Summary: Ohtori and Dan meet to make cookies!

A map to the school was probably the best thing anyone could have given him. Even with it he tended to get lost within the large building. Like now Dan was frantically searching around the hallway for the new kitchen that Ohtori-senpai said he’d be in.
Luckily he’d been able to bump into a person who had been able to point out the new kitchens. Dan hurriedly walked, running caused too many accidents, towards where that person had directed him to. Finally finding the hopefully correct place he went in. “Ohtori-senpai?” Dan called out.

Smiling up from his cookbook, he turned off the egg beater, and nodded. "Dan-kun? Nice to finally meet you." Even with slightly singed hair and a few small scuffs on his cheeks, he smiled vibrantly and started messing with a spatula in the bright yellow mixing bowl he'd chosen. "I hope chocolate chip cookies will be okay. I was out of raisins again."

Dan stared at Ohtori with his eyes wide in awe. “Woah…Kaidoh-senpai was right. You are tall!” He said with admiration in his voice for the height Ohtori had achieved. “Huh? Oh um, yeah. Chocolate chip cookies would be wonderful!” He moved forward even as his eyes sneaked up to the top of Ohtori’s head. “I like any type of cookie actually.”

He wasn't used to being stared at, blushing he smiled and looked down at the bowl. "Just about 6 foot tall, I think…" Not bragging, actually he hated towering over a lot of his senpai, and even family. Getting a small spoon, he got some of the batter on it and passed it to the younger boy. "Well, uhm- try it first and see if you like it, then we can add the chocolate and bake them…okay?"

“That’s a lot. I think I’m like 3 feet tall or something around there, but one day I want to be really tall too.” Dan replied. He didn’t like being so small. It made things hard for him and his small size made it easy for people to mistake his age. Smiling, Dan took a hold of the spoon and tried the cookie batter. He nodded eagerly. “It’s good! Really, really good!”

"Well, I bet you'll get taller." He smiled amiably, moving to the fridge and grabbing a small bag of chocolate chunks, and shaking it to make sure they were not stuck together. "Thanks, it's my Mom's recipe." Satisfied by the sound, he opened the bag and poured a lot in, stirring as he went along. "So- how do you like it here so far?"

Dan watched Ohtori with mild attention with his interest on the spoon and the cookie batter. Slowly he licked off the batter while savoring the taste. “Your mom must be really good at cooking. My mom was too, but I never really got to learn any cooking from her.” He grinned as he saw the chocolate fall into the bowl. “Um, it’s alright I guess. There’s lots of nice people here like you, but there’s also some scary people too. It’s better than being back at home I guess.”

"She is…" he smiled, thinking of family dinners she used to do, when they still were a conventional family. She didn't bake as much when he got…what she told the neighbors, sick. "I'll-uhm…give you the recipe." He started mixing the chocolate in, glancing up, "a lot of chocolate?" While waiting, he mulled over the answer. "Some of the people here are a little intimidating, but over all- I think they are good people, deep down." Just some deeper down than others.

Dan thought about his own family for a moment, but then decided that was a bad idea. He was probably still in denial, but he didn’t like to accept the fact that they had sent him here without warning. “Oh? Really? Thanks, that’d be great!” He set down the spoon once he had finished getting all the batter off of it. “Yeah!” He said eagerly. He loved sweet things, no one could deny that fact. “ I guess so. I guess everyone’s good they just show it differently. Some of them still scare me, but I get scared really easily.” He admitted with some degree of embarrassment. .

Pouring in all but a small amount of the bag, he tossed the rest over to the kid. Batting his still slightly charred bangs off of his face, he smiled. "Yeah, I actually have a whole bunch of recipes. Baking always cheers me right up." Stealing a chunk of chocolate out of the bowl and popping it into his mouth, he smiled. His mom would have smacked his hand with a spatula had she been there. Naughty pleasures~ "Nothing to fear, as long as you have good friends."

Grinning, Dan caught the bag and dug his hand around in it. He pulled out his hand triumphantly and placed the chocolate chunk into his mouth. He made a soft sound that seemed to be a cross between a giggle and sigh as he allowed the chocolate to melt in his mouth. “Sweet things make me happy. They’re just so yummy it’s hard not to smile.” Dan tried to stop the silly grin on his face, but that only ended up making the grin bigger. “That’s why I like it here. The friends here are a lot better than the ones back home.”

Swallowing the now melted chocolate, he smiled back. Dan was simply adorable, he could understand Niou saying he was like a little brother, but couldn't really see similarities between himself and the other. "I know, I especially like really sweet chocolates with fillings." Mostly strawberry, and sometimes caramels. He nodded silently, the friends here were better, it just took him longer to figure that out.

“Those are good, but my favorite is white chocolate. It’s so good.” It had been a while since he had any of the white chocolate he adored. “My mom used to buy me white chocolate every Valentine’s Day if I was good. That was the best.” He pulled out another chocolate chunk from the bag. It was always hard for him to stop eating chocolate once he started.

He made a mental note to pick up some white chocolate for Dan next time he went off of school grounds. The younger boy could probably use it, actually. He knew from personal experience that sometimes the people who smiled the most were the ones that hurt the deepest. Getting another spoon, he set out the cookie sheets for them and handed the spoon to Dan, "ready to bake them?"

Dan took the spoon and nodded. “Yeah, I can’t wait till they’re all done. I bet they’re going to turn out really, really good. Oh, I can’t wait!” He chattered while moving to the bowl of cookie batter. Dan pushed the spoon into the batter, but then stopped himself. “Wait…Um how big are we going to make them?”

Hmm...good question... Thinking for a while, and chewing his lip thoughtfully, he grinned mischeviously. "Tell you what. My mom always said to only make them as big as a spoon, but-" the grin grew, "Mom isn't here so I think we can make them as big as we want."

“That’s a good idea.” Dan had instantly liked the idea. At one point of his life he had thought of making the biggest cookie in the world, but that came to a short end. He figured there would never be an oven big enough to fit it. Dan held tightly to the spoon and gathered a large amount with it. Once satisfied he pulled out the spoon and held it up. “Do you think this is enough or should there be more?” The size of the cookie batter was already twice of the spoon.

Smiling at the gigantic wad of cookie dough, he giggled against the back of his hand and smiled. "I bet that one'll be huge!" Going by what he knew of the cookie dough, it would probably be at least 6-8 inches across. Piling his own spoon high, but not as high, he plopped it on the greased cookie tray and smiled warmly.

“Really?” With the utmost care he gently dropped the misshapen lump of dough onto the tray. He lightly poked the top to even it. Sneakily he licked his finger and went back to gathering lumps of cookie dough. The next one was much smaller than the first. He placed that one next to the giant lump of dough. “Oh look. It’s like you and me. That one’s really big like you and um…” He looked at the one he had just placed on the tray. Dan took some more dough and added to the smaller lump. “That one’s me.”

Laughing again, he nodded. "I'm not that big, Dan-kun…really!" Okay, perhaps he was by comparison, but it never hurt to argue. Making a few more neatly rounded balls of dough, he rubbed at a small smudge of charcoal on his cheek and shook his head, that was probably part of what was once his t-shirt. Reaching over and plopping a slightly smaller dollup of dough on his tray, he grinned. "This can be Kaidoh-kun."

“You’re really big if you look from down here.” Dan remarked. He laughed as he looked at the dough. “Kaidoh-senpai!” He squealed. Dan gathered some more dough and placed it on the tray. Gently he touched it with the back of his spoon until the top of the lump was spikey. “Masa-chan!” He exclaimed with pure delight.

Smiling, Ohtori got on his knees and shifted until he was eye level with Dan and cocked his head. "Better?" Glancing at the dough, he laughed. "Niou-senpai? That's a good resemblance actually." Stealing a quick spoonful of dough for himself, he chewed the chocolate quietly.

Dan nodded with a returning smile. “Much.” He appreciated it and it made things easier for his neck. Maybe that was why he liked talking to Echizen. Dan could have eye-level conversations with the other who was thankfully, about his height. “Ohtori-senpai! Your hair!” He noticed finally when Ohtori kneeled for him.

Grinning, he managed two more spoonfuls before the younger boy's shout startled him, reaching up, his eyes widened and panic set in slightly. "What? I-is there a frog or spider or something in my hair?"

“Um, no!” Dan said quickly. “No, no, uh…” He wiped his left hand on his shirt, he didn’t really mind if there was cookie dough on it, and grabbed a strand of his hair. “It’s all burnt looking. Wait, no…No one tried to light your hair on fire, did they?”

It wasn't a frog…he immediately calmed down and blinked, eyes crossing to meet where Dan grabbed a lock from his bangs, smiling, he laughed. "Oh. That's from the testing stuff today. They fried me pretty well, Kaidoh-kun is coming to my room later to help me cut the burned tips off."

“Oh,” Dan visibly relaxed when he learned that it wasn’t because of some pyromaniac. That would have been scary, a pyromaniac running around school and lighting people’s hair on fire. “Testing? Oh yeah, that. I still can’t believe that they do that to you.” His testing was never to that extreme, but his powers were fairly passive. “Oh yeah.” He squeaked and let go of the strand of hair in his hand. “Sorry.”

Smiling, he blushed a bit and stayed put. He usually liked his space, and his knees were starting to complain a little. "Ah, that's okay. I guess they want to make sure people like me, who can be dangerous, are well prepared. Or something like that."

“But people like you can be helpful too. Like when you get older you might be able to help someone with your powers. I wonder, can’t they find a better way to know? Getting hurt like that isn’t very good for you. And I bet your hair doesn’t like it much either.” Dan spoke as if the hair really did have feelings.

"Maybe...so far I've mostly just hurt people." No point getting depressed about it right now. Moving quickly he got the cookies sheets and put them both in the oven and set the timer. "I think they figured out that much beyond what they did to me today would kill me, so they should not have to run tests like those anymore."

“Good or else I’d get really angry at them. Like this, grr.” Dan attempted at making an angry expression, which ended up failing. He looked silly with his brow scrunched up and his hand curled into a threatening fist. “Oh, the cookies are going in? I hope they bake fast for us! I can’t wait!” The angry expression disappeared at the thought of the cookies.

Smiling fondly, he reached over and rubbed his hand over the other kid's head, ruffling his hair. It didn't help that his powers were still a bit off from the shocks earlier, and made poor Dan wind up with really bad static spikes in his hair. "Don't scowl, your face will stick like that." Laughing, he smiled again and looked back at the oven. "10 minutes, and we should have fresh cookies."

Dan giggled as Ohtori ruffled his hair. He was used to it with Niou always petting him. “Eh? Really?” He looked utterly shocked as his hands went to his face to see if they had stuck to that expression. Dan, gullible to a fault. “10 minutes? That seems so long. It’s going to be like torture.” He went over to the oven and peaked through the tiny window that it had.

Smiling a little, he shook his head. He'd done the same thing years ago when his parents scolded him for pouting. Sitting back on the little stool in the kitchen, he watched Dan and laughed quietly, "They don't rise right if you watch them."

“Oh? They don’t?” Dan turned away instantly. He didn’t want the cookies to turn out weird, but it was hard not to look away. To stop himself from glancing constantly at the cookies he moved over to where the bag of chocolate chunks were. He put two in his mouth and started to giggle again. “If my parents saw me eating so much sweet stuff they’d probably get mad with me. I’m kinda glad they aren’t here right now.”

"Same here," he snatched a few more and ate them, smiling as the kitchen filled with the scent of baking cookies. Toying with the singed ends of his hair, he shook his head and waited for what seemed forever. Things were nice though, it was like being a normal kid, no weird powers, nothing. Just baking with a friend. Finally the buzzer started to ring, and he moved to go get the cookies out.

“Yay, they’re done!” He cheered after what seemed to be the longest ten minutes of his life. The smell of the cookies hadn’t helped at all. The taste of chocolate and the cookie dough in his mouth was like a teaser. Eagerly Dan followed the scent of the baked cookies to their origin.

Carefully pulling the sheets out with his oven mits, he put them out to cool carefully, waving his hands over the cookies, they were ridiculously large, which made him smile

“Wow, they look so good.” Dan stared at them. “Oh, there’s you!” He pointed at the largest cookie then at the one next to it. “And me…and um I think that one’s Masa-chan.” Dan smiled while looking up at Ohtori. “Which one are you going to eat first?”

"I guess I can eat Kaidoh-kun…" He blushed a little, shaking his head. Stupid webpages, stupid Niou… "Uhm…what about you?"

He looked and debated which one he wanted to eat. Dan looked at Ohtori again. “Can I eat you?” He asked innocently, which in other situations might sound a little strange. “I’m kinda afraid to eat Masa-chan.” He stood up on his toes and put a hand by his mouth. “I think there might be a monster that lives on top of his head.” Dan whispered as if the cookie might hear.

Smiling and nodding, he laughed. "You bet, I think to be safe, we'll leave Niou and the other unnamed cookies here for other people. You might be right about head-monsters anyway." Grinning, he took a small bite of the Kaidoh-cookie, handing the Ohtori-cookie to the smaller boy.

Dan grinned as he was handed the giant cookie. He held it with both hands since one would not be enough. Dan took a bite out of it and chewed wordlessly. Out of nowhere came a small squeak. “It is good! You make really good cookies!”

"Uhm- thank you..." He smiled back cheerily, finishing the cookie quickly and starting to clean the kitchen, it would be rude to leave a mess, not that it looked like anyone else used the kitchen.

Dan’s cookie took longer to finish. He was only about halfway done when Ohtori was finished with his. “I’ll help,” Dan offered, after all Ohtori shouldn’t have to clean all by himself. He had some trouble with the cookie in hand, but he was quick with eating. The cookie disappeared fast with Dan happily humming and eating at the same time.

Grinning, he looked at the now spotless kitchen. "Well, I guess I should go to my room, Kaidoh-kun seemed a little too worried about me, I hate to be a bother. Take as many of the cookies as you want, we should do this again soon."

“Thanks again for inviting me! Yeah, we should. It was lots of fun!” Dan, smiling, went back and grabbed the Dan and Niou cookies. With the two cookies in hand, he skipped over to the door. “I’m sure Masa-chan will love these! Bye, see you again sometime, Ohtori-senpai~”

"Bye, Dan-kun..." He smiled and shook his head again, cute kid, I hope things get a lot better for us all soon. With a small shrug, he grabbed the last chocolate chunk and popped it into his mouth before walking back to his room, smiling a little more than before.
