Summary: Kaidoh wakes up to a new set of bones - unlike any he's ever had before.

Note: Kaidoh had been sleeping in Aoi's room for a while, on and off, due to nightmares that may or may not be Jiroh's fault~. He was in medlab most of this past week, but was released last night, after he managed to retract the bones yesterday. Oishi may or may not have seen him, up to the mun~

Kaidoh was having a nightmare. It was dark - very dark - and he could hear all sorts of sounds, like water dripping, something... scraping. The noises grew louder, and he wanted to run away, but he couldn't - couldn't because he was lying on his stomach, tied to some sort of table, and much as he tried, he couldn't move, or even manage to catch one of the restraints on a bone and cut it.

Before he knew what had happened, a figure loomed over him - large, dark, and with something sharp and metal in its hands. It grinned, and grabbed one of his arms, and Kaidoh thrashed, crying out, trying anything so that it wouldn't cut him - he didn't want to be cut! But it was no use - the metal lowered, lowered, until it ground across the back of his hand, and Kaidoh jerked - it hurt - and tried to break free, tried to run away -

Suddenly he was awake - Kaidoh gasped, first in shock, second in pain, as he practically fell off from where he had been sleeping atop Ken-kun. His hands still hurt, but it had only been a dream...

Until he looked down, eyes adjusting to the dark of the night, and realized.... something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong - the bone on his knuckles had shed, and in its place were three sharp bone... claws, was the only way he could describe them, each at least 15 centimeters long, and they hurt, and there was blood everywhere -

Oh no - oh no, was Ken all right? Kaidoh couldn't tell, it was too dark - he scrabbled backwards, afraid to look, biting his lip at the sharp pains shooting up and down his forearms, across the backs of his hands, and prayed, begged, for Ken to move, or yawn, or something so he would know the other boy was all right –

Oh, Ken was doing SOMETHING. When the comfy, nice smelling weight suddenly shifted off of him, he woke up from his slumber, confused as to why he was awake in the first place, and why his shirt was wet. And what was that copper smell? It was like, like...

BLOOD.

Ken didn't feel any injuries on himself, which only worried him MORE. He shot up in bed, looking left and right and seeing blood soaking into the mattress, his shirt, and leading over to KAORU, who was biting his lip and looking so much in PAIN. His eyes shot open, shock waking him completely as he reached for his boyfriend, worry slicing through his heart like so many knives.

"K-kaoru!? Are you okay, what's going on, are we under attack!?!?!?!?"

"No!" Kaidoh scrambled backwards again - and fell off the edge of the bed, blinking dazedly - but he didn't want Ken-kun reaching over, he would cut himself -

The other looked all right - Kaidoh was very relieved at that, so relieved he practically felt faint - and that meant the blood must be his. He hoped it would clear up soon - he never bled for long, but he'd probably already ruined both of their clothes, and probably Ken-kun's sheets and mattress as well...

"S-stay over there," he choked out, exactly the opposite of what he wanted, but he didn't know what was going on and if he hurt Ken now, he'd never forgive himself. "I d- I don't know what's..." How could he explain? It still hurt, but he could handle that - the real question was, what was going on? Nothing like this had ever happened before.

Stay over there? Well, Ken wasn't about to listen to THAT. Kaoru needed HELP, not space, and from the frightened look in his eyes he wasn't being totally honest. Ken crawled forward and off the bed as well, grabbing hold of Kaoru's ankle quickly so he couldn't back away again, holding him with a gentle, unbreakable grip.

"KAORU!? What's wrong?! You're not going to make me ignore this!"

Ken swept his eyes over Kaoru's form, his legs were okay, no gashes on his chest or stomach, his face was uncut, his arms...

His ARMS.

"Wh-what are THOSE?"

Kaidoh flinched as Ken grabbed his ankle, but the grip was only firm - not painful. He wanted to pull away, but realized that Ken's power was strength, and he wasn't about to let Kaidoh go. So he stopped moving, but then Ken-kun finally saw what was wrong...

"I don't know," he said, dismally - nothing quite like this had never happened before, and he didn't know what could have caused it. "It's never happened like this before." His arms and knuckles were still on fire, but he thought he felt the bleeding slow. "I - I didn't hurt you, right?" He was pretty sure, now, but he had to be very sure. Ken was tough, but these looked sharp. Very, very sharp.

Ken shook his head, releasing Kaidoh's ankle, but keeping him pinned with a watery brown stare. He crawled up towards him, gently running his fingertips up the underside of his arms, bringing them into the moonlight filtering through the window to get a better look.

"Wow, they're just like WOLVERINE'S!!!"

Ken cleared his throat realizing that he was getting excited at an inappropriate time again.

"Ahem, umm, I mean that I'm fine! But this looks like it hurts! Are you gonna be okay? We should go to the hospital, huh? I can carry you!"

Kaidoh winced a little, but the pain was beginning to ebb, slowly. His arms still tingled uncomfortably, but at least it didn't feel like his knuckles were being scraped raw anymore. In the moonlight, he could see that he wasn't bleeding anymore either, though the places where the bone jutted out were scabbing over as the blood dried, as though that could somehow help.

He blinked at Ken's exclamation, though - "W-wolverine?" Wait - he'd heard of him, when Ken had been on one of his X-men tangents, seeing as how the other idolized the team of American mutants. But... wasn't he kind of violent, sometimes?

And what would he do if these didn't go away? Pull them out...? He gripped one and yanked, lightly, but pulled his hand away with a small gasp a second later. Oh no, they weren't coming out. And oh, yes they were sharp, he realized, eyeing the cut on his palm.

Ken kept talking, and Kaidoh forced his concentration back to his boyfriend. "I - I mean, it hurts, but... it's getting better. I think," Kaidoh admitted, though it certainly wasn't getting better very quickly. "I guess we should go... I can walk, though," he added, blushing, because he was sure Ken would enjoy carrying him just as much as he'd like being carried. But he could get there on his own, he was pretty sure. "A-are you... um, well, you don't have to come. It's the middle of the night..." Why did things like this always have to happen at such inconvenient times? Kaidoh had the worst luck sometimes.

Ken winced in sympathy when Kaidoh cut his palm on his own claws.

"Ack! And you always tell ME to be careful! It looks like I'll just have to escort you!"

Ken easily lifted Kaidoh off the ground, just about to keel over from worry, but calming himself by reminding himself that healing WAS one of Kaoru's powers, after all.

"And of course I have to come. I'm your boyfriend!"

Well, yeah, it was the most obvious thing in the world. Ken smiled and kissed Kaidoh in the forehead like he would a kid.

"Let's go get you taken care of! As AWESOME as those claws are, I don't like that they made you BLEED all over the place! Let's get you looked at now!"

"It-it'll stop," Kaidoh offered weakly, but Ken-kun had already picked him up and was on the way to the medlab. Well, at least they wouldn't have to wake anyone up - there was always someone on duty, even at night, for instances just like this. Kaidoh just wished that he didn't have instances like this...

It didn't take long to get there; the halls were dark and deserted, and Ken didn't appear to be bothered by Kaidoh's weight at all (he never did, and Kaidoh always had to admit that he was a bit impressed, considering he had almost an entire extra skeleton's worth of weight). There was indeed someone up in the medlab, reading a magazine, but they jumped to their feet when they arrived, obviously concerned with the blood soaked into both their clothes, even if it wasn't really that much. Blood always made it look like there was more than there really was.

Kaidoh flushed and tried to explain as the doctor on duty came over, frowning. "I-it... this just... happened," he said, offering up his hands, careful not to get too close to either Ken or the doctor with them. "I d-don't know...."

Ken hung out nearby as the doctor examined Kaidoh, anxiously shifting in his seat and bouncing his leg, earning more than a few gently annoyed looks from the physician. He just wanted to make sure Kaoru would be okay...

After discovering that Kaoru would be kept overnight for observation, Ken INSISTED on staying with him. An insistent Ken is a hard thing to refuse, and the doctor forbade him from sharing the medical bed like he wanted to, but allowed him to stay in the chair next to the bed. Satisfied with this, Ken fetched his pillow and blanket that wasn't covered in blood and got as comfortable as he could.

"I wonder how it happened?"

Ken marveled, running his fingers over the rounded back of the claws, where they weren't sharp enough to really hurt him.

"Maybe it's something with all regenerating mutants? I mean, Wolverine and now you? It's COOL! But, I mean, I'm sorry it hurt so much and all... It must have been scary, huh?"

He let his hand rest gently on Kaidoh's wrist, offering his support.

Kaidoh was very much dismayed to hear that the doctor didn't have any idea what was going on, any more than he did. His best guess had been something akin to what happened last time - adrenaline-induced growth, but it had never been like this, before. This was the first time something had grown that... well, wasn’t an extension of a normal human skeleton. Though Kaidoh knew he was already far from a normal human.

Ken-kun refused to leave, though - and though the doctor looked a bit pained, Kaidoh... was actually really glad he wanted to stay. Medlab wasn't a fun place to stay, overnight or for any length of time, really, and it was nice to have the company.

"I... I dunno," Kaidoh said, in answer to Ken's question. "I just... it's never happened like this before. It doesn't hurt as much now, but I hope - I mean, I hope they go away..." It was pretty obvious they weren't going anywhere for the moment, but... but what if they stayed? How could he be close to anyone with these in the way, on top of anything else? "But... thanks for staying," he added, with a small smile. It meant a lot.

Ken let his fingers trail over the shining ivory claws extending from his boyfriend's strong hands, frowning at them for causing him so much pain and trouble. Despite how cool they were, that just wasn't acceptable.

"Yeah. It would be nice if you could retract them like Wolverine! That must be convenient! Mou, I don't like the idea of it hurting whenever you do it, though..."

Ken bent to kiss the backs of those hands, hoping he was doing at least a little good being there...

"Retract...?" Kaidoh blinked. He wasn't sure if he could do that - he'd never done it before, though he couldn't really say he'd ever tried... Maybe it would work. But he was much too worn out to do it right now - the adrenaline rush he'd been feeling ever since he'd woken up like this was fading, and fast. It was still the middle of the night. And even if he couldn't go to class tomorrow, Ken would still have to.

He blushed as lips touched the backs of his hands, lightly, but really, truly, he was glad not to be alone. He shuffled awkwardly down the bed a little so he could kiss Ken's cheek without having to pull him close, and risk hurting him. "It's, um, late," he said quietly, resting his forehead against the other's cheek for just a moment. "W-we should try to go back to sleep..."

Ken was really pretty pumped up still, and not in the mood to go to bed yet, but he had to TRY at least and be useful for school the next day.

"Yeah, I guess so. G'night!"

He kissed Kaidoh on the cheek and got comfortable on the side of the bed, his weight causing it to creak dangerously before stabilizing, but he got his head in a position where it was on the pillow near Kaidoh's shoulder, so he was happy enough.

"No nightmares?"

Kaidoh repressed a tiny smile of amusement as the bed shifted under Ken's weight, but it steadied after a moment. He laid down, closing his eyes and hoping sleep would come quickly. Maybe the morning would be more promising than this disaster of a night.

"No, I really hope not."

It's hard to be panicked when your boyfriend is a walking brick wall. XD Who's a big cuddly puppy on top of it.
