Summary: Ohtori takes An somewhere she can let go of her powers and calm down without hurting people.
Kissing Kaidoh goodbye, Ohtori smiled a final time and tightened the waist tie on his bright yellow raincoat from home and tugging on the oversized fishing hat. Offering his reassuring smile that everything was going to be okay, he grabbed his room key and headed out into the rainy halls, silently amused at the fact that only a few short months ago this would have seemed abnormal, even frightening to him. At least there hadn't been much thunder so far, he was very glad about that. Wandering first to the student life offices, he signed himself out for afternoon exercises and hurried to the gates, awaiting the girl responsible for the strange weather, and hoping to reassure her somewhat. By his look alone, he was sure she would probably get a good giggle. After all, who wouldn't laugh at a 6 foot tall, soaking wet rubber clad battery in oversized rainboots that made him stumble when he walked.
Scowling darkly at her computer, An slammed it closed and headed out to meet Ohtori. She didn't bother grabbing anything on her way out, no jacket, no shoes, not even the sunglasses she had taken to wearing almost constantly. Even if she had needed to take those things she wouldn't have remembered anyway, the mood she was in. Anyone who was out in this weather could just deal with her abnormal eyes. Absently she was glad that Sakuno wasn't around right now, having a fit of temper in front of her girlfriend probably wasn't the best idea.
After going through the hassle of signing herself out, neither knowing nor caring what excuse she gave to escape, and ignoring the strange looks she was getting from the staff, she headed towards the gates. Only to stop short a few feet away. Either her eyes were really playing tricks on her, or there was a giant yellow something stood there. Presumably it was Ohtori-kun, but really, why was he wearing such a ridiculous getup? Walking the short distance to him, she tilted her head to one side and asked with a curious smile, "Is there a reason you're wearing that, or are you just trying to cheer me up?"
Smiling as the girl approached, he tipped his hat and grinned. He had read up in the journal about her eyes, so that was no disturbance at all, after all his best friend was a giant chicken and his lover looked a bit like a porcupine. Blushing at her commentary on his outfit, he shrugged. "My Mom gave it to me when I came here. Might as well put it to good use." Not to mention it was best if he tried to at least stay half dry and warm. He was a nightmare with a cold, literally blowing up electronics up to 10 yards away every time he sneezed. Little power surges in a school could be potentially dangerous. "But if it cheers you up, it's a double bonus, eh?"
Good use? Why would they... oh, yeah. Most people were bothered by this kind of weather. Where she revelled in the wind and rain lashing against her bare arms and whipping her hair around others didn't. Which was a pity really, feeling that sort of power running through you was always exhilarating. And not so frightening anymore, though that should probably frighten her just as much. Being out here had already... not calmed her temper, as such, but changed it. It wasn't anger that was driving her to let loose her powers anymore, but the thrill that loss of control would bring.
"Yeah, it looks... cute." And so wasn't the point of being out here. Bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet she grinned up at Ohtori, the expression anticipatory, and more than a little dangerous. "So where's this field anyway?"
Blinking at the soaked form beside him, he offered his jacket, manners his mother taught him. He comment making him blush just a little, he'd never considered himself cute. He smiled faintly, the blush still staining his cheeks and lead the way over a few hills and across the edge of town to a small viney baseball field that had been deserted for an obviously long period of time. Blinking around, he spotted a few white feathers blowing in the wind, and the reflections of broken glass spread all over the lawn. It was mostly his and Shishido's place, but under the circumstances decided it was more than acceptable for An to release her control a while and calm down. Finding a spot to sit on the pitcher's mound he grinned. "Have at."
Waving off Ohtori's offer of the jacket (why would she need it in the first place?) with a laugh An half-skipped after him. It was amazing what being outside in such wild weather did for her mood. Or maybe it was just being away from anywhere she might run into Tomoka. Either way, An was finally happy now. Not that she wouldn't let loose with her powers, still. Barely noticing her surroundings as they came to a halt, and only half-hearing Ohtori, she closed her eyes, spread her arms and just let go.
He hadn't expected her to literally fire off like that the moment they settled into the field. Wincing slightly at the growling thunder and wild purple streaks of lightening highlighting the cloudy skies, he stares as it started to first rain wildly, then snow, for a moment a reprieve and then something like a sudden frost. Curling up against the biting winds, he waited for her to get whatever she needed to out. Even if he wanted to go hide under his blankets with Kaidoh and wait out this storm.
An was laughing, or maybe she was crying, or even screaming. She couldn't tell anymore, but she was making some sort of sound, hearing it mix with the howling of the winds and the crashing of thunder as every emotion was swept away. She neither knew nor cared what was happening with the weather at that moment, and why should she? With so much raw power flowing through her, with the fury of nature in her very veins, what did petty concerns like what happened to everyone else matter?
It was this realisation that snapped An back to reality. Of course other people mattered, like Ohtori who was right there with her. And oh god, what if she'd done something to hurt him? No matter how good it felt to let go like that, she would never forgive herself if she had.
Dropping to her knees she bowed her head, trying to catch her breath after that, the storm abating as suddenly as it had appeared, before looking at Ohtori. "Is... are you ok?"
He heard his name over the shrieking winds and looked up from under his yellow rain hat, and offered a small nod and thumbs up. Granted he was being pelted by some pretty good sized hail at the time, he even smiled. At least she was probably feeling a lot better, he maybe envied her a little at being able to just go completely nuts like that, it was against his nature.
As the storm let up, and the rain/snow/hail began to slow and eventually stop, he tugged the hat off and shook his head. He would have to try and figure out why his hair had still managed to get soaked beneath his rain gear. "I'm fine, are you feeling a bit better?" He was concerned about her still ragged breathing, but at least she looked calmer.
Offering Ohtori a slightly manic grin, An nodded, "Much better thanks. I should do this more often." Even if a small part of her was protesting against that, telling her she would end up hurting people that way. Getting her breathing under control, she climbed somewhat shakily to her feet. "Thanks for letting me do that Ohtori-kun. Should we get back though? I don't want 'Kuno to worry."
"Y-yeah, it might be a healthy outlet…and you can come here and do it. Usually I just lurk here when I don't want to be cooped up." He spotted her shaken balance and moved over to her side as quickly as the tarp he was wearing allowed him. "Do you need a hand or shoulder to lean on? We wouldn't want Sakuno-chan to worry too much, ne?"
"Thanks. And yeah, I think I might." Leaning gratefully against the boy she let him support her for a few minutes before pulling away slightly, leaving enough contact between them that she wouldn't fall. "No, or Kaidoh-kun, either."
Making sure she was alright, he was glad to see the campus had dried out a little. Weather for moods, she must be feeling better. Shifting slightly, he pulled out his cellphone and studied the time. "We'll be back in time to gather them before dinner."
