Summary: Aquarium -- insane amounts of fluff ^^;

It might have been embarrassing to say and surprising but Akaya has never been to an Aquarium before. And the fact that Yuudai took him there for his birthday made him incredibly happy inside, though he could only show a bit of it outside (as he thought that it'd look stupid if went and cheered like a little kid, as he wasn't one. Especially now that he was turning 18). It surfaced as a warm (loving?) smile, and much lighter mood than the boy was usually in. He rarely ever used contact-lenses anymore, and they didn't feel comfortable, but still were a must. Even after registering, Akaya wasn't naive enough to think he could just parade without them... and let everyone on the streets know he was a mutant. No, and at the moment, it was a pair of fake, dark green eyes staring at the sea creatures behind the thick glass, instead of natural vermilion.

They were currently by the devil ray, and the 17-now-18-year-old decided it might be his favourite animal. For one reason or other, as they were so unlike him. Quiet, elegant, but at the same time deadly... Akaya was the last one, but surely not the first two... One pale hand rested on the glass, his power carefully and effectively shut down. So there was no danger of him blowing things up, and it also allowed his lover to use his sight whenever necessary, or whenever he wished (he didn't forget to tell the other that, before they left).

The soft bluish light gave the whole place a bit surreal feeling. It made his skin seem even paler, but he liked this kind of light and closeness of water, even if he couldn't touch it, or swim in it.

The boyish wonder that had danced over Akaya's features was worth the trip down to the aquarium - it had taken Yamato quite a while to decide on the perfect venue - especially given the piece of jewelry that was currently a comfortable weight in his pocket. Of course, he had no idea how he was going to ask - with someone with such volatile emotions like Akaya, it was nearly impossible to know how he would react to these things. With any luck, he wouldn't blow up the aquarium, or something - but if Yamato had been reading the signs right, he suspected the younger mutant might say yes.

Presently, it seemed the teenager had plastered himself against one of the tanks in wonder - it was his first time at an aquarium, so it was no surprise. Yamato had used Akaya's eyes to see with him what he was so taken by - the devil rays - before skipping around to other people in the aquarium, getting glimpses of dog fish, sharks, turtles, whatever had caught the fancy of different patrons. He really... should have thought to do something like this, before. When there were crowds, he could take in so much - see so much from so many angles. It was almost better than having his own sight; but only almost.

He did not need to ask, but Yamato inquired with some amusement in his voice, "What do you think of the aquarium?"

The question made Akaya realize he had been staring at that one tank for far too long, and he surely looked ... extremely silly. Like a 10-year-old or something. He flushed, nonetheless looking at Yamato with a pleasant expression. "It's great!" The boy never have had a good way with words, unlike with melodies, music, it was so much easier to express himself with his guitar, than with words, "I love it, thank you~!" With a last look at the devil days, he took the older mutant's hand -- this, did never cease to make him feel comfortable -- pulling him forward, to another tank, to another sea creature. "I think, I like the devil ray, the most," which was probably stating the obvious, as the man couldn't have missed how Akaya nearly glued himself to the glass. "Before I always thought sharks were cool," violent, just like him, "obviously, I don't think so anymore." Even if it might have been a silly thing to say, the already 18-year-old did not care anymore. Yamato was probably used to this, by now.

Despite the nervous jitters eating away at him, Yamato could not help but smile - Akaya's excitement was starting to project itself onto him. "I always thought hammerheads were interesting sharks," he commented casually, allowing himself to be led by the more driven and determined younger man. "But I think my favorite are sea turtles." Something like a sea turtle probably did not seem quite as impressive to Akaya - but Yamato thought they were pretty cool. Very few natural predators, once they were fully grown, but they had to make that treck across the beach and get to the water to even start the growing process - and so many never made it. Perhaps Yamato sympathized with them.

"What do you want to look at next?"

Empathy was not Akaya's good point, even that little bit that humans generally had in them. That bit that wasn't anything due to mutations, or anything unnatural. Otherwise, he'd realize the man seemed a little weird, tense maybe... as it was, nothing seemed out of ordinary. "Hammerheads do look interesting, but that's about it," he started, walking forward, looking around -- taking in each and every detail about the place. Curious eyes shifting from one thing -- one animal -- to another, "And sea turtles, hmm. They're cool too! Even though slow and awkward. I have watched once a program about them. Live long and females remember the place of their birth whole their lives, na~?" These were the main points the younger mutant remembered anyway, he was sure there were other things that had him sit still and watch. "Next maybe hmm~," he tapped his lower lip in thought, "Killer-whales?"

There was always a big show for the orcas - they ran once every two hours, and the next would be in a little over half an hour... Yamato was still wondering when the right moment to ask would be, but if it was going to be before the show.... "I think the next show starts in a half hour, if you want to go get our tickets for it." With his best calm, sweet smile, Yamato let one of his hands dip into his pocket as though to check on the box that was there - yes, he was going to start showing outward signs of being flustered, soon enough, if he did not just come out with it. But... he had to think of a good excuse, first...

Pulling the man forward, Akaya paid no attention to a little unusual signs of awkwardness in the other mutant. The ticket booth was somewhere in... this direction -- though, one would have to be crazy to let the 18-year-old lead. One might say he could get lost in his own apartment. And today was no different, as the two ended up in a more or less deserted part of the aquarium. Deserted except for them and-- what was it in the tank? After a second it became very clear... a bunch of akakurage -- jellyfish, though the boy didn't know that name, practically flew by in a slow, slow, elegant manner. The sight was truly breathtaking. "Wow," that was the only thing which managed to get past the pale lips.

Jellyfish did not have eyes he could use.

That irrational thought aside, Yamato came to a stop with Akaya - the teasing comment about the boy's inability to find the ticket counter when Yamato might have been able to find it blind dying on his lips. As he could see through Akaya's eyes, it was a breathtaking sight - there were so many of them, all semi-translucent... white with pinkish stripes... almost candy cane-like. To the untrained eye, they would look as though they glowed of their own power, but Yamato was certain the tank was appropriately lit to stun the aquarium patron.

The man smiled, stepping a bit closer to Akaya, closer to the tank. "Wow," he echoed, though his was less in breathless wonder, and more a statement of appreciation for the jellyfish. They were alone, there... Akaya was already a little enchanted... perhaps this was a good moment? Ah... it was worth a shot. At this rate, he was never going to ask.

"So... have you changed your mind?" He asked, deliberately not clarifying the question.

Attention back on the man, Akaya blinked once... twice, mind processing the question -- trying to find out what did Yamato mean with that. But he drew a blank. There was nothing that such question could refer to in his memory. Or maybe his memory was just that bad, which wasn't a funny thought. One black eyebrow rouse in wonder, as the boy looked at the other, "Changed my mind about what?"

Maybe Yamato meant, if he changed his mind about his favourite sea creature? No, that was a silly thought. Very silly... then again, one never knew with the blind mutant. Akaya sometimes thought he understood his lover, but it was just an illusion, as it took Yamato only a brief a moment to make that certainty fall into pieces. On one hand it was frustrating, on the other it made life interesting, exciting even -- though that was not something Akaya'd admit to, fearing further teasing, or the man confusing him even more (and he was sure, that'd be bad for his mental health).

It was now or never - might as well just get out with it. "About marrying me," clarified the man, still maintaining a casual tone, more or less, though he knew he was probably shaking just a bit. After all, the first time he had asked, he had only been half-serious... now, he really wanted to hear Akaya say yes. Or, at least allow him the chance to present the ring without blowing the aquarium to high hell.

Oh -- that.

Akaya couldn't say he hadn't been thinking about it recently, because he had been. The question though, did give him a pause... Yamato wasn't serious again, was he? He couldn't be... no way, no how... but he was, the boy knew and now remembered what he said that other time. Ask me again when I turn 18, and it so just happened to be today.

He had been thinking about it, but had he figured out the answer to that question? After a long moment, the boy realized he was holding his breath -- perhaps afraid to break the surreal moment.

Seconds ticked away, painfully long... well, did he have the answer now?

It was obvious that Yamato couldn't see him now, but Akaya gave a small smile. After the initial surprise (and shock) wore off, his mind was clear, and he did have the answer.

"I might have," he said finally -- if Yamato wanted a real answer, he'd just have to ask directly again. His power did not even twitch, it was tucked away safely, without any danger of the younger mutant blowing something up.

Edging closer, Yamato produced the box from his pocket, flipping open the lid. The ring was simple - on both the suggestions from Ohtori and his own instinct, it had been decided that simple would be best. It was a white gold band with three small rubies imbedded in the band itself. Hopefully, it wouldn't throw off Akaya's whole sense of style. "Just in case you did," began the man, still fighting down a wave of anxiety. "Will you marry me?"

Oh god. The anxiety was actually worse directly after asking - no matter what the answer was, Yamato just wanted to know it quickly to stop the feeling in his stomach.

This time the shock and surprise wasn't so great. Just amazement at how pretty the ring was -- and that the man actually went and bought him a ring -- simple, but smart and definitely beautiful and it was surely something Akaya would pick himself.

He was silent for a while, maybe just to pay the man back a little stress (because now the boy saw a bit of that anxiety) for all the confusion and teasing from before, but Akaya wasn't that sadistic. Though, he was still a little shy to actually say it out loud, so he just pulled the man down (a much shorter distance now, something he just recently noticed) to kiss him gently on the lips. It was an unspoken agreement, but there had to be a vocal answer as well, and after he pulled away, still staying close though, the younger of the pair murmured 'yes', against Yamato's lips. His face, even if he were alright with the concept, coloured softly.

In turn, Yamato could not help but grin - a new sort of nervous bubbling took over. He should not have been surprised - but he was... or maybe it was relief. For the first time in his life, he had no idea what to say, and anything he could think to say was incoherent babbling, and he would rather not make a total ass of himself. "Here," he said warmly, fiddling the ring out of the box. "Let's make sure this fits."

The cold touch of the ring on his finger only added to the surreal feeling of the situation. It seemed like a dream -- the lighting, the jellyfish swimming by, the unnatural warmth that radiated from where the white band touched his skin. It was a perfect fit.

"It's perfect," Akaya felt a little silly, but it was the nice kind of silly. If there even was such thing. He smiled devilishly at the other, even though Yamato surely couldn't see it, he definitely had to hear the teasing tone in his voice, "So where are you taking me for the Honeymoon~?"

"Honeymoon?" The man laughed, lightly kissing Akaya's forehead before backing away just enough that were they to be interrupted, he could save his... fiancée some embarrassment. "Getting a little ahead of yourself - I hadn't thought that far." He took Akaya's hand in his own, already calming substantially now that they were back to joking around. "We can start looking at possible locations, though. Since you seem to like the aquarium, maybe we should get our scuba licenses and go scuba diving." Like that would be possible for a man who was legally blind... but it was a thought.

"Scuba diving sounds exciting," Akaya laughed, even though he was also aware that with Yamato being blind it wasn't exactly possible. He squeezed the hand holding his, and pulled lightly, "How about oh, I don't know -- a middle of nowhere?" Though he scratched his head sheepishly, thinking that oh well, making fun of himself every now and then wouldn't kill him, and the boy said, "Anyway, you lead the way now, unless we want to get lost again."

Once more, the older man could only laugh. Things began to sink in - things like being able to enjoy this person's company for the rest of his life... things like wanting to enjoy this person's company for the rest of his life. The real weight of it all began to settle on him... and all he could think was that he had made the right choice. "The blind leading the hopelessly lost? It seems ill-advised." How had his life changed so much as he could stand there joking about something like that mere moments after asking someone to be with him for years to come? Yamato was inclined to believe the "how" did not really matter.

The younger mutant just shrugged, "You can use my sight, it'll be better than me leading again." He tried to, maybe not forget, but think of the situation as normal, if anything could be labeled normal when it came to the two of them. Otherwise, he'd feel all fluttery and nervous 24 hours a day -- which, wasn't exactly something to look forward to. The content feeling from before was much better, and that's what Akaya wanted to feel now, as well. After all, he decided already a month ago (yes, he knew the answer to the question for a month already) that this... what the ring symbolized... was what he wanted.
