When: Wednesday the 23rd. [Pre-posted since I'm not sure when I'll have time]
Summary: Kenta, the mutant little brother of Bunta, goes out on a date with his long-time boyfriend human Kaede. But things go horribly, horribly wrong.
Warnings: Sadness & Death
"I'm sorry I'm late! Work held me up..." Kaede rushed to where Kenta was tapping his foot impatiently. "Sorry! Hang on a sec..." Kaede doubled over, catching his breath. "My bike's in the shop. I had to run over...."
Kaede straightened and reached over to cup the back of Kenta's head, pulling his face closer and touching their forehead's together. "I know I saw you a couple of days ago...but I missed you." He said, affectionately.
It was just like Kaede to be late on one of their free days alone together, so Kenta figured he should have been used to it. And he couldn’t resist those fingers in his hair and he just smiled, all impatience melting away. "It's okay. Don’t kill yourself or something--you're not that late anyways."
Pressing closer, he brushed his lips across Kae's with a happy sigh, not really caring they were out in public. "I missed you too... a lot."
"You're just saying that to make me feel better." Kaede teased, kissing Kenta again. "How's school? Are they being tough on you again?"
"Eh, the usual." Kenta slipped his fingers into Kaede's, nuzzling against his shoulder. "I'm regretting taking two honors classes since they both like to give me more work than I can handle... all at once. Such a pain. What about you?"
"Work, play... fooling around." Kaede joked, pulling Kenta into a hug and opening his mind to his boyfriend, burying his face into the mop of hair. "You sound busy~"
"I am but not too bad...” Kenta mumbled, eyes sliding shut. He could feel Kaede's walls dropping and it was so tempting to just go and explore, see what he could experience this time. But it was too tempting, which could become dangerous if he didn’t hold back. "You staying out of trouble?"
"Can't you tell?" Kaede grinned and ran a hand through his hair. "As best as I can, you know. I try not to beat to many kids up for their lunch money." He tugged Kenta's hand, curling his fingers through them. "Let's walk. You can tell me what happens at school while we do."
Squeezing his hand, Kenta shook his head with a laugh. "As long as you pick on the nasty ones, it’s good, right?" He stayed close to Kaede's side, looking around at the things on the street as they walked. He didn’t get to go out into the city that much. "Not much to say. I've just got this project for the final. I've been thinking about schools for next year...”
"When are you moving in with me?" Kaede said, half-joking. "You know I can't wait until I have you all to myself."
"Next month?" Kenta glanced at him with a little, almost nervous grin. "I mean, I did talk to my parents about it and they didn’t really like the idea of everyone moving out, but it’s getting unbearable to be the only one at home. And if I end up going to nii-chan's school, then I don’t think they'll want me at home anyways, right?"
"It's entirely up to you." Kaede tilted his head toward an ice-cream stand and dragged Kenta to it, ordering two cones of whatever flavor each of them wanted. "I'm glad I get to see you, now and then..."
"I want to." Kenta frowned, determined. He didn’t want to bother Kaede or become a nuisance, but wouldn’t it be better this way? "Now and then isn’t enough...”
"It would be great. And the look on your face tells me you think you're going to be a bother...well, you aren't. You're only person in the world I want bothering me." Kaede laughed and caught some ice-cream before it dripped on his collar. "Oh...jeez.....are you worried about something? Or something?" He raised concerned eyebrows.
Kenta shook his head, hurrying to lick the dripping ice cream off the cone and his hand before frowning slightly. He was worried, just a little. "Fuji-senpai is worried about nii-chan and wants me to see how he's doing. But I don’t really know what to do--I mean, he's Bunta. When is he not random and stuff? But now I'm worried...”
"Ah him. Too true. But I trust you'll figure it out in the end." Kaede slung an arm around Kenta's shoulders. "You'll be fine, I know it......hey, excuse me."
Kaede turned a little to see the man walking hurriedly slouched over. "Watch where you're..." Kaede patted his pockets. "Hey! He took my wallet!" Kaede broke into a run, leaving Kenta behind and the man looked behind him and started to make a break for it.
"Shit... Kaede!" Kenta took off after, clutching his jacket close around his chest. "Kaede, be careful!!"
Kaede chased the man into an alley. "Hey....give me back my wallet or I'm going to be yelling my head off for police...after I kick your ass!" He held his hand out. The man looked at him and laughed, pulling a knife out of his pocket. "What are you going to do about it dumb kid." He looked up when Kenta appeared.
Kaede frowned. "Kenta, get out of here. I'
I'll deal with this."
"Kaede. Leave it.” Kenta stared at the knife, eyes wide. He reached unsteadily for Kaede's arm, breathing shallow. He tried to think of things he could do--maybe he could do something to the man, make him leave, but he couldn’t concentrate. "I can... try... Kaede just...”
Kaede held his arm out in front of Kenta's body, blocking him from view. "No. I don't want you getting hurt. You better run. Now."
The man whistled between his teeth and another man appeared. "These brats won't let their wallet alone with us." He told his friend, golden teeth gleaming. "We better shut them up before the short one starts screaming like a girl."
"Kaede, don’t be stupid...” Kenta grumbled through grit teeth, trying to sound confident but he it wasn’t as though he was any more effective at the moment. What good was being able to reach into someone’s mind if he couldn’t get past his own shields? "Let's just go... c'mon."
"No...Are you kidding? I'll be broke the rest of the week without that money." Kaede was stubborn and he took a step towards the man. "Why don't you go get a fucking job, huh? Put down the knife and toss the wallet at me."
"Or you could both keep quiet and try not to make too much of a mess after I bleed you to death!" The man practically shrieked at him. "Damn fags!" He tried to swipe the knife at Kaede and missed, while Kaede scrambled back and made sure Kenta was out of the way.
"Kenta.." Kaede said through gritted teeth. "I swear if you don't get out now, I'm going to throw you out of this alley!"
Kenta stumbled backwards, reaching for Kaede's arm desperately. He couldn’t break through, nothing was working--his own fear was holding back anything he could do to help. He wasn’t nearly as strong as Kaede, but that wasn’t going to do anything. "Kaede, I'll give you money just..."
"NO. What the fuck are you talking about? No one's giving anyone money. I'm going to keep what I earn and teach these two idiots a little about the economy. It only supports consumers with income, scum!" He yanked his arm from Kenta's grip. "Ken, if you're not going to help, I want you to get out of here so you don't get hurt. Or watch when I beat these two into a bloody pulp." Kaede cracked his knuckles and started towards them.
Without thinking, Kenta dashed forward, passing Kaede and stopping a few feet from the men, jaw set. Maybe if he could just get rid of them, Kaede wouldn’t do anything reckless. "Drop the wallet or I'll kill you." He struggled to keep his voice steady, trying to calm his breathing so he could actually do something. "Obviously you don’t know who you're dealing with." He wished his powers manifested themselves more visibly, but he was going to have to make it work. "I'm not normal."
The man dropped his knife and choked a little, his eyes rolling into the back of his head.
"Mutants!" He choked out and fell on his side.
"Mutant!" His partner sprang to one side and yanked a gun out of his pants. "Fucking mutants!" He pointed the gun at Kenta's face and aimed.
"No. You don't want to do that!" Kaede yelled. "I'm the mutant; I'm the one being threatened here!" He shouted.
"I'm not that stupid!" The man aimed and fired. "Die, mutant!" Kaede moved fast, pushing Kenta away and getting hit on the side. He groaned and slumped to the ground.
This wasn’t happening. One moment he had groped blindly for one of their minds, the next there was a gun and suddenly... "Kae..?"
Pushing himself off the wall where Kaede had thrown him, Kenta staggered forward, falling to his knees, staring at a small pool of blood. "Kae..?"
Kaede gritted his teeth, sweat rolling down his face. "Kenta, don't be an idiot. Please...get out of here. I don't want you hurt too..." He pleaded weakly.
"You... stupid..." His trembling hands found their way to Kaede's face and he shook his head slowly. "I'm right here... by your side... Why didn’t you just leave, Kaede...? Now look... “Kenta couldn’t look, couldn’t see how much blood he was losing, even when it stained his jeans.
"I was trying to look good in front of you..." Kaede grinned weakly and coughed hard, blood seeping from the side of his mouth.
The man staggered towards his friend and tried to drag him out. "You see what happens to dumb kids-- dumb mutants who wanna mess with real men? REAL PEOPLE??? I ought to kill you both now!" He yelled, trying to stick his gun out and support his friend at the same time.
"Shut up!!" Kenta snapped, lifting his eyes to glare at the man, tears welling up in his eyes as the thief’s jaw clamped shut. Kenta watched as he staggered off a bit more, fearfully dragging his friend and pawing at his own mouth.
Blinking, Kenta looked down quickly, gasping softly as his fingers touched blood. "Kaede... please don’t leave me... please don’t." He could barely speak, lips trembling as he leaned to press his forehead against Kaede's. "Hold on...."
Kaede smiled weakly and reached up to hold Kenta's face. "I'm...I'm sorry..." He said, breathing hard.
"Don't... Kae...” His shields were gone and he reached, clinging to anything he could hold onto in Kaede's mind, just as he clutched at his shoulders. "I love you...”
Kaede's smile was fading fast and he couldn't say it, he wished Kenta could feel that he was loved too, more then anything in the world. "It's cold..." He whispered, blood staining his teeth.
"I'm so sorry...” Kenta sobbed softly, pulling himself closer, tighter to Kaede's body as if he could warm him. He could feel him slipping away, his body weaker and the mind--the soul?--he was desperately clinging to sliding away. "God no, Kaede...."
"It's never your fault..." Kaede managed to say even though the blood rising to his throat was choking him.
And then he was gone, lifeless eyes staring straight ahead even though his fingers were still tangled in Kenta's hair.
Kenta held on, not moving, breathing against Kaede's cold cheek. He didn’t move for what seemed like forever, not even when he started shivering. It was only until his teeth chattered that he jolted back to awareness, tearing away from the Kaede's body and scrambling backwards. Kenta stared at the lifeless form on the ground, the blood on his hands, but his mind wasn’t clear--It didn’t make any sense.
He tried to turn away, but couldn’t, not with Kaede lying there so helplessly. He tried to move forward again, to help somehow, but his legs wouldn’t move. And then he heard a whisper, something moving through his head so familiar, and yet so foreign. He reached for Kaede's hand, and blacked out.
Kenta's whereabouts as well as the repercussions of this log to come sometime later.
