaving.

"No, that would kind of take away the point of getting ice cream then." Sakuno shook her head in amusement at that thought then nodded, offering Dan another smile. "Okay, next time, it will be my treat though, maybe we can take it turns or something if um, you don’t mind spending time with me after this." She collected her ice cream as the guy took the money, then waited for Dan to get his before they headed out the door again (first public outing since freak-out - success, mainly due to Dan though).

"Sounds good to me!" He grinned to show his approval of the idea. "What makes you think I'd mind? I like you and spending time with you. It's fun and you're really nice. Actually I think you might be the nicest girl I've met. I mean you did help me out in class today." He took his ice cream and eagerly tried it. Dan's eyes widened. "Wow! I can't believe I never tried this before!" The grin on his face widened as he savored the sweet honey taste.

"I just wanted to make sure the feeling was mutual before I started making plans for a next time or something." Blushing a bit at his words, she smiled at him again. "It wasn’t a problem and you’re probably one of the nicest boys I’ve met as well." Sakuno’s blush faded as she laughed as his reaction over his ice-cream, happy that he seemed to like it also. She quickly started on her own as it was trying to escape through melting.

"Maybe next time we could do something different like maybe, if they say yes, we could start on that garden. Could there be strawberries in the garden too?" Dan asked while almost dropping his own ice cream. "Well, it might be because you're new. It kinda happens all the time." He said with much embarrassment for his own clumsiness. "Really? Wow, I'm nice!" Dan giggled and continued to eat the ice cream.

"We can go ask them later on then, that’d be fun - gardening, we’d need seeds and plants and stuff if they do and everything. And sure strawberries are yummy and you could plant whatever it is you want too, it’ll be our garden after all!" Sakuno made a bit of a move to save his ice-cream but Dan seemed to have it under control enough. "You mean the knocking things over thing? It doesn’t matter, most of us are growing right now so we need time to adjust to that growth and stuff, it’s normal." A pause, then with a slight blush again, she offered - "I read too much, that’s why I know stuff like that. I’m thinking of reading up on all the different power kind of things next, educate myself and that."

"I'm sure we could get shovels and stuff from the school. There might be a place around here that sells all sorts of plant stuff too! Since it's our garden, it's going to be the best garden there is!" He exclaimed before licking his ice cream. "Growing, huh? Well I'm going to grow really big!" Dan confidently said. "But reading makes you smart. I bet if you read enough, you'll be just as smart as Ryuzaki-sensei about the powers and stuff!"

"Yeah, we can ask about that stuff when we do go to ask them and everything! And I’m sure it will be even better then the one at home with your help." Shooting him another smile, Sakuno worked on the ice-cream some more before nodding again - "I hope you don’t plan to grow too big, I don’t want to get neck-strain just looking at you one day." She grinned at that mental image, not sure Dan would even still be Dan at that height. "Yeah, I was always taught that knowledge is power so reading really helps in knowing stuff! And maybe, I think I’ll have a lot of reading to do before then though. She’s got a head-start on knowledge in that area."

"Then I won't grow too big for you. I know how it feels; looking up all the time." He rubbed the back of his neck as if it hurt from looking up so much. Dan licked on his ice cream while quietly looking at Sakuno. "I got it, Sakuno-san! When you grow up you could be like your grandmother. I mean I bet you could help a lot of kids like us if you did. You're good with helping people and by the time you grow up, you'd probably know a lot. Yeah, I can see you as a teacher at Ryuhana in like ten years. With braids." Dan looked over to Sakuno's braids and smiled.

"That’s good then, saves me the trouble of trying to catch up to you in height one day, girls don’t grow as tall as boys normally, you know." Smiling, she turned back to her ice-cream, nearly done with it and it seemed like they were approaching the school grounds again. Glancing over at Dan with his suggestion, she blushed again. "Um, I- I don’t know, I’m not very good at things like that... We’ll have to wait and see what happens and everything. So uh, what do you want to be when you’re older, Dan-kun?"

"I think I'm an exception. I'll be happy if I grow a couple more centimeters." Dan was happily enjoying his ice cream. He took the time to savor each bite since this was his first time trying it. "I guess so. People can change a lot in a couple of years, right? Hm..." Dan paused for a moment to think about it. "I think I might want to do something fun or with kids. I think I would die if I had a boring job."

"Yeah, I’m sure you’ll grow soon enough, Dan-kun!" Finishing off her ice cream, she offered him another smile. "That was really nice ice cream, thank you for taking me there. And yeah, a lot can happen and everything, you never know the future... Unless you can see the future or something." She blinked at that thought before glancing back to Dan. "Yeah, boring jobs are no fun so you’ll have to find one that is fun for you later on then." Sakuno glanced up at the now approaching buildings of their school.

"I should be thanking you for introducing me to honey ice cream." Dan came towards the end of his and finished it quickly. He regretted that decision though when he realized he had no more. "That was my first time there. I guess we were lucky we didn't get lost. Heh, too bad it's the exact opposite for me. We could always bother Tezuka-senpai about the future though!" Dan nodded, "Yeah, you too. It's not very good to be unhappy at your job!"

Sakuno laughed at that. "I’m glad we didn’t get lost as well then but now we both know our way their if we ever want any more of that ice cream. And there’s really someone like that here? That’s so neat. We should go bother him later! ... Er, um. Maybe visit him later, I mean." Her enthusiasm and curiosity for being was starting to win out over her manners in this place (only on occasion though). "Yeah but we shouldn’t worry about that for years, we still have time before then to have lots of fun here and everything."

"Yeah, there's lots of other people here with really cool powers too! I want to meet them all one day! I bet he'd really appreciate our company. Maybe he'll even like predict the future for us if we buy him ice cream!" Dan acted as though Tezuka was like one of those psychic fortune tellers you called up on a phone. "You're right! We should or else we'll be grumpy and mean as adults." The entrance of the school neared. Yet again he held the door open for Sakuno. His parents would be proud of his manners.

"Yeah, Niou told me about a few! Um, a guy with porcupine something and uh, someone who looks like a tiger! But the other powers are interesting too. Like the ability to move things or zap things! There’s so many, I’d like to meet them all too. And yeah, everybody likes ice-cream so maybe!" The enthusiasm was coming back again, nodding her thanks with a smile to Dan, she stepped into the building, waiting for Dan before they started walking again. "What do you want to do now? I think dinner should be soon so maybe we should head back to our own rooms or something."

"Eh? A tiger person! Wow, that seems so cool!" The only time he'd ever seen a tiger was either on tv or at the zoo. That was a special occasion and there had been two tigers. At first he had been frightened of their fangs and intimidating presence, but after a while he thought of them as the 'really big, cute cats.' "Um…" Dan looked at the ground. "Do you want me to walk you to your room?" He asked with a small blush. The question had popped out of nowhere and he'd probably heard it from some movie he saw.

"Yeah! Maybe he looks like a giant cat, I wonder if he acts like one or if it's just his looks, we’ll have to find out one day unless he bites or something." Glancing at Dan, she smile in response to his question, amused that she wasn’t the only shy one here. "Sure, that way you’ll know where my room is so you can come by anytime you like." Reaching out, she grabbed his hand and started in the direction of the girl’s dorm (returning the gesture from earlier without actually thinking).

"I wonder if he likes catnip." He pondered for a moment then giggled away the idea. "Anytime?" Dan giggled more. "I've never been at the girls' dorm wing before." He mentioned. Besides the people who worked here like Hanamura, he never talked to any girls beyond the normal greeting. Dan followed Sakuno. "I'll have to show you my room too!"

Sakuno joined the giggling at that thought, then nodded at his question. "Maybe not at um, 4am though. Unless you really want too." Laughing a bit more she replied to his next comment - "It’s really empty and echo-y, I think I’m the only girl on the first floor! But um, there’s An on the next floor, not sure if there’s more girls before that. And you can show me your room next time, Dan-kun."

"Don't worry. I usually sleep at 4 am so I won't visit you that early. Or really, really late." There were exceptions when he had trouble sleeping, but he would never be so rude as to wake up someone. "If it gets too lonely down here, just ask and I'll be there. Sometimes the school's a little frightening when it's all dark and there's no one there." Dan made sure to remember to clean his room if Sakuno came to visit. It got messy sometimes. "Good!"

"I think most people are at that time, except for Niou-kun but um. I don’t think he counts. And I’ll keep that in mind, it does get a little frightening when it’s all dark but I have a flashlight! So I think I’ll be okay." Smiling, she led him into the dorm wing, following the empty hallway down to her own room and opening the door when they got there. "Do you want to come in for a moment or do you have to go?"

"A flashlight? That's good especially if all the lights went out and no one could see because it's all dark, but you'd be there with your flashlight and everyone would have some light." Dan let his imagination take a hold for a moment. It happened sometimes. "I think I'll have to go for now. Again, it was really nice meeting you, Sakuno-san!"

"I’m not sure that’ll happen, there’s probably more then one flashlight and everything. Maybe even someone with light powers or something!" Smiling, Sakuno nodded - "It was nice meeting you as well, Dan-kun!" She hesitated for a moment before moving forward and wrapping him in a quick hug. "We should do this again sometime soon!"

"I guess you're right about that." He blushed when Sakuno hugged him, this being the first time he had ever hugged a girl. Dan noted, during the hug, that her hair smelled nice. "Maybe again after classes?" He smiled. "Bye-bye, Sakuno-san, see you in class!" Dan waved and began his way back to his own room in the boys dorm area.

[ooc] *sputters tea at monitor at idea of Dan and Sakura meeting the "really big, cute cat"* >.> The sadist in me wonders if Saeki could handle that much sugar at once. :D

And Kamio would like to verify that yes, he does bite and he does enjoy catnip, only not the kind Dan's thinking of. ^___^
